Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of three-dimensional (3D) art activities using playdough on the creativity development of children aged 5–6 years. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was employed, involving 20 children who were evenly divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through observation using a validated creativity assessment instrument that measured fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The experimental group participated in several sessions of 3D art activities with playdough, while the control group received conventional learning without playdough. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Mann–Whitney U test, and N-Gain calculation. The results revealed a significant increase in creativity scores in the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.000). The experimental group achieved an N-Gain score in the medium category, while the control group was in the low category. These findings suggest that 3D art activities with playdough are effective in enhancing children’s creativity by stimulating divergent thinking, strengthening fine motor skills, and fostering self-confidence. The study recommends integrating playdough-based art activities into early childhood education curricula to optimize children’s creative potential. Abstract

This study explores second language (L2) acquisition in children aged 6–12, focusing on the role of language exposure, social environment, and parenting/teaching strategies. Employing a qualitative case study design, three children with different backgrounds were observed: one attending an international school, one enrolled in a regular school with supplementary English lessons, and one studying at a bilingual school. Data were collected through participatory observation at home and school, in-depth interviews with parents and teachers, and document triangulation. The findings indicate that the intensity and consistency of L2 exposure strongly influence fluency, comprehension of instructions, and spontaneous language production. Children with consistent exposure across both home and school demonstrated higher proficiency, including natural code-switching, while those with limited exposure tended to be passive. Supportive social environments and consistent family language policies were also found to enhance L2 development. These results highlight the importance of collaboration between schools and families in providing rich, consistent, and meaningful language input for children. Abstract

Educational transformation through digital technology integration has created a need for learning models that are not only adaptive but also capable of building student learning agency. In this context, blended socio-digital learning (BSDL) is a strategic approach combining face-to-face learning with digitally-based social interaction. This exploratory qualitative study aims to: (1) describe teacher strategies in designing and implementing BSDL, (2) identify forms of student learning agency that emerge, and (3) understand contextual pedagogical and social factors. Data was collected through interviews, participatory observation, and digital documentation. The results show that combining social interaction with creative technology use encourages students to be more reflective, responsible, and active in designing their learning experiences. In conclusion, BSDL positively contributes to strengthening student learning agency, particularly in flexible and personalized learning contexts. It is recommended that teachers design strategies that integrate social and digital dimensions balancedly and provide space for students to take an active role. Abstract

Basic reading abilities are a crucial component of language development during early childhood. Observations at Amal Sholeh Islamic Kindergarten indicated that a majority of children aged 5 to 6 years experienced challenges in letter recognition, letter pronunciation, and associating sounds with letter symbols as a result of traditional teaching methods. This research seeks to enhance early reading abilities by using phonics techniques that focus on the systematic and multisensory recognition of letter sounds. The research conducted was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, based on the framework established by Kemmis and McTaggart, and it was implemented over a period of three months in two distinct cycles. The study involved 17 children who were part of group B. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation, which were confirmed using technical triangulation and expert assessment, and subsequently analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings revealed an upward trend in each cycle. The capability of teachers in organizing lessons improved from 69. 64% (good) in cycle I to 85. 71% (very good) in cycle II, whereas the execution of learning rose from 73% to 86%. The reading skills of children increased from 32% during the pre-cycle phase to 56. 25% in the first cycle, and further rose to 80% in the second cycle. Consequently, the phonics approach has demonstrated its effectiveness in enhancing reading abilities in young children, while also fostering a more engaging, enjoyable, and meaningful educational experience. Abstract

Toilet training is a fundamental skill that is essential to instill from an early age because it plays a role in fostering independence, discipline, and responsibility in children. This study aims to analyze teacher strategies in promoting toilet training at Al Hidayah Tangkil 2 Kindergarten. A qualitative approach was used with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, teacher interviews, and activity documentation. Interview results were transcribed for thematic analysis, while observation data were recorded using a systematically compiled instrument throughout the learning activities. The findings indicate that the toilet training strategy was implemented in a structured and consistent manner. Teachers taught toilet etiquette according to religious guidance, trained children to queue, and instilled responsibility for personal belongings. The role of teachers was not only as facilitators but also as role models through direct practice and continuous communication. Obstacles that emerged included differences in home-school habits and limited parental understanding. Nevertheless, the strategy remained effective due to collaboration between educators. Practically, this study contributes to early childhood education teachers in designing consistent toilet training practices, based on religious values, and appropriate to children's developmental stages. For Islamic educational institutions, the results of this study can be used as a reference in developing more systematic habituation programs, involving parents, and strengthening the integration between aspects of personal hygiene and the formation of children's character. Abstract

The study aims to examine the systematics and methodology of Quranic interpretation for children in Tafsir Juz 'Amma for Kids by Abdul Mustaqim and to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this interpretation. The research employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The primary data used in this study is Abdul Mustaqim's Tafsir Juz 'Amma for Kids. While the secondary data comes from various literature, both from books and journals related to interpretation methods and child development psychology. The results show that the interpretation method used is the tahlili method with a systematic structure, beginning with the introduction, asbabun nuzul (when available), vocabulary, general interpretation, and conclusion. The main characteristics of this interpretation include the use of simple and communicative language, a narrative style that is easy for children to understand, and is equipped with visual illustrations to strengthen understanding. The advantages of this interpretation lies in its child-friendly and structured approach, while its disadvantages are the limited coverage of surah, the lack of guidance for facilitators, and the suboptimal digital visual aspect. This research contributes to the development of contextual and relevant interpretations for children, and can be used as a reference by teachers and parents in assisting children in learning the Qur'an. Abstract

The pre-reading ability of children in Group B at TK Muslimat NU 1 Raudlatul Ulum is still relatively low; out of 17 children, 10 were unable to recognize the syllable cards ba, ca, and da (consonant-vowel). This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of implementing loosepart media based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) in improving children's pre-reading skills. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, involving 17 children as subjects. The instruments used included observation sheets and interview guides, analyzed qualitatively. The results showed a significant improvement in pre-reading ability; 95% of the children were able to recognize vowels, consonants, and spell consonant-vowel syllables correctly after the implementation of loosepart based on PjBL. These findings indicate that loosepart media based on PjBL is effective in supporting early literacy development, while also providing an innovative learning strategy that can be applied in kindergartens to enhance children's reading skills from an early age. Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the concept of children’s education as presented by two scholars: Nashir bin Sulaiman al-Umar and Ibnu Qayyim al-Jauziyyah. It also seeks to identify the similarities and differences between their perspectives on educating children. The research applies a qualitative method using a library research approach, with data drawn primarily from the original works of both scholars. The findings show that Ibnu Qayyim al-Jauziyyah, in Tuhfat al-Mawlūd bi Ahkām al-Mawlūd, emphasizes children’s education through the values of faith, morality, adherence to Sharia, work ethic, and intellect. His suggested methods include habituation, role modeling, advice, encouragement, and constructive discipline. In contrast, Nashir bin Sulaiman al-Umar, in Buyūt Muṭma’innah, highlights values such as monotheism, morality, compassion, empathy, respect for parents, and intellect, with methods including dialogue, role modeling, habituation, attention, gentleness, and prayer. Both scholars share a similar foundation of values and methods, but differ in approach. Ibnu Qayyim presents a more systematic framework grounded in Islamic jurisprudence, supported by references to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical scholars. Meanwhile, Nashir’s approach is more empathetic, marked by an emphasis on gentleness toward children, the use of language that appeals to the heart, and contemporary examples relevant to parents’ lives.
