Abstract

The recitation method is very important to use in the teaching and learning process, especially in the Al-Qur'an Hadith subject. The use of the recitation method in learning Al-Qur'an Hadith as a reinforcement in understanding the material and students can deepen understanding and increase activity. By using the recitation method, students can stand alone without the help of others. This research aims to explain how teachers apply Al-Qur'an Hadith learning using the recitation method. Explain how students practice the recitation method in learning Al-Qur'an Hadith. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted at MTs Nurul Huda Suci Sugio. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, documentation. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman method. The results of the first research show that teachers apply the recitation method in learning Al-Qur'an Hadith by giving directions to students and seeing the extent of their ability to read Hadith about studying. The recitation method has proven to be effective because students can better understand and appreciate the tasks given, and show satisfactory learning results. Both recitation methods are effective in learning because students can deepen and appreciate the material that has been given. This assignment method creates a clear teaching and learning interaction format, where assignment completion can be done individually or in groups according to the instructions given by the teacher.

Abstract

The operation of Indonesian schools abroad reflects broader tensions between national identity formation and the cultural forces shaping transnational education. Yet, insufficient attention has been given to how multicultural learning is negotiated in diaspora early childhood settings. This study interrogates the implementation of multicultural education at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL), examining the mechanisms by which teachers strategically integrate local Malaysian wisdom into the character formation of Indonesian kindergarten students while maintaining core national values. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research draws on participant observation of classroom routines, in-depth interviews with teachers, and systematic document analysis, with data interpreted through the interactive framework of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña to capture processes of cultural mediation. The findings reveal a pedagogical formation conceptualized as blended habituation, in which teachers function as cultural brokers who mediate the dialectical relationship between Indonesian cultural values and Malaysian local wisdom, navigating nuanced sociocultural differences while enabling the coexistence of Indonesian moral frameworks with Malaysian public norms, such as disciplined queuing and regulated collective silence. These dynamics cultivate a functional hybrid identity aligned with the notion of Cross-Cultural Kids (CCKs), positioning transnational early childhood environments as formative sites for cosmopolitan nationalism and underscoring the imperative for diaspora curricula to move beyond preservation toward deliberate cultural accommodation in fostering adaptive competence.

Abstract

Public perception of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Nigeria has long been associated with negative stereotypes, including aggression, unprofessional conduct, and disruptive behavior in public spaces. Such perceptions have contributed to the stigmatization of the profession despite its significant role in the transportation sector and urban mobility. This study aims to examine prevailing public perceptions regarding the behavior and professionalism of NURTW members in Ibadan Metropolis and to explore how the integration of Islamic ethical values may contribute to improving their conduct and public image. The research employed a qualitative approach using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted with NURTW members in four major transport hubs in Ibadan: Ojoo Garage, Iwo Road Bus Terminal, Ajimobi Motor Park (Challenge), and the New Motor Park in Apata. Each FGD involved five participants who shared their experiences, perceptions, and views regarding professional conduct and ethical values. The findings reveal that although NURTW members are widely perceived as aggressive and unprofessional, many participants attributed such behaviors to work-related pressures, economic challenges, and the misconduct of a few individuals within the union. Importantly, participants expressed strong support for integrating Islamic ethical principles such as honesty, respect, accountability, and professionalism into their daily practices. The study concludes that structured ethical training, leadership commitment, and community engagement grounded in Islamic values could significantly improve the behavior of union members and reshape public perception of the profession. These findings highlight the potential of ethical frameworks in promoting professionalism within informal transportation sectors.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology and information has inevitably influenced the field of education. This development presents significant challenges for teachers and educational practitioners, who must develop innovative approaches to effectively integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. This development research aims to determine the specifications, validity, teacher and student responses, and effectiveness of an interactive learning media based on a PowerPoint game on the topic of characteristics of living things for third-grade students at MI Miftahul Ulum Gondang. The research employed the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observations, interviews, validation sheets, and questionnaires. The data analysis techniques included validation sheet analysis, questionnaire analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, normality testing, paired-samples t-tests, and N-gain analysis to assess the effectiveness of the developed media. Based on the validation results, the material expert evaluation reached 85%, the media expert evaluation reached 90%, and the language expert evaluation reached 88.8%. These results indicate that the interactive PowerPoint-based game is valid and feasible for instructional use. Furthermore, student responses showed a very positive result at 90.9%, while teacher responses reached 97.5%, indicating strong acceptance and usability of the media in classroom learning. Quantitative data analysis revealed an average effectiveness score of 59.27%, demonstrating a meaningful improvement in students’ understanding after using the developed media.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a pesantren community service program and its role in shaping students’ social character at Pondok Pesantren Abdul Hadi Diwek Jombang. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research explores how community service (khidmah) functions as a practical strategy for character education in Islamic boarding schools. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving pesantren leaders, madrasah administrators, and students participating in the community service program. The data were analysed using an interactive qualitative analysis model, while data credibility was ensured through triangulation of sources and methods. The findings indicate that the community service program is systematically implemented through educational activities and pesantren services, such as teaching at Madrasah Diniyah and managing the pesantren cooperative. These activities contribute significantly to the formation of students’ social character, including responsibility, social care, cooperation, tolerance, and service ethics. Direct involvement in real social roles enables students to internalize Islamic values through continuous practice rather than normative instruction alone. Leadership exemplified by the pesantren leader and a strong communal culture are identified as key supporting factors in the program's effectiveness. This study contributes to the discourse on pesantren-based character education by positioning community service as a structured and applicable pedagogical approach for developing students’ social character. However, this research is limited to a single pesantren context, suggesting the need for future comparative and longitudinal studies.

