Mitra Abdimas: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat is a peer-reviewed journal published by Medan Resource Center. This journal aims to disseminate conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in community service, the development and application of science and technology, and the results of community service activities, models, or concepts and their implementation in order to increase community participation in the development, empowerment, or implementation of community service. This journal accommodates articles related to various potentials, obstacles, challenges, and problems that exist in urban and rural communities, as well as those related to the implementation of service activities that also involve community participation and cooperation partners. The journal is published biannually in June and December and accepts articles in Bahasa Indonesia or English.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the nutritional intake of stunted children and pregnant women through corn cracker product innovation and to optimize the utilization of local natural resources in Pante Rakyat Village, Babah Rot District, Southwest Aceh Regency. The prevalence of stunting in the region serves as the background for implementing this program, where corn as a local commodity has the potential to become an affordable nutritious food solution. The activities were conducted using Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology, involving 30 housewives and posyandu (integrated health post) cadres in a series of activities including: (1) observation and identification of local potential, (2) nutrition and stunting education, (3) corn cracker production training, and (4) production and distribution assistance. Results showed that 90% of participants responded positively to the program and were able to independently apply corn cracker processing technology. Nutritional content analysis revealed that the produced corn crackers contain carbohydrates (72.3%), protein (6.8%), and essential minerals such as calcium and iron that are beneficial for child growth and maternal health. Beyond health benefits, this program successfully increased active community participation in efforts to reduce stunting rates and created new entrepreneurial opportunities through the utilization of local agricultural products. Program sustainability was ensured through the establishment of a joint business group mentored by the service team. It is concluded that the development of corn cracker products contributes significantly to improving the nutritional status of stunted children and pregnant women, while promoting community economic empowerment through the utilization of local natural resources.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship training in utilizing social media for the development of peanut bread UMKM in Pante Cermin Village has had a very positive impact. This program is designed to improve the skills of UMKM actors in using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Business, and YouTube as a means of promotion. The approach applied is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which includes the stages of observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the training show that UMKM actors are able to improve their abilities in managing social media accounts, creating interesting content, and utilizing interactive features to expand market reach. Sales increases were recorded to increase by 30% after one month, 80% after three months, and reaching 150% after six months. The training evaluation showed a sustainable positive impact, with sales trends continuing to increase to 250% after six months. In addition, UMKM actors are also encouraged to innovate in creating product variations and improving packaging design, thereby increasing competitiveness in the market.

Abstract

This article is titled Creating an Environmentally Friendly School for Students, particularly within the environment of SMA Negeri 1 Kuala, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province. The purpose of this community service is to realize an environmentally friendly school for students, especially within the environment of SMA Negeri 1 Kuala, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province.The approach method used in this community service is the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) through socialization with 21 (twenty-one) students from Class XI Science at SMA Negeri 1 Kuala, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province. The planned activity is in the form of a socialization session, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session, discussions, and writing practices for the participants. At the beginning of the socialization, the team presented the material using a PowerPoint presentation for 20 minutes, followed by a Q&A session and discussion for 90 minutes, and concluded with a 10-minute summary. This community service aims to create an environmentally friendly school, particularly in environmental management, to support the Go Green School program. Students, educational staff, the school committee, teachers, and the principal play an active role in each stage of the activities, including classroom explanations, planning environmentally friendly school activities such as Go Green School, and implementing the LISA (Lihat Sampah Ambil — See Trash, Pick It Up) program. All participants felt that activities like this are important and requested continuous guidance in the future due to their many benefits. Environmental management, cleanliness, and greening activities within the Go Green School program, along with their practical implementation in schools, can provide insights to students to enhance their skills and behavior in implementing environmentally friendly schools. This includes social friendliness, physical environmental friendliness, Go Green School, and Adiwiyata schools.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ understanding and preparedness for potential disasters through a disaster mitigation education and simulation program at SMPN 1 Kejuruan Muda. This area is prone to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and fires, making it necessary to implement systematic preventive approaches from an early age. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The education program was delivered through interactive counseling sessions and educational visual media, while the simulation was conducted in the form of emergency evacuation drills involving the entire school community. The results of the study show a significant increase in students’ understanding of types of disasters, self-rescue procedures, and the importance of cooperation in emergency situations. Moreover, students showed a positive and enthusiastic response to the simulation activities, reinforcing the effectiveness of experience-based learning. Teachers and school staff also actively participated in the program, creating an environment that supports the development of a disaster-aware culture. In conclusion, disaster mitigation education and simulation are effective strategies in fostering students’ alertness and responsiveness to disaster threats. The study recommends integrating disaster education into the school curriculum and conducting regular training sessions as part of strengthening the school’s capacity for disaster resilience.

