Abstract

Hyperglycemia is characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels exceeding 200 mg/dL, an initial symptom of diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycemia can be addressed through traditional treatment with Red Betel Leaf. Red betel leaf contains phytochemical compounds, including flavonoids. Flavonoid compounds in red betel leaves possess antioxidant properties. These antioxidants can scavenge hydroxyl radicals that damage the β cells of the pancreas, thereby maximizing insulin production. Empirically, the flavonoid content in red betel leaves has been shown to lower blood glucose levels and cure diabetes mellitus. An effectiveness test of the anti-hyperglycemic properties of the ethanol extract fraction of red betel leaf was conducted. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of the ethanol extract fraction of red betel leaf on male white rats. The method employed in this study was laboratory experimentation. Fifteen rats were divided into five treatment groups: Group I, healthy control without treatment; Group II, negative control with Na.CMC administration; Group III, positive control with glibenclamide administration; Group IV, the polar group with polar extract suspension of red betel leaf administration; Group V, the nonpolar group with nonpolar extract suspension of red betel leaf administration. In conclusion, administering the polar fraction was more effective in reducing blood glucose levels than the nonpolar fraction.

Abstract

Effective communication of medical staff in gynaecology and obstetrics, in relation between the doctor and the patient, is essential and of particular importance. Communication helps patients to have trust in the healthcare services provided by the medical staff and can impact the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment. Medical personnel should be careful and sensitive to the patient's needs, understand their problems, and have good communication and information-sharing skills. An informed patient is more likely to understand the diagnosis and treatment, which can enhance cooperation with the doctor. Quick and successful contact by medical personnel can help reduce patient anxiety and stress, affecting the achievement of treatment goals. In gynaecology and obstetrics, effective communication between the doctor, resulting in effective treatment and care, is crucial for the mother and her fetus. The communication between the doctor and the pregnant woman has a close emotional connection, considering the specific condition of pregnant women.

Abstract

Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the global prevalence of reproductive tract infections among teenagers ranged from 35% to 42% in 2012. In the specific context of Indonesia, statistics reveal that out of the country's 69.4 million adolescents, a staggering 63 million exhibited concerning hygiene behaviours. Additionally, it was noted that up to 5.2 million young women frequently experienced discomfort during menstruation due to inadequate hygiene practices. This research aims to provide insights into the knowledge and practices of menstrual hygiene among adolescents at a public high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach and was conducted as a cross-sectional investigation. The results revealed that most respondents exhibited a high level of readiness and knowledge, with 91.6% categorised as having good knowledge, while 8.3% demonstrated sufficient ability. Notably, none of the participants fell into the category of inadequate knowledge. Regarding preparation for menstruation, 44 respondents were well-prepared, whereas four respondents exhibited sufficient preparation. These findings shed light on the importance of promoting menstrual hygiene education and practices among adolescents in Indonesia to improve overall reproductive health and well-being.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period that usually occurs and experiences life upheaval caused by various physical, psychological and social changes. One of the main problems teenagers face, especially female adolescents, is their weight and appearance. The study aims to determine the correlation between dietary behaviour and self-esteem in adolescents. This study employed a quantitative methodology with a correlation approach. The respondents in this study were female adolescents in Yogyakarta who were overweight and desired to lose weight. The number of respondents was 105 people. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The data collection used scale filling, while the data analysis used Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results revealed that 26 female adolescents had a high level of self-esteem with a percentage of 25%, 79 female adolescents had a moderate level of self-esteem with a percentage of 75%, and no female adolescents had a high level of self-esteem. There is a significant correlation between self-esteem and dietary behaviour in female adolescents in Yogyakarta, with a correlation coefficient of 0.400 with a positive direction. Thus, it can be assumed that the higher the self-esteem, the higher the dietary behaviour of female adolescents in Yogyakarta. Likewise, the lower the level of self-esteem, the lower the dietary behaviour of female adolescents in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Leukorrhea, a common health concern among women, has been the subject of this research, which sought to identify the underlying predisposing factors contributing to its occurrence. A sample of 90 students from the Health Vocational Study Program at Bengkulu University was purposively selected through an observational approach. The research examined several independent variables, including Knowledge, Personal Hygiene, and Stress, while focusing on leukorrhea as the dependent variable. Employing the Chi-Square test and regression analysis, the findings revealed a lack of significant association between knowledge and leukorrhea. In contrast, a substantial relationship was established between personal hygiene behavior and stress about leukorrhea. Multivariate analysis indicated that individual hygiene behavior emerged as the most influential factor affecting leukorrhea. This study highlights the significant impact of personal hygiene behavior and stress on the occurrence of leukorrhea among students at Bengkulu University. Furthermore, it underscores the critical role of private hygiene practices in managing and preventing leukorrhea.

Abstract

Nutrition is a critical issue in any country as it can impact the growth and development of children. To ensure that children have a balanced diet, education on nutrition should begin at a young age, ideally when they enter school. With good nutrition knowledge, children are more likely to have a healthy body proportionate to their age. The research used a cross-sectional approach with a correlation method, and the total population was 220 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and 96 students were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection was through a questionnaire, which was then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, including chi-square statistical tests. The study found a relationship between the level of nutrition knowledge and Body Mass Index in SIKL students, with a p-value of 0.000 < α 0.05. To improve the level of knowledge of primary school children, it is highly recommended to provide education on balanced nutrition.
