Abstract

Breastfeeding is important for growth and development, especially in the first 6 months. Exclusive breastfeeding has the benefit of protecting against gastrointestinal, respiratory, chronic diseases and helping cognitive development. The practice of exclusive breastfeeding requires knowledge, skills and confidence in breastfeeding. Breastfeeding assistance is one of the actions that midwives can provide to mothers in helping and supporting the success of breastfeeding. The purpose of this service is to provide increased knowledge to breastfeeding mothers through education and breastfeeding assistance in theory and correct skills in increasing the provision of exclusive breastfeeding.. The methods used are lectures and demonstrations. The target of this activity is postpartum mothers from day 1 to day 4 who gave birth at the Kasih Ibu Pratama Clinic, a total of 19 postpartum mothers. Evaluation of the activity was carried out by providing pre- and post-test questionnaires and assessing the mother's skills in breastfeeding. The results of this activity are an increase in knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about breastfeeding in mothers after being given breastfeeding assistance. It is expected that midwives can maximize breastfeeding support classes for pregnant women as a planning for the future breastfeeding process and for breastfeeding mothers to guide mothers in good and consistent breastfeeding practices in achieving exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition with increasing prevalence worldwide, including in Indonesia, where the number of affected individuals reached 10.7 million in 2021. One of the main factors contributing to the rising risk of DM in adolescents is obesity, often influenced by unhealthy lifestyle habits. Therefore, education on maintaining an ideal body weight is essential to prevent DM in this age group. This Community Service Program aims to educate the students of SMA Swasta Al-Azhar Medan about the importance of maintaining an ideal body weight to prevent DM. The program combines lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities. It includes a pre-test, educational content delivery, practical exercises, and a post-test. 100 students participated, covering topics such as the relationship between body weight and DM, healthy eating habits, physical activity, and how to monitor weight and calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). The results show significant improvements in students' knowledge about DM, healthy eating, and physical activity. Knowledge of DM increased by 45.5%, understanding of healthy eating improved by 26.1%, and awareness of physical activity grew by 24.3%. Additionally, the average BMI of students decreased by 2.4%, indicating positive lifestyle changes. In conclusion, the program successfully improved students' understanding and encouraged behavioral changes to prevent DM. The increase in knowledge, healthier eating habits, greater physical activity, and reduction in BMI highlight the effectiveness of the educational approach. This program can potentially serve as a model for promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent DM in adolescents.

Abstract

Speech delay is often found in children. Parents often do not understand the condition of their child experiencing speech delay and the efforts that must be made to handle it. Leaving a child without treatment can have more severe impacts. Manual detection by health workers and the role of parents that can be done through integrated health posts, also cannot be done in detail and continuously. Based on a qualitative field survey conducted on cadres and mothers of toddlers in the Batubusuk area, it was found that cadres and mothers of toddlers did not know exactly about speech delay. The results of the counseling activities showed that there was an increase in the knowledge of mothers of toddlers before and after counseling about speech delay, while there was no change in the cadres. Educational activities need to be improved through various methods and media, efforts that can be made include early detection when integrated health posts are carried out through speech screening in toddlers and monitoring the development of toddler speech through scheduled door-to-door services.

Abstract

The Social Security Administering Agency (BPJS), which was established on the basis of social justice, benefits, and humanity, is trying to build a program for the Indonesian people called the National Social Security System. In accordance with Law Number 40 of 2004 concerning the National Social Security System, the Social Security Administering Agency (BPJS) was established as a non-profit institution to manage the State's social security program. The community as a whole may not fully understand the implementation of the BPJS program due to the low level of socialization and understanding of the health program. The community has not fully become a BPJS participant, especially those who work in rural areas or as informal laborers (farmers or laborers), because not all of them are registered or have a BPJS card. The purpose of community service is to provide an understanding to the non-formal community regarding the importance of having BPJS Health as a form of affordable and easily accessible health protection, to motivate the non-formal community to join the BPJS health program, and to support increased access for rural communities to quality health services through the use of BPJS health facilities. Community service was carried out in Perbarakan Village, Deli Serdang Regency, with 20 people attending. This activity is effective in empowering the community to access affordable and quality health services through BPJS Kesehatan, although ongoing support is still needed to overcome existing obstacles.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding plays a crucial role in the health of mothers and infants. Providing exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant's life can reduce the risk of child mortality and protect mothers from various diseases, including breast cancer. Despite its clear benefits, the global rate of exclusive breastfeeding remains low, with less than 40% of infants receiving exclusive breast milk. Factors such as maternal health issues, breast pain, and social stigma around breastfeeding in public often act as barriers. Method this program was implemented through a series of educational activities, including lectures, discussions, and Q&A sessions, emphasizing the importance of breast milk for the health of both mothers and infants. The outreach was attended by 20 breastfeeding mothers and took place on Friday, November 15, 2024, lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. The program aims to encourage more mothers to adopt healthy breastfeeding practices. With ongoing support and guidance, it is hoped that awareness of the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding will increase, positively impacting the health of mothers, infants, and families. The program also highlights the importance of collaboration among healthcare providers, the government, and the community to create an environment that supports exclusive breastfeeding. As a result of this activity, breastfeeding mothers gained information and education about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and how to implement it during the first six months after birth, particularly in the Sugiharjo Dusun II, under the jurisdiction of Pustu Desa Sugiharjo Batang Kuis.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical period for the life of the mother and the newborn baby, which can often result in death. Intensive care is always needed to avoid the dangers of complications. If the postpartum mother experiences anemia, the hemoglobin level will be less than 11 gr / dl. In order for postpartum mothers to avoid anemia, it is recommended to consume at least 90 iron tablets. Green beans generally contain 6.7 mg of iron in 100 grams. This socialization activity aims to increase the knowledge of PkM participants in implementing the right actions when postpartum mothers experience anemia. The process of consuming green bean juice is also relatively practical for postpartum mothers so that it is easy to prepare. Community service activities in the form of providing material in the form of socialization, where before and after the socialization, pre and post-tests will be given to measure the increase in knowledge. PkM participants numbered 20 postpartum mothers at the Pratama Cahaya clinic. The average pre-test score for PkM participants was 57.5 or categorized as less good and there was an increase after the post-test to 74.5 which was categorized as good. It can be seen that there was an increase in knowledge of 17.0. This socialization succeeded in increasing participants' knowledge regarding the benefits of green bean juice, the process of preparing green bean juice to be served, and the impact on pregnant women if Hb levels are low during the postpartum period.

