Abstract

The digital transformation of Islamic philanthropy has created new opportunities for inclusive social engagement, yet the strategic use of social media platforms as channels integrating cooperative communication and social marketing remains underexplored, particularly regarding disability-inclusive programs. This study examines how LAZNAS PPPA Daarul Qur'an leverages Instagram as a cooperative communication and social marketing channel to communicate the "Tuli Mengaji" program, an inclusive Quranic education initiative designed for the Deaf community. Grounded in a Cooperative Communication framework (Jati, 2023), Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC), and the AIDA persuasion model, this qualitative case study analyzes message construction, content strategies, and audience responses generated through the official Instagram account @daarul_quran. Data were collected through non-participant observation of Instagram content, in-depth interviews with digital communication managers, and campaign documentation. Thematic analysis following Miles and Huberman's interactive model was employed to identify dominant communication patterns. Findings reveal that the organization employs emotionally resonant visual storytelling, participatory content co-creation, consistent faith-based messaging, and strategic calls-to-action aligned with both IMC and cooperative communication principles across Instagram's multiple content formats. The AIDA model is evident in how content progression moves audiences from initial attention toward donation behavior. The study contributes an initial conceptual model of inclusive digital social marketing for Islamic philanthropy institutions, embedding cooperative communication as a key mechanism of audience engagement and empowerment, offering theoretical and practical implications for nonprofit communication in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dominance of government communication messages in the implementation of the Bengkulu Tabut Festival 2025 and to examine how the meaning of the Tabut tradition is represented within the context of cultural tourism. This research employs a critical paradigm with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis involving informants from the Bengkulu Provincial Tourism Office, the event organizer Areacorps Creative, and traditional communities such as Balai Adat Rajo Penghulu and the Kerukunan Keluarga Tabut (KKT). Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results show that the local government acts as a dominant actor in shaping and constructing the meaning of Tabut through various representations within the festival, such as cultural performances, public service programs, and community economic activities. From the perspective of Muted Group Theory, this condition indicates an imbalance in the production of meaning, where the government as the dominant group controls the public narrative, while the Kerukunan Keluarga Tabut (KKT) occupies a less dominant position in determining the meaning of the tradition. Nevertheless, the Kerukunan Keluarga Tabut (KKT) demonstrates forms of resistance by maintaining the sacred values of Tabut as a spiritual cultural heritage.

Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) represents both a moral and legal obligation of corporations to promote the welfare of communities within their operational sphere. In the coal mining sector in Indonesia, effective CSR implementation is inseparable from the quality of corporate communication the strategic process through which companies convey their social commitments, build trust with stakeholders, and manage their public image before affected communities. This research examines: (1) the normative framework of CSR for coal mining companies under applicable Indonesian legislation, encompassing the most recent regulations including Law No. 3/2020, Law No. 11/2020, Government Regulation No. 96/2021, and Government Regulation No. 25/2024; and (2) the reconstruction of an ideal CSR communication model within a welfare state perspective to improve community well-being. Employing a normative juridical approach with qualitative descriptive-analytical data analysis, this study reveals that despite the relatively comprehensive legal foundation for CSR in Indonesia, significant weaknesses persist in the form of inter-regulatory disharmony, insufficient deterrent sanctions, and unsystematic oversight mechanisms. Furthermore, deficiencies in corporate communication practices — including asymmetric information dissemination, lack of transparent dialogue, and absent participatory communication — exacerbate the gap between normative CSR obligations and their real-world impact. Accordingly, a comprehensive reconstruction of the mining CSR system is needed, encompassing regulatory harmonization, institutional strengthening, corporate paradigm transformation, and meaningful community participation facilitated through effective multi-stakeholder communication. Abstract

This study aims to test the influence of the Indonesian Cultural Empathy Scale (ICES) on Intercultural Leadership Readiness to students who are active in the organization. The background of this research is based on the increasing need for adaptive leadership in a multicultural context, especially in Indonesian higher education environments that have ethnic, religious and cultural diversity. This research uses a quantitative approach with predictive correlational design. The research sample consisted of 110 students who were active in organizations, who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through a Likert scale-based questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS, including reliability tests, normality tests, Pearson correlations, and simple linear regression. The research results show that ICES has high reliability (α = 0.878) and has a positive and significant effect on Intercultural Leadership Readiness (β = 0.759; p < 0.001). The determination coefficient value (R² = 0.576) shows that cultural empathy contributes 57.6% to cross-cultural leadership readiness. These findings confirm that cultural empathy is an important factor in shaping inclusive and adaptive leadership in multicultural environments. This research provides theoretical contributions in the development of leadership models based on local cultural contexts, as well as practical implications for the development of student leadership programs in higher education.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media preachers (dai) in West Sumatra marks a significant transformation in the landscape of contemporary Islamic proselytization. Without formal certification, many young individuals use digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to deliver dakwah, even issuing complex Islamic legal opinions (fatwa). This phenomenon poses serious challenges regarding religious authority, fiqh accuracy, and Islamic legal literacy in digital spaces. This study aims to explore the extent to which millennial preachers apply Islamic legal literacy in their digital da'wah, how they construct religious authority among social media audiences, and how audiences respond to such da'wah content. Using a qualitative approach with digital ethnography as the methodological framework, data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, content analysis of dakwah posts, and participant observation of live streaming interactions. Purposive sampling was employed to select da'i with significant followings focusing on Islamic legal content. Thematic analysis was applied with source triangulation to strengthen validity. The theoretical framework draws on media literacy theory, religious authority theory, cyber Islamic environments, and lumpen intelligentsia theory. Findings reveal wide variation in Islamic legal literacy among preachers, a shift in religious authority from institutional-epistemological bases to performative-digital ones, and paradoxical audience responses oscillating between appreciation and skepticism. This research contributes to understanding the transformation of Islamic dakwah in the digital era and proposes a hybrid dakwah model as a normative solution.

