Abstract

The transformation of learning systems is a crucial component in shaping excellent generations capable of competing at the global level, particularly amid the dynamics of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the demands of 21st-century education. This study aims to identify the driving factors behind changes in learning systems and analyze their impact on educational quality and students’ future readiness. Using a literature review method, this research explores the integration of educational technology, competency-based approaches, 21st-century skills curricula, and the evolving role of teachers. The findings indicate that technologies such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and interactive learning applications enhance accessibility, active student participation, and the effectiveness of self-directed learning. Curricula emphasizing skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving are deemed essential to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex professional world. Moreover, competency-based assessments and the shift in the teacher’s role to facilitator contribute significantly to creating an inclusive and flexible learning environment. Thus, learning system transformation serves as a critical foundation for building adaptive and sustainable education

Abstract

This paper examines the role and function of Islam in shaping the judicial orientation of Malaysia, tracing the influence and evolution of Islamic law within the national legal framework from the Malay Sultanate era through colonial and post‐independence periods. It begins by recounting the formation of Malay political entities and the transfer of sovereignty from Islamic rulers to Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, and British colonial powers. During these transitions, Islamic belief systems and legal traditions faced challenges from Orientalist thought, Westernization, and modernization—forces that undermined Islamic moral values and Malay identity. These pressures were exacerbated by the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the last caliphate, which had served as a unifying banner for Muslims across the region. Employing qualitative analysis based on library research and literature review, the study finds that colonial interventions—driven by secular, nationalist, and communist ideologies for political gain—impeded the enforcement of shariah. Moreover, secular indoctrination during and after colonial rule dominated the intellectual and cultural landscapes of Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study explores the concept of child education according to M. Quraish Shihab within the framework of Islamic education. Education is a fundamental element in human development, and in Islamic thought, it is not merely a process of transferring knowledge, but a holistic effort to nurture innate human potential in accordance with divine guidance. M. Quraish Shihab, a renowned Indonesian Qur’anic exegete and scholar, offers a rich educational perspective grounded in the Qur’an, combining classical Islamic tradition with contemporary educational insights. Employing a philosophical approach and library research methodology, this study analyzes primary sources Shihab's major works and supports them with relevant secondary literature. The findings indicate that Shihab’s concept of child education is centered around three essential components: aqidah (faith), ibadah (worship), and akhlaq (morality). These components are interrelated and rooted in the child’s natural disposition (fitrah), which must be nurtured through love, compassion, and example rather than coercion. Education should begin early, even from the womb, and be modeled by parents and teachers as role models. Shihab’s educational thought aligns deeply with the Qur’anic view of human development, emphasizing the formation of a balanced, faithful, and morally upright individual. His ideas remain highly relevant for addressing contemporary educational challenges in Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of understanding the concept of divinity in Islamic education through a synthesis of philosophical and anthropological approaches. Employing library research and a descriptive qualitative framework, it draws on classical Islamic philosophical texts (Al-Farabi, Ibn Sīnā, al-Ghazālī), theories of divine argumentation (ontological, cosmological), and key works in the anthropology of religion (Tylor, Durkheim, Eliade) that trace the evolution of belief and practice in socio-cultural contexts. A thematic analysis highlights the rational frameworks and socio-cultural contestations that shape the understanding of tawḥīd within Islamic curricula and pedagogical practices. Findings reveal that the philosophical approach provides a logical foundation for conceiving God as the Necessary Being and First Cause, while the anthropological perspective maps the transformation of the concept of divinity—from animism and totemism to hierophanic manifestations—along cultural trajectories. Integrating these approaches enriches Islamic curricula by embedding awareness of tawḥīd as both a source of knowledge and spirituality, in alignment with national education mandates to cultivate faithful and God-conscious individuals. These results affirm that Islamic education functions not merely as knowledge transfer but as a process of instilling vertical consciousness toward Allah SWT.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to identify and analyze the challenges faced in applying the Merdeka Curriculum (Independent Curriculum) in Islamic Religious Education learning at MA Al-Ula Ambat Tlanakan Pamekasan. The method used in this research is qualitative approach with case studies, using in-depth interviews and observation as data collection techniques. The research results show that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in madrasas faces several main challenges. One challenge is that freedom in teaching is not yet fully realized, even though the curriculum is designed to allow for more innovation in teaching methods.. Additionally, frequent changes in the curriculum create challenges in maintaining consistency and effectiveness of learning. Lack of adequate training for teachers is also a significant obstacle. Teachers need more support and coaching to be able to implement the Independent Curriculum well and according to its objectives. In the context of optimizing the Merdeka Curriculum (Independent Curriculum), interactive and adaptive approaches need to be enhanced to facilitate students' creativity and individual potential. Comprehensive support from all relevant parties, including local government, is essential to ensure the successful implementation of this curriculum. Apart from these challenges, students' cognitive difficulties and limited infrastructure also need further attention.

Abstract

Sungai Kunyit Village, rich in ethnic and cultural diversity, has received little attention regarding the role of majelis taklim as a space for community development. In such a diverse society, religious learning forums that can bridge differences and strengthen social cohesion are crucial. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the role of Islamic studies in fostering a harmonious multicultural life in Sungai Kunyit Village, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 and focuses on religious activities carried out in a majelis taklim that regularly holds Islamic study sessions and social programs. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman. The main findings reveal that the majelis taklim not only functions as a center for religious development but also serves as an effective platform for social dialogue and education in promoting the values of tolerance, solidarity, and respect for diversity. The moderate and contextual preaching of Ustaz successfully fostered a collective awareness among participants of the importance of living peacefully amidst ethnic and religious differences. The majelis taklim proved to be a medium for strengthening social cohesion through inclusive interactions between different groups, including non-Muslim residents. The results of this study suggest that majelis taklim holds significant potential as a strategic partner in promoting religious moderation, especially in areas characterized by high levels of social and cultural diversity. Therefore, policy support from both the government and religious institutions is essential to empower majelis taklim to play a greater role in building an inclusive and peaceful society.
