Abstract

Organisational commitment remains the backbone of growth and development in for-profit and nonprofit organisations. However, studies investigating organisational commitment in educational sectors have produced different results. Therefore, this study examined the predictability of job satisfaction and self-esteem on organisational commitment among non-academic staff in a Nigerian federal university. A cross-sectional survey research design was adopted, a purposive sampling technique was used to select one federal University, and a convenience sampling technique was used to select participants to administer the questionnaires. Data were collected from 292 participants using validated scales and analysed using independent samples t-test and multiple regression analysis. At the same time, the hypotheses tested were accepted at a p < .05 level of significance. The result revealed that job satisfaction and self-esteem jointly predicted organisational commitment among study participants [R2 = .05, F (2,291) =7.37, p < .05]. Moreover, the results showed that job satisfaction independently predicted organisational commitment among study participants (β =.22, p <.05). However, self-esteem did not independently predict organisational commitment among study participants (β =.08, p >.05]. The study concluded that job satisfaction more than self-esteem tends to predict organisational commitment among study participants strongly. It is recommended that human resources planning units in higher institutions should put in place robust programmes that would enhance organisational commitment among their employees.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of economic policy choices on the growth of Nigeria with specific reference to the Asian Pacific from 1994 to 2022 (i.e. 29 years). Specifically, the study covered three (3) variables. The three economic policy variables are broad money supply, total trade and government revenue. The three economic policy variables accounted for monetary, trade and fiscal policy measures. Meanwhile, the economic growth proxy is considered to be real gross domestic product (RGDP). Data were retrieved from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, 2022. The robust regression analysis was suitable for the study. The study confirmed that the broad money supply negatively affects economic growth. However, total trade and government revenue positively affected economic growth. Overall, the study concludes that economic policy choices have a mixed effect on the growth of the Nigerian economy. As such, the Nigerian government should use its monetary policy tools to curb excess cash from circulation. Further, efforts should be made to reduce some trade barriers that mitigate successful trading in Nigeria. Lastly, the Nigerian government should reappraise the country's current trade policies, as this may be the main reason the Nigerian economy is still underdeveloped.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with character values on improving students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies in physics learning. The research was conducted using One Group Pretest-Posttest experimental design on class X students at SMAN 1 Jeneponto, South Sulawesi. Data were collected through cognitive tests, psychomotor observation sheets, and affective questionnaires. The results of the analysis showed that the application of PBL-NK model significantly improved all three aspects of student competence. The highest average score was achieved in the psychomotor aspect (86.5), followed by the cognitive (84.6) and affective (80.5) aspects. This improvement was proven through paired t-test with significant results on all variables (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that PBL-NK not only improves the understanding of physics concepts, but also supports the formation of student character in accordance with the Pancasila Student Profile. This model proves to be relevant in answering the challenges of 21st century education through the integration of competency-based learning and character values. It is recommended that teachers receive special training to apply this model, and the development of PBL-NK-based teaching materials is carried out to support the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum in various subjects.
