Abstract

Background: Infants are a population that is vulnerable to health problems. Health problems experienced by infants become emergencies if not handled properly. One of the emergencies that is often experienced by infants is choking. Choking is a condition where a foreign object blocks the throat for various reasons, blocking the flow of air. Handling of infants aged 0-1 years using the chest thrust technique. Objective: This Community Service aims to identify the level of knowledge and skills of pregnant women and mothers who have babies in providing basic life support in the event of a choking baby emergency. Method: This Community Service uses lecture and demonstration methods. Participants who attended and participated in the activity were 25 people. The activity was carried out at the Ledug Purwokerto Village Hall on Friday, September 30, 2024. The media used were in the form of powerpoint, leaflets and videos.  Results: The level of knowledge before education was carried out, 8 participants (32.0%) had insufficient knowledge, 4 participants (16.0%) had sufficient knowledge and 13 participants (52.0%) had good knowledge. Meanwhile, after being given education, 25 participants (100%) were in the good category. The skill level before being given education and demonstration, all participants were unskilled, 25 participants (100.0%). Meanwhile, after being given education and demonstration, 22 participants (65.6%) had skilled skills and 3 people (12.0%) had poor skills. Output: This community service is in the form of leaflets, videos, and journal publications.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan Talk Time sebagai model pembelajaran interaktif yang dirancang untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris dasar pada anak-anak usia 7–10 tahun. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di TPQ Imam Syafi’i, Kecamatan Kota Tengah, Kota Gorontalo, dan melibatkan 15 peserta didik. Talk Time menekankan pendekatan komunikatif melalui aktivitas menyenangkan seperti permainan edukatif, dialog sederhana, dan pembacaan cerita (story reading). Kegiatan berlangsung dalam dua sesi yang masing-masing berdurasi 60–90 menit dan dipandu oleh seorang dosen serta beberapa mahasiswa dari Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Selama pelaksanaan, anak-anak menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dan keterlibatan aktif dalam setiap aktivitas. Permainan seperti Guess the Picture dan Role Play – At the Market membantu anak mengembangkan kosakata dan melatih keberanian berbicara dalam konteks yang bermakna. Aktivitas story reading juga memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam memperkaya struktur kalimat dan pemahaman makna secara kontekstual. Anak-anak mampu merespons instruksi dalam Bahasa Inggris, mengulangi ungkapan sederhana, dan terlibat dalam percakapan singkat secara spontan. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa model Talk Time efektif digunakan dalam lingkungan pendidikan nonformal seperti TPQ. Pembelajaran yang berbasis interaksi dan konteks nyata terbukti mampu meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dan kepercayaan diri anak-anak. Selain memberikan manfaat bagi peserta didik, kegiatan ini juga menjadi sarana penerapan ilmu dan penguatan hubungan antara perguruan tinggi dan masyarakat. Model ini berpotensi untuk direplikasi di berbagai lembaga serupa lainnya.

Abstract

Kemampuan berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris merupakan keterampilan penting dalam komunikasi global, namun masih kurang dikembangkan di lembaga nonformal seperti Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPQ). Di TPQ Imam Syafi’i kawasan Teluk Tomini, anak-anak menunjukkan minat tinggi terhadap bahasa Inggris tetapi belum memiliki keterampilan berbicara yang memadai akibat keterbatasan media, metode konvensional, dan minimnya interaksi komunikatif. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara anak-anak usia Sekolah Menengah Pertama melalui permainan interaktif “Things in Your Bag”. Permainan ini menghubungkan benda nyata dengan penggunaan bahasa Inggris dalam konteks sehari-hari, menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang aktif dan menyenangkan. Kegiatan ini menerapkan pendekatan partisipatif dengan melibatkan dosen dan mahasiswa sebagai fasilitator serta tujuh anak TPQ sebagai peserta. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi pengenalan kosakata, simulasi percakapan, permainan tebak-tebakan, dan refleksi kelompok. Evaluasi dilakukan secara kualitatif melalui observasi dan rekaman video untuk melihat perubahan sikap, keaktifan, dan kemampuan berbicara. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan partisipasi aktif, kepercayaan diri, serta kemampuan menyusun kalimat sederhana dalam bahasa Inggris. Suasana belajar menjadi lebih hidup dan inklusif, serta mendorong anak-anak untuk berani berinteraksi secara lisan. Selain manfaat bagi peserta, kegiatan ini juga memberikan pengalaman praktik lapangan bagi mahasiswa, terutama dalam menerapkan teori pembelajaran bahasa, membangun komunikasi edukatif, dan beradaptasi dengan lingkungan nonformal. Luaran dari kegiatan ini mencakup peningkatan keterampilan peserta dan penguatan soft skills mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan berbasis permainan konkret dan kontekstual dapat menjadi strategi efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara anak di lingkungan pendidikan nonformal