Abstract

Pesantren play an important role in shaping students’ moral character through an integrated system of spiritual, intellectual, and behavioral formation. However, modernization, digitalization, and shifting social values pose significant challenges to traditional models of nurturing and character education. This study aims to comparatively analyze the educational concepts of Imam al-Ghazali and Burhanuddin al-Zarnuji, particularly in relation to student nurturing and character formation, and to formulate an integrative conceptual framework applicable to contemporary pesantren education. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA protocol. Scholarly works published between 2013 and 2025 were collected from Scopus-indexed journals, Google Scholar, and other peer-reviewed databases. Inclusion criteria focused on studies discussing al-Ghazali’s and al-Zarnuji’s educational thought, Islamic pedagogy, and pesantren-based character education. After screening and eligibility assessment, selected articles were analyzed using thematic coding and comparative synthesis to identify convergences, distinctions, and potential conceptual integration between both scholars’ perspectives. The findings reveal that al-Ghazali emphasizes tazkiyat al-nafs, moral exemplarity, and spiritual purification as the core of education. In contrast, al-Zarnuji highlights sincere intention, disciplined learning, and the internalization of adab. While both prioritize character formation, they differ in pedagogical orientation, spiritual transformation versus practical ethical discipline. Their integration offers a holistic nurturing model that balances spiritual depth, intellectual rigor, and behavioral discipline. This model provides theoretical and practical implications for strengthening character education and sustaining pesantren resilience in the digital era.

Abstract

Generation Z, as digital natives, experiences significant transformations in how they access, interpret, and engage with Islamic knowledge within rapidly evolving digital environments. This shift creates an urgent need to reformulate Islamic studies methodologies to align with their learning characteristics and digital behaviours. This study aims to explore the conceptual foundations, methodological orientations, and practical strategies for developing a Digital Islamic Studies framework relevant to Generation Z. This research employs a library research design and a content analysis approach, examining scholarly literature on Islamic education, digital culture, and Generation Z learning patterns. Data were collected through documentation and analysed using thematic categorisation and interpretative synthesis. The findings reveal that digital platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube function as primary epistemic spaces for Generation Z, reshaping religious authority, learning preferences, and modes of value internalisation. However, significant challenges remain, including misinformation, limited educator digital competence, a lack of structured digital literacy frameworks, and algorithm-driven biases. The study also highlights the need to integrate interactive, multimodal, and collaborative learning approaches to enhance engagement and comprehension. This research implies that Islamic studies must adopt an adaptive, interdisciplinary, and digitally integrated methodology to remain relevant in the contemporary era. Strengthening religious digital literacy and developing platform-aware pedagogical strategies are essential to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and meaningful transmission of Islamic knowledge among Generation Z.

