Abstract

The International Collaborative Community Service Program, conducted by the Forestry Study Program of the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Sciences in collaboration with the University of Technology of Mara, Malaysia, aims to: Provide training on utilizing sengon/jabon wood waste (harvested) by converting it into wood pellets as a renewable energy source; and Increase the economic value of community forests by improving the quality of primary wood and creating value-added products from waste. This community service activity is implemented through outreach and practical training on making wood pellets from sengon/jabon waste, introducing the potential of wood waste as a renewable energy source. Techniques for collecting, drying, and shredding wood waste, as well as the process of molding the shredded waste into pellets, are also covered. After this activity, community forest farmer groups can utilize and convert previously unused waste from sengon and jabon felling into wood pellet products. Environmental benefits include more sustainable forest management and reduced wood waste, which can otherwise pollute the environment. The expected benefits for the partner (UiTM) include applying existing knowledge and technology in the context of international community service and strengthening collaborative networks.

Abstract

This article examines religious moderation (wasatiyyah) within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia through a phenomenological analytical framework. Using qualitative research methodology, this study explores the lived experiences, socio-cultural practices, and engagement with classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) that constitute religious moderation in pesantren environments. Drawing from in-depth interviews with 45 participants including pesantren leaders, educators (ustadz), and santri (students) across six pesantren institutions in East Java and Southeast Sulawesi, the research identifies three interconnected dimensions of religious moderation: theological foundations grounded in Qur'anic principles of wasatiyyah, socio-cultural practices manifesting tolerance and intercultural harmony, and pedagogical methods integrating classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary concerns. The findings demonstrate that religious moderation in pesantren operates as a comprehensive framework encompassing spiritual discipline, social ethics, and intellectual engagement, functioning simultaneously as a theological orientation, institutional practice, and educational outcome. The research contributes to contemporary discourse on Islamic education by providing evidence-based analysis of how traditional Islamic institutions operationalize moderation in pluralistic contexts, with implications for understanding pesantren's role in promoting social cohesion within Indonesia's diverse society.

Abstract

Introduction: Strengthening financial literacy among multicultural youth, particularly those without access to formal schooling due to undocumented status, remains an important educational priority. This community engagement program aimed to introduce basic accounting and financial management concepts to children and teenagers at Angkatan Belia Islam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, using the Monopoly board game as an engaging learning medium. Methods: The activity involved 28 participants from diverse family backgrounds and nationalities. Conducted on 15 May 2025 at the PERMAI Learning Centre, the program applied a game-based learning approach combined with guided instruction, participatory observation, and short evaluation sheets to assess understanding. Key financial concepts presented included income, expenses, budgeting, cash flow, risk, and simple transaction recording. Results: The use of Monopoly effectively enhanced students’ engagement and comprehension. Participants demonstrated improved ability to recognize types of income and expenses, make basic financial decisions, and relate game scenarios to real-life money management. The activity also fostered collaborative skills such as teamwork, negotiation, and communication. Discussion: Participatory reflection showed that students perceived accounting and financial topics as more enjoyable and accessible when presented through interactive gameplay. Short-term impacts included increased confidence in handling money and a willingness to apply basic budgeting practices in their daily lives. Conclusion: The Monopoly and Accounting program successfully promoted foundational financial literacy among underserved multicultural youth in Malaysia. This model demonstrates a replicable approach to delivering meaningful financial education in community-based, non-formal learning environments.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance the financial literacy of migrant youth by introducing basic financial education and the application of accounting in daily life. The activity was conducted with 32 participants from Angkatan Belia Islam, Pulau Penang, Malaysia, and facilitated by a team of lecturers from Universitas Negeri Makassar, Atma Jaya University Makassar, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. The method included pretest, material presentation, interactive discussion, posttest, and feedback sessions. Results of the pretest showed that the average participants’ understanding was below 60%, indicating limited knowledge of fundamental financial concepts such as distinguishing between needs and wants, recording expenses, and planning simple budgets. After the material presentation and discussion, posttest results demonstrated a significant increase in understanding across all indicators, with average scores exceeding 80%. The improvement reflects the effectiveness of the interactive and contextual teaching approach, particularly the use of relatable illustrations and ice-breaking games. The program not only improved participants’ financial literacy but also encouraged the application of accounting principles in their daily decision-making. These findings suggest that practical and participatory financial education initiatives are essential in empowering migrant youth to manage personal finances effectively and build financial independence.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the process and outcomes of community empowerment at the Sanggar Batik Selaras Pinang Masak in Jambi through the development of a creative economy underpinned by Islamic values. This batik center represents a crucial hub for the preservation of local culture and economy, yet it faces significant challenges concerning product innovation, digital marketing, and the consistent application of Sharia business ethics. The methodology employed is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which actively involved the participation of artisans and management in every stage: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The action phase encompassed digital marketing training, a workshop on Islamic business ethics, and mentorship for the formulation of Sharia-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The results demonstrate a significant increase in the understanding and proficiency of digital marketing, alongside a stronger commitment to implementing Islamic principles such as honesty (shiddiq), trustworthiness and professionalism (amanah), and justice (‘adl) in all transactions and production processes. This empowerment initiative not only enhances the potential for the center's sustainable economic self-reliance but also reinforces the cultural and spiritual identity of the artisan community.