Abstract

Olele Marine Park is a marine tourism destination that has great potential because of its underwater beauty and biological wealth. However, this potential has not been fully utilized by the surrounding community to its full potential. This community service activity aims to increase community involvement in managing tourism areas through environmental education, tourism awareness training, and strengthening local institutions. The methods used are field observation, group discussions, and direct assistance to the community. The results of the activity show an increase in community understanding of the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the tourism environment, preserving coral reefs, and basic skills in tourism services. Tourism development that directly involves the community has proven to be able to build a sense of ownership and encourage the growth of local initiatives in managing tourism areas sustainably.

Abstract

The competitive job market requires enhancing the effectiveness of education in vocational high schools. In the Industrial Electronics Engineering program at SMK Negeri 1 Karawang, some students have low comprehension skills alongside very low motivation to learn. This research seeks to assess the impact of the Leaderless Group Discussion technique on improving students' learning results and engagement. The study was designed as a pre-experimental investigation incorporating a quantitative methodology, featuring a single group that underwent both a pretest and a posttest. Initially, questionnaires were distributed to pinpoint learning challenges, followed by the execution of a pretest, the application of case-based leaderless group discussions, and finally a posttest. Findings indicated an improvement in the average score from 6. 61 to 7. 69, along with an increase in the median score from 7 to 8. Beyond academic gains, there were notable improvements in student engagement, team collaboration abilities, and comprehension of previously challenging technical subjects. Participants expressed favorable experiences resulting from this initiative, particularly enjoying a more interactive and cooperative learning environment. The results of this effort include a research document, a scholarly article, and the possibility of wider application of this approach in vocational education. Consequently, the Leaderless Group Discussion method has been demonstrated to be an effective solution for tackling issues in contemporary vocational training.

Abstract

Siswa Indonesia berada di peringkat ke-72 dari 79 negara, berdasarkan data PISA tahun 2018. Berdasarkan data dari Most Littered in the World, Indonesia menduduki peringkat ke-60 dari 61 negara yang diteliti. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh rendahnya kemampuan literasi dan numerasi di Indonesia, sehingga berdampak pada sumber daya manusia yang tidak kompetitif. Kampus Mengajar hadir untuk membantu sekolah-sekolah, khususnya dalam meningkatkan literasi dan numerasi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengetahui implementasi aksi kolaborasi mahasiswa Kampus Mengajar Angkatan 8 sebagai wujud mengabdi untuk negeri. Data yang digunakan adalah data kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Program Kampus Mengajar Angkatan 8 ini dilaksanakan pada bulan September – Desember 2024. Aksi kolaborasi program Kampus Mengajar Angkatan 8 Tahun 2024 berjalan dengan sangat baik dan berdampak khususnya pada kemampuan akademik peserta didik. Selain itu, aksi kolaborasi ini berhasil menciptakan ikatan emosional yang sangat baik antara guru, mahasiswa dan peserta didik.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition characterized by an increase in blood pressure that exceeds the normal limit, namely blood pressure exceeding 140/90 mmHg. Classical music that is often used as a reference is Mozart's classical music because almost all of Mozart's works have high-frequency tones. This music therapy is carried out once a day for 3 days with a duration of 30 minutes using a cellphone with earphones that have been connected to classical music with a moderate volume to the respondents. This study aims to provide valuable experience regarding Classical Music Therapy on Reducing Blood Pressure in Elderly Hypertensives in the UPTD Gumawang Health Center Area, OKU Regency. The research design used was a quasi-experimental with a research design (two group pretest-posttest design). The sample for this community service was all hypertension sufferers at the UPTD Gumawang Health Center. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test. Based on the results of the hypothesis test, a decrease in blood pressure before classical music therapy was 3.57, after 2.62 supported by a p-value of 0.000 <0.05 can be interpreted that classical music therapy education on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients at the UPTD Gumawang Health Center. The conclusion from the results of education on classical music therapy is the realization of experience with hypertension in reducing blood pressure. Suggestions for this activity can be used as a sustainable intervention that can be used independently by hypertension patients through classical music therapy.

