Abstract

Background: The rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes mellitus, poses a significant public health challenge in Bengkulu City, especially in Lempuing and Nusa Indah subdistricts. Community empowerment is a strategic approach to strengthen promotive and preventive health efforts. The utilization of Tanaman Obat Keluarga (TOGA) was introduced as an innovative, culturally appropriate, and practical method aligned with Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (GERMAS).Aims: This program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of community health volunteers in preventing and managing NCDs, establish TOGA demonstration gardens managed by volunteers, and develop a replicable community empowerment model. Methods: A participatory approach was applied through cross-sectoral coordination with primary health centers and local government. Educational modules and media were developed, followed by training sessions for community health volunteers using lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. Continuous mentoring supported the management of TOGA gardens. Program evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test to assess changes in volunteers’ knowledge and observations to monitor implementation. Results: The program was successfully implemented. Educational modules were developed, and training activities led to an average increase of 30% in volunteers’ knowledge scores. Two TOGA demonstration gardens were established and actively managed by volunteers. Educational media were utilized during Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (posyandu) services by community health centers and Pemberdayaan Kesehatan Keluarga (PKK) activities at Lempuing and Nusa Indah subdistricts. Conclusion: The program effectively improved the capacity of community health volunteers and promoted community participation in family-based NCD prevention and management. The TOGA-based empowerment model demonstrates strong potential for replication as a promotive and preventive strategy for NCD control.

Abstract

Background: Central Buton Regency has significant coastal and marine potential to support the development of lobster aquaculture using floating net cages (KJA). Favorable oceanographic conditions and available coastal space provides strong opportunities for expanding this high-value fisheries sector. However, large-scale development faces sustainability challenges, particularly related to feed supply and ecosystem management.Aims: This paper aims to assess the feasibility and development direction of lobster aquaculture in Central Buton Regency. The scope covers environmental suitability, initial production conditions, planned expansion to 500 floating net cages, and sustainable feed management strategies based on local resources. Methods: Field surveys were conducted on 12–14 December 2025 to observe farming locations and engage with lobster farmers. This was followed by a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on 15 December 2025 involving village leaders, farmers, relevant stakeholders, and three invited experts to discuss the industry ecosystems, local farming techniques, and integrated feed management. Results: The results indicate that current feed demand can still be met using natural feed sources such as trash fish and shellfish. However, under the projected expansion to 500 floating net cages, daily feed requirements are estimated at approximately 5.5 tons for wet feed or 1.5 tons for pellet feed. Conclusion: Lobster aquaculture development in Central Buton Regency is technically feasible but requires integrated feed management planning. The development of shellfish farming and locally produced pellet feed is essential to ensure sustainability, reduce dependence on wild resources, and enhance long-term competitiveness. As a follow-up, this program encourages the establishment of a sustainable mentoring model for farmers in feed management and strengthening their data-based production capacity.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a significant global public health challenge. In 2024, an estimated 23.2% of children under five, approximately 150.2 million globally, were affected by stunting, defined as height-for-age below −2 standard deviations of the WHO Child Growth Standards. Although Indonesia has demonstrated a downward trend in stunting prevalence, declining from 24.4% in 2021 to 21.6% in 2022 and 19.8% in 2024, the rate remains above the national target of 14% for accelerated stunting reduction, indicating the need for sustained multisectoral interventions. Strengthening community-based strategies that utilize locally available animal protein sources, such as fish, is essential. Posyandu cadres play a strategic role in delivering nutrition education and influencing child feeding practices at the grassroots level.Aims: This community engagement program aimed to strengthen posyandu cadres’ capacity in stunting prevention through nutrition education and innovation of nutrient-dense local fish–based complementary food (fish floss/abon ikan). Methods: The program was conducted on 20 September 2025 at Posyandu Durian, Tasik Raya Village (Sungai Piring Health Center area), involving 20 cadres. Activities included structured nutrition education and a hands-on demonstration of fish floss preparation. Knowledge improvement was assessed using pre- and post-tests.Results: The average knowledge score increased from 65 (pre-test) to 84 (post-test), representing a 29% improvement. Cadres acquired practical skills in processing locally available fish into an acceptable complementary food, which was well received by mothers and toddlers. Conclusion: Integrating participatory education with practical food innovation effectively strengthened cadres’ competencies and demonstrates potential as a sustainable community-driven strategy for supporting long-term stunting prevention

Abstract

Background: Community engagement in media and the arts has often emphasized technical skill development and product-oriented outcomes, while the creative process, situated practice, and collective learning remain underexplored. In the context of tourism village promotion, audiovisual pre-production can function not only to improve workflow organization but also to shape how creative practice is understood and enacted within communities.Aims: This study examines how pre-production structures are introduced in a community context, how participants respond to structured workflows and role distribution, and how video production facilitates collective learning and shared creative knowledge. Methods: A qualitative practice-based case study was conducted within an interpretive–constructivist paradigm. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and reflexive field notes during a facilitated village promotional video project. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Structured pre-production functioned as an orienting and mediating framework that clarified roles, reduced uncertainty, and enabled collaborative decision-making. The use of accessible planning practices, including mood boards, supported collective engagement in visual thinking. Video production also operated as a site of collective learning, where knowledge was externalized, negotiated, and shared. Conclusion: Structuring creative practice in community contexts not only improves production processes but also transforms how knowledge is collectively constructed. The study positions pre-production as an epistemic space, contributing to community engagement and practice-based research.