Abstract

The historical development of Islamic education in the Indonesian archipelago reflects a dynamic process of institutional transformation shaped by socio-cultural, religious, and political changes. Despite numerous studies on pesantren and madrasah, limited attention has been given to examining their evolution within a comprehensive socio-historical framework. This study aims to analyze the evolution of Islamic educational institutions in the archipelago, focusing specifically on the historical development and institutional transformation of pesantren and madrasah in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative method based on a literature review. Data were collected from various scholarly sources, including books, academic journals, historical documents, and relevant articles. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to trace patterns of continuity and change in Islamic educational institutions over time. The findings reveal that Islamic education in the archipelago evolved gradually from informal religious instruction conducted in homes and mosques to more structured institutions such as pesantren, dayah, surau, meunasah, and later madrasah. Pesantren emerged as early centers of Islamic learning characterized by non-classical systems centered on Kiai, students (santri), dormitories, and religious texts. The establishment of madrasah marked a significant phase of modernization by introducing a more formal and systematic educational structure without displacing pesantren. Instead, both institutions developed in complementary ways and played a crucial role in strengthening Islamic education in Indonesia. This research suggests that understanding the historical continuity and adaptability of these institutions is essential to developing responsive, contextually grounded Islamic education policies in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital media has significantly influenced children’s learning patterns, including their understanding of religious values. However, the integration of Islamic educational values through animated media as a structured learning resource in elementary schools remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze the Islamic educational values contained in the animated film Nussa dan Rara Season 2 and examine its impact on the Islamic religious knowledge of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Toronipa. The research employed a qualitative content analysis method to identify and categorize Islamic educational values presented in the film, complemented by descriptive analysis of students’ religious knowledge after exposure to selected episodes. The findings reveal that the film contains comprehensive Islamic educational values, including aqidah values (tauhid and faith in Allah), worship values (prayer and dhikr), and moral values (good manners, cleanliness, honesty, and asking permission). These values are conveyed through child-friendly narratives and contextual storylines that align with students’ daily experiences. Furthermore, the film demonstrates a positive impact on students’ understanding of tauhid concepts, motivation to perform worship practices, memorization of daily dhikr, and the development of positive religious attitudes. The study implies that educative and Islamic-oriented audio-visual media can serve as an effective alternative instructional strategy to strengthen religious competence in elementary education.

Abstract

The proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education presents a paradoxical challenge: while offering unprecedented access to information, it may simultaneously erode the very cognitive skills it aims to enhance. This study investigates the moderating role of digital literacy on the relationship between AI usage patterns and critical thinking skills among 245 Indonesian university students engaged in online learning. Employing a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected using the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA) and the European Commission's Digital Competence Framework (DigComp 2.2). Multiple regression and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analyses revealed that AI usage intensity negatively predicted critical thinking (β = -0.24, p < 0.01). However, this relationship was moderated by digital literacy (β = 0.22, p < 0.01), with high digital literacy students demonstrating positive associations between AI use and critical thinking (β = 0.15, p < 0.05). In contrast, low digital literacy students showed stronger negative effects (β = -0.38, p < 0.001). Cluster analysis identified three distinct user profiles: selective users (35.1%) with the highest critical thinking scores (M = 35.8), instrumental users (41.6%, M = 32.1), and dependent users (23.3%, M = 27.4). These findings suggest that AI's impact on critical thinking depends on users' digital competencies, underscoring the need for integrated digital literacy curricula to harness AI's potential while mitigating cognitive offloading risks.
