Abstract

This article explores efforts to improve the learning achievement of sixth-grade students at MI Islamiyah, Sumberasih District, Probolinggo Regency, by implementing the discussion method in Fiqh lessons. The primary issue identified is that students' learning achievements have not met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 70, which highlights the need for effective teaching strategies. To address this, the study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), a method designed to improve educational practices through iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted in two cycles, with the first cycle showing that 14 students (66.67%) achieved mastery. In the second cycle, the number of students achieving mastery rose to 19 students (90.48%). These results suggest that the discussion method can significantly enhance students' learning outcomes, particularly in subjects such as Fiqh, which require conceptual understanding and critical thinking. Based on these findings, it is recommended that teachers consider incorporating the discussion method into their teaching strategies, especially for subjects that encourage deeper comprehension. The discussion method fosters active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative learning, making it a powerful tool for enhancing student achievement. Teachers should adapt the method to suit the specific content of their lessons and the needs of their students.

The method used in this research employs a qualitative descriptive research approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted by Miles and Huberman, and data validity refers to four validation standards consisting of Credibility, Transferability, Dependability, and Confirmability. The Head of Madrasah Mts Mamba'ul Hisan Sidayu Gresik has implemented three stages of clinical supervision. First, planning, which is done by the Head of the Madrasah to enhance the professionalism of teachers by designing what will be supervised according to the needs and requirements of the teachers, involving several senior teachers. Second, implementation, conducted by the Head of the Madrasah, which will have a positive impact on the teachers in the madrasah, as the teachers will also better understand their duties as professional educators. Third, the advantages and disadvantages of clinical supervision conducted by the Head of the Madrasah in enhancing teacher professionalism include several disadvantages such as time constraints, infrastructure, lack of teachers in general subjects, and economic factors. The advantages include the Head of the Madrasah holding teacher council meetings, the implementation of madrasah regulations, and for teachers with economic difficulties, the Head of the Madrasah provides additional hours so that they can focus on their duties as educators.

Abstract

This study examines the internalization of character values in the activities of the Women’s Organization “WIsSNU” at the International Standard Madrasah (MBI) Amanatul Ummah. The research focuses on: (1) identifying the programs and events organized by WIsSNU, and (2) analyzing how character values are internalized through these activities. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that WIsSNU implements two categories of organizational programs: major events and minor events. Major events include PAKARSAMBI, Ponpesnu, and the MBF (MBI Big Fair). Minor events consist of Islamic Holiday Celebrations (HBI), such as the Prophet’s Birthday, Isra’ Mi’raj, and Nuzulul Qur’an (Ramadhan), as well as National Commemoration Days (HKN), such as the National Awakening Day. These activities serve not only as organizational traditions but also as media for character education. Character values identified by the Ministry of National Education are mostly reflected in these programs. Out of 18 values, 16 were found to be well-internalized, including religiosity, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creativity, democracy, curiosity, national spirit, love of the motherland, appreciation of achievement, communication skills, peace, social care, responsibility, and environmental awareness. Two values—independence and interest in reading—were not yet fully integrated. In conclusion, WIsSNU organizational programs significantly contribute to character education by embedding most of the core values through both major and minor events.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges of developing Natural Language Processing (NLP) models for non-standard and low-resource Indonesian dialects, with a focus on code-mixing, slang, and regional variations commonly encountered in digital communication. Using a synthetic dataset (NusaDialect benchmark) for sentiment analysis and Named Entity Recognition (NER), we examined the performance of widely used models, including mBERT, IndoBERT, XLM-RoBERTa, and GPT-4. Quantitative results reveal a significant performance gap when models trained on standard Indonesian are applied to dialectal input, with IndoBERT outperforming mBERT but being surpassed by XLM-RoBERTa. In contrast, GPT-4 demonstrates strong resilience in zero-shot settings. Qualitative error analysis further reveals systematic weaknesses related to out-of-vocabulary slang, code-switching ambiguity, morphological complexity, and pragmatic or culturally embedded expressions. To address these limitations, two mitigation strategies were tested: continued pretraining on social media data and data augmentation with back-translation. Findings indicate that while continued pretraining yields the most significant performance gains, augmentation offers a more balanced trade-off by improving dialectal robustness without degrading performance on formal Indonesian. The study concludes that overcoming these linguistic challenges requires not only technical solutions but also culturally informed approaches. Practical implications extend to AI applications in customer service, social media analysis, and digital governance, where inclusivity and accessibility for diverse language users are essential.

Abstract

This study explores how students at KH Abdul Chalim University, a multiethnic institution in Indonesia, negotiate their linguistic identities in an environment where heritage languages, Indonesian, and global digital registers intersect. The research addresses the broader concern of heritage language decline in Indonesia, particularly among younger generations. It seeks to understand how language use reflects both cultural preservation and adaptation in academic and social contexts. Using a qualitative ethnographic design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observation with four students representing different ethnic backgrounds, including Javanese, Sundanese, Riau Malay, and Flores. Thematic analysis revealed three interrelated findings: first, a clear language domain shift, with heritage languages confined mainly to private and family spaces while Indonesian dominates public and academic interactions; second, heritage languages continue to function as symbolic markers of cultural identity but face the threat of reduced practical use, creating a growing tension between symbolic value and communicative function; and third, students actively construct hybrid identities by shifting between heritage languages, Indonesian, and digital vernaculars, with social media playing a dual role—accelerating the dominance of Indonesian while simultaneously offering opportunities for revitalizing local languages through creative content. The findings demonstrate that heritage languages remain emotionally significant but risk becoming increasingly symbolic unless deliberate efforts are made to sustain their everyday use. The study highlights the significance of educational and digital initiatives in preserving linguistic diversity, positioning universities and social media platforms as vital spaces for safeguarding Indonesia’s cultural and linguistic heritage.