Abstract

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a global commitment to ensure that all people have access to quality health services without facing financial hardship. In Indonesia, the National Health Insurance (JKN) program managed by BPJS Kesehatan aims to provide protection and benefits of health services, including promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. However, challenges related to public understanding of this program are still significant. Based on observations in Perbarakan Village, Deli Serdang, the majority of people have minimal knowledge about JKN. Therefore, community service activities in the form of counseling were designed to improve their understanding of JKN. Socialization activities were carried out in Perbarakan Village, Deli Serdang Regency, involving 50 participants in the format of lectures, discussions, and questionnaire distribution. The pretest results showed low public knowledge about the JKN program, with only 35% of participants knowing basic information. After being given education, there was a significant increase in the post-test results, with 100% of respondents answering correctly, recording a 65% increase in knowledge. In addition, understanding of the procedure for moving primary health facilities increased by 48%.These findings suggest that clear and structured education can increase public awareness and understanding, which in turn supports the achievement of UHC goals. Therefore, appropriate and sustainable socialization is essential to ensure active community participation in the JKN program, so that it can expand access and utilization of quality health services. This counseling is expected to encourage public awareness to register as JKN participants, strengthen health protection, and support the achievement of UHC in Indonesia.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a time full of physical and emotional changes, which are often accompanied by various discomforts. One effort to reduce this discomfort is through pregnancy exercise, which has been proven to provide both physical and psychological benefits. This community service aims to explore the impact of pregnancy exercise counseling and assistance in reducing discomfort during pregnancy. This activity was carried out on November 5 2024 at the Matahari Clinic Tanjung Morawa involving 14 pregnant women who underwent ANC visits. Through counseling about pregnancy exercise and practical assistance, pregnant women are given an understanding of the benefits of pregnancy exercise in reducing physical complaints such as back pain and leg cramps, as well as reducing anxiety that is often experienced during pregnancy. The results of the activity showed that pregnant women who participated felt calmer and had better physical readiness before giving birth. Abstract

Food quality needs to be considered, especially for the nutrition and chemical content contained therein. One of these chemicals can act as a sweetener which can enhance the taste and aroma of a product. The artificial sweetener is saccharin, which is generally added to packaged food and beverage products. However, the permitted use of saccharin in a product is around 0.005 - 0.03%. If the quantity of saccharin exceeds the threshold, it will cause health problems such as nervous diseases, hypertension, and cancer. This socialization activity aims to educate the public to be more concerned about health by carefully reading the composition of packaged beverage products before consuming them. The Community Service activity was carried out through socialization which was attended by 20 participants, namely residents around the Lubuk Pakam sub-district. The procedure for this activity includes a pre-test, provision of materials, discussion, questions and answers, and a post-test. The increase in participant knowledge is measured based on the pre-test and post-test scores of the participants. The Community Service results showed that several packaged beverage products actually contained saccharin in amounts that exceeded the threshold. In addition, this socialization also further increases awareness and presents a more careful attitude in participants in reading the composition of packaged beverage products before consuming them. Then the results showed that there was an increase in the knowledge of Community Service participants who initially dominated the category of knowledge that was not good and quite good to good and very good. The Community Service activities through this socialization have proven to be useful in increasing participants' knowledge regarding the presence of saccharin in packaged beverage products.