Abstract

The Field Practice Internship (FPI) is a form of contextual learning designed to develop the competencies of Social Welfare students through direct hands-on experience in the field. This activity aims to integrate theoretical knowledge acquired during coursework with practical applications in various social institutions, as well as to enhance skills in social analysis, interpersonal communication, and the formulation of targeted social interventions. During the FPI, students are placed in diverse social service institutions such as social care centers, non-governmental organizations, and social service offices, where they observe, participate, and contribute to ongoing social services. The results from the internship indicate that direct engagement in the field significantly strengthens students' understanding of the dynamics of social issues and the strategies for addressing them. Moreover, the FPI serves as a critical reflective platform for appreciating the role of social workers in advocating for community welfare. Hence, the field practice internship not only serves as a valuable learning platform but also helps in shaping the professional character of future social workers.

Abstract

The author conducted practicum I at the Ar-Rahman Orphanage. The first practicum conducted by the author was to research the problems experienced by the orphanage children. The problems experienced by the orphanage children were the lack of a culture of socializing so that they had difficulty in learning in groups. This condition, which is exacerbated by the tendency of today’s children to be alone rather than interact, creates difficulties in group learning and has the potential to hinder their development. Seeing the urgency of this problem, the author was motivated to conduct a mini project with the main goal of increasing children’s interest in socializing, which is expected to have an impact on increasing their self-confidence. The clients who are the focus of this project are children from various levels of education, from Elementary School (SD) to Vocational High School (SMK). In this study, the author used a comprehensive social casework approach, from the preparation stage to termination. The Ecomap method and focus group discussions (FGD) were chosen to collect data and understand the existing social dynamics. After going through all these stages, the expected result is that the orphanage children can return to cultivating healthy social interactions. Thus, they will not only be more adaptable in learning at school, but also able to create an environment free from bullying behavior. This project is expected to be an important foundation for the development of essential life skills for the future of orphanage children.

Abstract

Singkong merupakan salah satu hasil pertanian yang melimpah di Desa Limpakuwus. Saat ini hasil panen singkong belum diberdayakan secara maksimal dan pemanfaatannya masih terbatas pada pemasaran produk mentah. Salah satu solusi menambah nilai jual singkong yaitu dengan mengolah singkong menjadi Modified Cassava Flour (Mocaf). Mocaf adalah tepung fermentasi yang dapat digunakan sebagai substitusi tepung terigu. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan dan menambah nilai jual dari singkong. Metode yang dilakukan adalah sosialisasi dan praktek pembuatan mocaf. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta antusias dan mampu memahami proses pembuatan tepung mocaf. Dampak dari pengabdian ini dapat memberikan nilai tambah pada pangan lokal seperti singkong dan terjadinya peningkatan pengetahuan serta keterampilan.