Abstract

This study examines the digital political communication framing of Ansar Ahmad and Nyanyang Haris Pratamura in winning the 2024 Kepulauan Riau gubernatorial election. The main objective of this research is to identify the dominant framing patterns constructed through online news coverage and to explain how these frames contributed to the formation of the candidate pair’s electoral image. This study employed a qualitative descriptive-interpretive approach using secondary data obtained from online news articles published during the official campaign period. Data were collected through Google Advanced Search from verified national and local online media sources, using relevant keywords related to Ansar Ahmad, Nyanyang Haris Pratamura, and their campaign identity. After screening duplicate and irrelevant articles, the study analyzed 93 unique online news articles through thematic analysis and narrative analysis. The findings reveal that the Ansar–Nyanyang pair was framed through six dominant narratives: public support and legitimacy, credibility and competence, welfare and inclusive development orientation, commitment and readiness for implementation, identity, culture, and political values, and popularity and public mediation. These frames collectively constructed the pair as experienced, socially accepted, culturally connected, programmatically prepared, and electorally viable leaders. Local online media played a particularly significant role in amplifying these narratives, as most campaign-related coverage emerged from Kepulauan Riau-based outlets.

Abstract

This study examines community development based on communication governance in supporting sustainable coastal and marine resource utilization in Bintan Regency, Indonesia. Bintan’s coastal and marine areas possess significant ecological and socio-economic value, particularly through coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems that sustain fisheries, tourism, and local livelihoods. However, these resources face increasing pressure from mass tourism, plastic pollution, destructive fishing practices, weak environmental compliance, and climate change impacts. The purpose of this study is to analyze how communication governance, institutional coordination, and community participation contribute to strengthening sustainable marine resource management. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, this study reviews literature, policy documents, and previous research through the Socio-Ecological Systems framework, supported by SWOT analysis to identify internal and external factors influencing governance performance. The findings show that Bintan Regency has a relatively strong regulatory and institutional foundation, including the establishment of Marine Protected Areas and the implementation of national policy instruments such as Presidential Regulation No. 120 of 2020. Nevertheless, governance effectiveness remains constrained by limited institutional capacity, inadequate funding, fragmented stakeholder communication, and weak law enforcement. The study argues that sustainable coastal and marine resource utilization requires adaptive, participatory, and communication-oriented governance that connects local government, coastal communities, tourism actors, and conservation institutions.

Abstract

The rise of the digital era has significantly transformed the practice of Islamic da'wah, creating new opportunities for religious communication through social media. Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube have become strategic channels for disseminating Islamic messages, particularly among younger audiences who are deeply engaged in digital environments. This development requires young da'i to adopt communication strategies that are relevant to the preferences, expectations, and media habits of online users. This study aims to examine the digital communication strategies employed by young da'i in Bengkulu City and to analyze how these strategies address audience needs through the perspective of Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT). The research uses a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, digital observation, and documentation of da'wah content produced by five active young da'i across various social media platforms. The findings identify three main communication strategies. First, young da’i tailor their messages according to audience segmentation. Second, they use creative and visually engaging content formats to attract audience attention and increase message appeal. Third, they build participatory communication through comments, responses and audience feedback. These strategies reflect the four main dimensions of UGT, namely information, personal identity, social integration, and entertainment. This study contributes to the growing scholarship on digital da'wah communication and offers practical recommendations for strengthening social media-based da'wah training and enhancing digital literacy programs.

Abstract

Participatory communication is widely recognized as a key component of community empowerment because it facilitates dialogue, mutual understanding, and collective problem-solving. However, the existence of participatory forums does not necessarily ensure meaningful community involvement. This study examines how non-legal constraints shape communication processes within an informal deliberative forum established through a corporate social responsibility program in Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research analyzes patterns of participation, communication, and silence in a community–corporate communication forum. The findings reveal a gap between formal participation and substantive communicative engagement. Although the forum was designed to support dialogue, communication was largely characterized by one-way information dissemination, elite mediation, and culturally embedded norms of deference. These mechanisms limited reciprocity, discouraged critical expression, and reduced opportunities for meaningful participation. Consequently, community empowerment remained constrained despite the presence of formal participatory structures. This study contributes to participatory communication scholarship by demonstrating that communicative inequalities are often reproduced through socio-cultural and relational mechanisms rather than formal institutional restrictions. The findings underscore the importance of fostering more inclusive and dialogic communication processes to strengthen community empowerment and participatory governance.

Abstract

This research analyzes the confrontation between the principles of Islamic Communication Ethics (PEKI) which include Shiddiq (factual truthfulness), Tabayyun (verification), and Al-'Adl (narrative justice) and the reality of the Post-Truth Era within the development of Islamic media. The Post-Truth Era is defined by the dominance of emotions and ideological sentiments over objective facts, amplified by digital audience fragmentation and algorithms. The methodology employed is a comprehensive qualitative literature study, supported by a theoretical case study analysis on the failure of Tabayyun and Al-'Adl amidst sensitive religious issues. The findings indicate that the objectivity of Islamic media is under serious threat, where the demands for virality and group solidarity often override ethical obligations. The proposed solution is the revitalization of PEKI into a new epistemological foundation, termed Substantive Objectivity. This revitalization requires Islamic media to integrate Shiddiq with modern fact-checking procedures, uphold Al-'Adl as universal representational justice, and adopt the Wasatiyyah (moderation) approach to counter narrative polarization. The conclusion asserts that an implementational commitment to PEKI is crucial for Islamic media to reclaim factual authority, maintain Amanah (trustworthiness), and function as an agent of social cohesion amidst information chaos.