Abstract

Environmental activists, as leading activists in fighting for the right to a healthy and conducive environment, have faced criminalization efforts when fighting for environmental recovery due to the damage that has occurred. Environmental damage is caused by the mining sector which is the most dominant. Therefore, the integration of an ecologically just justice system will be realized by revitalizing Prosecutors and Judges in the Anti-Eco-SLAPP justice system. The role of Prosecutors will be in line with Justice for the Environment (JUST-E) because Prosecutors not only prioritize the legal-formal aspect, but also ensure that legal instruments are not used to silence environmental activists as environmental critics. Therefore, Prosecutors play a strategic role as supervisors and catalysts of ecological justice. JUST-E as a means of revitalizing the role of Prosecutors in handling Eco-SLAPP cases and judges implement preventive measures through interlocutory decisions and judge's decisions that implement the Anti-Eco-SLAPP mechanism.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a health problem that can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as impaired fetal development. One non-pharmacological method to increase hemoglobin (Hb) levels is to consume natural ingredients rich in iron and vitamin C, such as tamarillo fruit. Objective: This study aims to determine the benefits of consuming tamarillo fruit on increasing hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in the second trimester at the Hanna Kasih Clinic in Medan in 2025. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach . The study sample consisted of 15 pregnant women in their second trimester who met the inclusion criteria. Respondents were given 200 ml of tamarillo juice per day for 30 days. Hb levels were measured before and after the intervention using a digital hemoglobinometer. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to determine the difference in mean Hb levels before and after treatment. Results: The results of the Community Activity Implementation showed an increase in Hb levels from 10.2 g/dl to 11-11.8 g/dl after administering tamarillo juice. Statistical tests showed a p -value <0.05, which means there was a significant difference between Hb levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: Consuming tamarillo juice significantly increases hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in the second trimester. The iron, vitamin C, and antioxidants in tamarillo play a role in aiding iron absorption and hemoglobin formation. Tamarillo fruit can be a natural alternative to prevent anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

Background: In tropical regions, women of reproductive age face a double health burden from obstetric risks and endemic infectious diseases. However, population-based data quantifying the interaction between tropical infections and reproductive health outcomes in Indonesia are scarce, hindering the development of effective interventions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the association between malaria and soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections with adverse reproductive health outcomes among women aged 15-49 in North Sumatra. Methods: A population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 1,420 women selected via stratified random sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews and biological sample analysis. Multivariate logistic regression was used to measure associations after controlling for confounding variables. Results: The overall prevalence of at least one tropical infection was 28.2%. Malaria infection was independently and significantly associated with an increased risk of anemia (Adjusted Odds Ratio [aOR] = 3.15; 95% CI: 2.20–4.51) and a history of preterm birth (aOR = 1.89; 95% CI: 1.15–3.10). STH infection was also a strong predictor of anemia (aOR = 2.10; 95% CI: 1.60–2.75). Implications: These findings provide robust evidence supporting the need to integrate infectious disease control programs into maternal and child health services. Active screening for malaria and STH should be a standard component of antenatal care in endemic areas to mitigate adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Abstract

Strengthening brand identity is a key strategy to enhance SME competitiveness, particularly for New Entrepreneurs (WUB) at the early stages of business development. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of WUB members of the Bunda Sejahtera Cooperative, Depok, in creating innovative products, designing effective and informative labeling, and developing market-oriented packaging. The implementation method included interactive lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice in producing a “Café-style Herbal Drink” based on traditional herbs, complemented with modern label and packaging design training. Twenty participants joined the program, dominated by the culinary sector (50%), with capital under Rp 10 million (55%), monthly turnover below Rp 5 million (75%), and social media use limited mainly to WhatsApp (100%). Evaluation was conducted through validity and reliability tests of the questionnaire (SPSS 23) and frequency distribution analysis. All indicators were valid (r > 0.444; p < 0.05) and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.709–0.797). The average understanding level reached 85%, categorized as “Highly Understand” for Brand Identity, Innovative Products, and Packaging (86%), and “Understand” for Labeling (80%). Practical implementation of innovative product creation reached 86%, surpassing the 65% target. The program resulted in improved knowledge, skills, product health quality, and potential income for partners. This initiative aligns with SDGs 1, 3, 8, 9, 12, and 17, and supports higher education KPI 5. The results show that training integrating theory and practice effectively enhances SME/WUB branding capacity sustainably.
