Abstract

Based on data presented by ‘Abd al-Razzāq, out of 60 ḥadīth studies spanning from 1986 to 2004, only five focused on the Andalusian region, accounting for approximately 8.3%, with none specifically addressing areas in Andalusia. More specifically, there is no connection found with the study of ḥadīth that centers on researching the figure of Muhammad Ibn Waḍḍāh (d. 899) in his book titled al-Bida’ wa al-Nahy ‘Anhā. The purpose of this writing is to explore the biography and scholarly journey of Ibn Waḍḍāh, as well as to delve deeply into related backgrounds, systematics, and methods employed in the preparation of the book al-Bida’ wa al-Nahy ‘Anhā. The method employed in this article is qualitative, utilizing a library study approach, given that the desired data is narrative and extracted from written literature. The article concludes that the background of composing the book is influenced by socio-political conditions favoring Ibn Waḍḍāh as a scholar dedicated to global knowledge. The socio-cultural conditions were alarming, marked by phenomena such as cultural acculturation, interfaith marriages, and massive conversions to Islam, prompting Ibn Waḍḍāh (d. 899) to react to the degradation of faith at that time.

Abstract

Abstract: This study focuses on analyzing a hadith narrated by Imam Ahmad in Musnad Ahmad 22391, which emphasizes unity, integrity, and the rejection of discrimination based on lineage or descent. The topic of peace and unity is highly relevant in addressing the challenges of modern multicultural societies, where diversity in ethnicity, language, and religion often leads to conflicts. Previous studies have explored the concepts of peace and unity but lack a specific focus on analyzing hadith texts as foundational guidance. This research addresses that gap by examining the quality of sanad and matan of the hadith and contextualizing its message for contemporary applications. Using a qualitative approach with a content analysis method, the study analyzes the hadith’s authenticity and meaning, supplemented by references to Islamic scholarly texts. Data were collected through library research and interpreted systematically to understand its implications for fostering societal harmony. Findings reveal that the hadith underscores piety as the true measure of nobility, promoting mutual respect and coexistence while discouraging divisions based on heritage or status. These findings reinforce the role of Islamic teachings in fostering peace and security in multicultural settings. This study contributes to the academic discourse by highlighting the relevance of hadith in supporting societal harmony amidst diversity.

Abstract

Abstract: The implementation of the life cycle rituals of the Kluet community often begins with seeing Hari Bulan so that nothing undesirable happens. This research aims to find out the origin of Hari Bulan, the meaning of Hari Bulan, the determination of Hari Bulan, and the preservation of Hari Bulan. This is qualitative research conducted in North Kluet District, South Aceh. The data source was obtained from local traditional leaders who know well about Hari Bulan. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman interactive data analysis model. The findings show that the origin of Hari Bulan was not clearly revealed when it appeared in Northern Kluet society. Hari Bulan cannot be separated from the origin of the arrival of Islam itself in Aceh, especially in North Kluet. In one month there are good and bad Hari Bulan. Therefore, the Kluet people carry out life cycle rituals on auspicious days according to Hari Bulan. To preserve it, we need mobilizers, observers, and supporters from various levels of society to keep maintaining and developing a strong motivation to participate in the preservation of the tradition of seeing Hari Bulan.

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia, with its abundant cultural and religious wealth, faces challenges from radical Islamic groups that are incompatible with local values and pluralism. These groups which tend to hold exclusive and intolerant. The two main approaches that have emerged for interpreting Islam in this context are progressive Islam and Islamic indigenization. Progressive Islam, pioneered by Farish A. Noor encourages the adaptation of Islamic teachings to the values of modernity such as democracy, human rights, and pluralism. Meanwhile, the indigenization of Islam developed by Abdurrahman Wahid emphasizes the importance of integrating Islam with Indonesia's local culture. Both approaches reject radicalism and support an inclusive and tolerant form of Islam. However, they differ in focus and implementation, Farish is more global and theoretical, while Gus Dur is more local and practical. Both approaches are visible in social practices, Farish and Gus Dur support pluralism and human rights, although Gus Dur also emphasizes the importance of local cultural adaptation in daily religious practice. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review of the works of Farish and Gus Dur, analyzing the main themes of each approach. The results show that despite their differences, these two approaches can complement each other in promoting relevant and contextualized Islam, contributing to social harmony and inclusive policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract: The relationship between Islam and Christianity in Indonesia is often marked by religious conflicts due to a lack of understanding of the fundamental teachings of moderation in both religions. In Rejoagung, a village with a predominantly Protestant Christian population bound by traditional customs, the relationship between the Muslim and Christian communities has distinct origins: Christians through migration and Muslims through marriage. This study aims to examine the lives of the Muslim minority in Rejoagung, focusing on the background of community formation and existing socio-religious relations. Utilizing a qualitative approach and phenomenological method, this research reveals the lived experiences of the Muslim minority in Rejoagung through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that values of mutual cooperation and humanity are the foundation for interfaith harmony. While there are social interactions such as visiting each other during religious celebrations and interfaith marriages, there remains controversy over Muslim participation in other religious rituals, which Muslim scholars unanimously deem impermissible. In the context of Muslim and Christian relations in Rejoagung, two pertinent hadiths are prevalent: the hadith concerning marriage between Muslims and Alh al-Kitab, and the hadith regarding Muslim involvement in the worship practices of other faiths. These findings demonstrate that despite the strict principles in Islamic teachings regarding certain boundaries, values of humanity and mutual cooperation play a crucial role in fostering and maintaining interfaith harmony in Rejoagung.
