Abstract

This study explores English language learners’ perceptions of bimodal subtitles‒simultaneous audio and text in the same language‒as a tool for developing speaking skills. While previous research has predominantly focused on the benefits of subtitles for receptive skills such as listening and vocabulary acquisition, limited attention has been paid to their influence on productive skills like speaking. Adopting a qualitative approach, this study gathers learner insights (N=62) through structured surveys and open-ended responses to examine how subtitled audiovisual materials shape learners’ confidence, pronunciation accuracy, and fluency. Five open-ended questions were grouped into thirty-six thematic EFLs’ responses (N = 532). Findings reveal that learners perceive bimodal subtitles as beneficial in enhancing speech production by offering real-time lexical and phonological reinforcement. Participants also reported an increase in their confidence when practicing spoken English. These perceptions align with prior research on multimodal learning and suggest that bimodal subtitles can be an accessible and effective scaffolding tool in language instruction. The study advocates for greater integration of subtitled media in pedagogical design, particularly in online and self-directed learning environments.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve fifth-grade students’ conceptual understanding of spatial figures and collaboration skills at Keleyan 1 Public Elementary School by implementing the Group Investigation model assisted by manipulative media. The research addresses two key problems: students’ low comprehension of abstract geometric concepts and limited participation in collaborative group activities. The study was conducted using Kurt Lewin’s action research model, carried out over two cycles involving 35 students and a classroom teacher. The instruments used were collaboration observation sheets and conceptual understanding tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage comparisons and gain score analysis. Prior to the intervention, 88.6% of students had not met the Minimum Competency Criteria, and only 11.4% showed a high level of collaboration. After two cycles of intervention, students demonstrating high collaboration increased to 40%, and those with low collaboration decreased to 17.1%. Additionally, the average gain score for conceptual understanding reached 0.60, which falls under the moderate improvement category. The findings indicate that the Group Investigation model, when integrated with role assignment, structured collaboration, and the use of concrete, manipulative media, can effectively enhance both cognitive and social dimensions of mathematics learning. This approach provides a promising strategy for fostering active learning in elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of mathematics students in grade IV of SDN Tanjungrejo 2 Malang through the application of Baamboozle interactive media combined with the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model. The background of this research is based on the low mathematics learning outcomes, as shown by the average student score of 66.07 which is still below the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) which is 75. This study uses the Kemmis and McTaggart model Class Action Research (PTK) method which is carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The learning outcome data was obtained through an evaluation test at the end of each cycle and was analyzed in a quantitative descriptive manner by calculating the average score and percentage of learning completeness. The results showed that the average student score increased from 66.07 in the pre-cycle to 73.57 with 60.71% learning completeness in the first cycle, and increased again to 80.35 with 85.71% learning completeness in the second cycle. This finding proves that the application of Baamboozle interactive media combined with the Numbered Heads Together model is effective in improving the mathematics learning outcomes of grade IV students of SDN Tanjungrejo 2 Malang. The implications of this study show that the integration of interactive digital media with cooperative learning models can be an alternative to innovative, effective, and fun learning strategies in elementary schools.

Abstract

One of the important factors in the success of learning is the selection of media that is in accordance with the teaching material. Based on the results of observations in class X-5 of SMA Negeri 6 Malang, it was found that the ability to write student biographical texts is still low. Students have difficulty in developing ideas systematically and using the right language according to the biographical structure. To overcome these problems, this study applies the media of idol figures in learning to write biographical texts. This study is a Kemmis and McTaggart model class action research which was carried out in two cycles and involved 36 students in class X-5 as research subjects. Data were collected through a biographical writing test conducted before and after the action, then analyzed quantitatively using SPSS 27 to calculate the average score. The results showed that the average score of students before the action was 72.69. After the implementation of idol figure media, the average score increased to 78.47 in the first cycle and 85.61 in the second cycle. These results prove that the use of idol media is effective in improving students' biographical text writing skills. The implication is that the media of idol figures can be recommended as an alternative learning strategy to improve students' writing skills in secondary school.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest and motivation of students in learning Mathematics, which has an impact on the lack of optimal understanding of concepts and learning outcomes, especially in data presentation materials. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in improving the understanding of Mathematics concepts of grade V students of SDN Bakalan Krajan 2 Malang. This study uses the Kemmis and McTaggart model Class Action Research (PTK) method which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects amounted to 23 students. The data collection technique is carried out through a concept understanding test at the end of each cycle. The results of the study showed an increase in students' learning completeness from 82.60% in the first cycle to 91.30% in the second cycle. This improvement shows that the application of the RME approach is effective in helping learners better understand the concept of data presentation through the context of real situations that are close to daily life. These findings also confirm that realistic-based learning models can be an alternative to innovative strategies in Mathematics learning in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the violations and adherence to conversational maxims in verbal transactions between sellers and buyers at traditional markets in the Tampan District, Pekanbaru, using a pragmatic approach based on Grice’s theory of maxims. Through a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected via participant observation and direct recordings of natural conversations, which were then analyzed using contextual discourse analysis techniques. The findings reveal that violations of the maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner are often carried out intentionally to generate conversational implicatures that are persuasive, polite, and adaptive to social norms. Sellers use maxim violations to persuade, guide consumer choices, or enhance the symbolic value of their products, while buyers employ them to negotiate subtly, maintain politeness, or foster social closeness. These findings indicate that both violations and adherence to maxims are not forms of pragmatic deviance, but rather represent complex and functional communication strategies. Interdisciplinary analysis reveals that this phenomenon is closely related to the concepts of politeness (Brown & Levinson), social impression management (Goffman), microeconomic negotiation, and reflections of local cultural values. Therefore, this study not only contributes to the field of pragmatic linguistics but also enriches understanding in intercultural communication, language education, and social anthropology. The implication is that integrating pragmatic awareness and real-life communicative strategies into classroom instruction can help students develop more adaptive, context-sensitive language skills for authentic social interaction.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve responsibility among children aged 5–6 years through role-playing activities at Baitul Muchlisin Kindergarten. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the cyclical model consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants involved 16 children aged 5–6 years in Group B. The study was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings designed to enhance children’s responsibility, particularly in maintaining personal hygiene, following classroom routines, and completing simple tasks independently. Data were collected through observation, documentation, field notes, and assessment rubrics using qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches. The intervention implemented “teacher–student” role-playing scenarios in which children alternated roles as teachers and students in simulated classroom situations related to personal hygiene and responsible behavior. Reflection results from Cycle I indicated that children still required considerable teacher guidance; therefore, Cycle II integrated additional learning supports, including role cards, hygiene posters, mirrors, personal hygiene tools, praise, and reward stickers to increase participation and independence. Quantitative findings demonstrated a significant improvement in responsibility scores from 50.19% in Cycle I to 91.02% in Cycle II. Qualitative findings further revealed improvements in children’s confidence, independence, participation, and awareness in maintaining personal hygiene and encouraging peers to practice clean habits. These findings indicate that role-playing activities effectively strengthen responsibility and character development in early childhood education.