Abstract

The preparation of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in the Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) is a crucial step to ensure that environmental aspects are integrated into all stages of development planning. This study aims to examine the public consultation process in the preparation of the SEA for the Aceh Jaya RPJPD 2025–2045, as an application of a participatory approach oriented toward sustainability and social justice. The research uses a qualitative approach through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of public consultation activities involving stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, traditional leaders, and local youth. The findings show that public consultation enhances transparency in planning processes, increases inclusivity in decision-making, and fosters a sense of ownership among the community regarding the region’s development direction. However, challenges remain in optimizing meaningful participation, such as limited participant capacity and time constraints for discussion. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening local capacity, adaptive facilitation, and developing feedback mechanisms as integral components of the SEA process. Furthermore, the study reflects the role of higher education institutions in accompanying transformative development processes through science-based community service. Thus, public consultation is not merely a legal-formal procedure but a strategy for community empowerment toward sustainable and participatory development.

Abstract

Women's entrepreneurship plays an important role in improving family welfare and empowering the rural economy. However, limited access to information, training, and mentoring often hinders rural women from developing their business potential. This community service activity aims to empower members of the Himpunan Wanita Karya (HWK) in Kalirandu Village, Petarukan Subdistrict, Pemalang Regency through entrepreneurship education and mentoring programs. The implementation methods include training in business management, basic financial management, product innovation, and digital marketing strategies. In addition, intensive mentoring was provided in the production, packaging, and promotion processes of local products based on village potential. The results of the activity showed increased knowledge and skills among HWK members in running their businesses in a more planned and sustainable manner. Participants also showed greater motivation to develop independent businesses and collaborate with fellow members in product marketing. This activity had a positive impact on enhancing women's entrepreneurial capacity in the village and made a real contribution to family economic independence. Program sustainability will be ensured through regular monitoring and the establishment of community-based joint business groups (KUB). With a participatory and sustainable approach, this program is expected to become a model for rural women’s empowerment that can be replicated in other regions with similar characteristics.

Abstract

This community service aims to implement the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model through blended learning by integrating Papua’s local wisdom, as a result of collaborative efforts between lecturers and teachers, to enhance students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The specific objectives include: (1) developing sustainable partnerships between lecturers, school teachers, and industry practitioners as end-users of graduates; (2) improving lecturers’ pedagogical competence in shaping Pancasila student profiles; (3) fostering a professional learning community through the application of lesson study principles; (4) discovering innovative and contextual learning models aligned with higher education demands; and (5) increasing research output and publications involving lecturers, schools, and industry. The method used was a collaborative action approach involving PBL socialization, lesson planning, implementation, and reflection conducted over two months. Activities were carried out through blended learning formats and were focused on contextual content based on local Papuan potential. The program involved 6 lecturers and 8 high school teachers, and was attended by 60 students. Results show a significant improvement in students’ HOTS as observed in project outcomes and reflection sessions. Additionally, participating lecturers reported improved pedagogical collaboration and cross-sector engagement. In conclusion, the program effectively strengthened lecturer–practitioner collaboration, enhanced HOTS through localized PBL, and fostered professional growth despite time constraints and logistical challenges. The short implementation period prompted participants to adapt quickly, contributing to increased agility and innovation in lesson design.

Abstract

Vocational High School (SMK) graduates are prepared to enter the workforce. It is essential for every SMK graduate to possess specialized skills to support their future career development. In the culinary arts program, for instance, students can leverage digital marketing techniques through social media platforms to market their products. Recognizing the significance of social media utilization, particularly Instagram, as a medium for business information and promotion, there is a need for digital marketing literacy among SMK Tunas Karya students. This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to enhance students' competencies in managing social media for digital business marketing. Through socialization and training initiatives, students are expected to comprehend digital marketing strategies via Instagram to support business activities. The program's success indicators include improved student understanding of Instagram usage as a communication medium and business promotion platform, as well as enhanced student proficiency in managing and presenting content creatively. Through the implementation of social media-based digital marketing strategies, students can expand their business reach, facilitate transactions, and increase profitability.

Abstract

Nosocomial pneumonia is a prevalent infection in hospitals that poses significant challenges in diagnosis, therapy, and healthcare equity. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the social, clinical, and policy factors influencing the management of nosocomial pneumonia in two hospitals in Jakarta. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, subsequently analyzed thematically. The findings reveal diagnostic delays due to nonspecific symptoms and limited facilities, as well as high levels of antimicrobial resistance among key pathogens. Disparities in facilities across different care classes increase infection risks for lower-class patients. Furthermore, adherence to infection prevention protocols remains suboptimal. The management of nosocomial pneumonia requires an interdisciplinary approach and comprehensive transformation of hospital care systems to address these complex medical and social challenges.

Abstract

Pneumonia remains a major public health concern, often treated improperly with antibiotics. This study aims to explore the impact of community-based education on the rational use of antibiotics for pneumonia. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. The findings reveal that most participants initially misunderstood antibiotic functions and frequently used them without prescriptions. After interactive educational sessions, participants showed improved understanding and expressed a strong commitment to responsible antibiotic use. The involvement of local health workers and community leaders played a vital role in enhancing program effectiveness. This study highlights the importance of structured, community-oriented education in promoting rational antibiotic practices and preventing antimicrobial resistance. The success of this initiative suggests its potential to be scaled up and replicated in other communities facing similar health behavior challenges.