Abstract

Motivated by low numeracy among Papuan children preparing for university, this study examined the effectiveness of the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach within the Holistic Academic Readiness Preparation Program (HARPP). A mixed-methods descriptive design combined quantitative measures (an initial diagnostic test and four formative assessments) with qualitative data (classroom observations and semi-structured interviews). Participants were prospective Papuan university students engaged in HARPP interventions that applied CPA consistently and used culturally adapted materials and locally meaningful examples. Quantitative results demonstrated substantial gains: arithmetic operations improved by 75–95% and geometry (Cartesian coordinates) by 78–92.5%. Qualitative findings corroborated these outcomes; students reported increased confidence, reduced anxiety, clearer conceptual understanding, and easier transitions from concrete manipulatives to pictorial representations and symbolic notation. Instructors noted improved student engagement and more effective formative feedback cycles. The study’s novelty lies in embedding the CPA model within Papuan cultural contexts and addressing learners’ unique linguistic and experiential backgrounds while maintaining instructional fidelity. Recommendations include wider implementation of CPA across preparatory programs, curriculum development emphasizing real-world contexts, targeted teacher professional development, and longitudinal research on retention and transfer to higher-level mathematics. Policy implications suggest integrating CPA-informed modules into national readiness programs to reduce equity gaps and improve university preparation outcomes for Papuan students.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a crucial determinant of educational quality, as it directly influences the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes. This study examines the effects of transactional leadership, work discipline, and job satisfaction on the performance of elementary school teachers in Pondok Aren District, South Tangerang City. Employing a quantitative research design, the study involved a representative sample of teachers selected through proportional sampling techniques. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using statistical methods to determine both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables on teacher performance. The findings indicate that transactional leadership has a significant positive influence on teacher performance by clarifying expectations, reinforcing accountability, and providing contingent rewards. Work discipline also demonstrates a strong positive effect, reflecting the importance of compliance with rules, time management, and professional responsibility in sustaining optimal performance. In addition, job satisfaction contributes positively by enhancing teachers’ motivation, commitment, and engagement in their professional roles. Simultaneously, transactional leadership, work discipline, and job satisfaction collectively exert a significant influence on teacher performance. These results suggest that improving teacher performance requires an integrated approach that combines effective leadership practices, disciplined work behavior, and supportive organizational conditions that foster job satisfaction. The study provides practical implications for school leaders and policymakers in designing strategies to enhance teacher performance and overall educational quality.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that adheres to the Pancasila ideology, starting from the importance of implementing Pancasila values in state life including in the field of education. However, in practice, school management is often still oriented solely to administrative aspects without being balanced by the application of Pancasila values in school management. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. In this study the type of research applied is a literature study. The results of this study show data that the meeting to design the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project activities at MTsN 7 Jakarta is part of the planning, the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening training by the Bireun Regency Education and Culture Office is part of the organization, the celebration of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project by students of SMPN 1 Purwakarta is part of the implementation of management. The discussion of this study, namely planning, organizing, and implementation in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project Program, shows a systematic effort in internalizing Pancasila values. Thus, in practice, these three management aspects still require strengthening in terms of substance, sustainability, and critical evaluation to truly produce an authentic Pancasila Student Profile, not simply an administrative achievement within the Merdeka Curriculum framework. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the implementation of Pancasila management principles has been systematically implemented.
