Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem with high prevalence and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Posyandu cadres have a strategic role in early detection and health promotion in the community, yet their knowledge about hypertension is often limited. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of Posyandu cadres about hypertension through health education in Godog and Tanjung Sari Villages in Karangpawitan District, Garut Regency. The methods used were interactive lectures and group discussions which involved 33 Posyandu cadres. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test with a 15-question instrument. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 12.55 to 13.21, with an increase in the percentage of cadres with good knowledge category from 75.8% to 87.9%. Health education demonstrated a tendency to improve the knowledge of Posyandu cadres, as indicated by the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem with high prevalence and is often undetected. This community service activity aimed to compare the blood pressure profile and demographic characteristics between Posyandu cadres and the general public in the working area of Karangpawitan and Tarogong Health Center as an early detection step for hypertension. The method used was direct blood pressure measurement and demographic data collection on 49 respondents divided into two groups: 33 Posyandu cadres and 16 community members. The results showed that the average age of cadres was 44.0 years (hypertension prevalence 36.4%), while the community members had an average age of 55.6 years (hypertension prevalence 56.3%). The community members had a much higher prevalence of hypertension, with a mean systolic blood pressure of 140.6 mmHg compared to 131.9 mmHg in cadres. This activity concluded that although both groups have a high risk of hypertension, the public (especially the elderly) has a higher prevalence and requires more intensive screening interventions, while cadres still require regular monitoring to remain healthy as health promoter agents.

Abstract

The accuracy of blood pressure measurement determines the success of early detection of hypertension. Posyandu cadres as the frontline of health services in the community need to have good knowledge about correct blood pressure measurement procedures. This community service activity aimed to provide understanding of blood pressure measurement procedures to Posyandu cadres through theoretical education. The methods used were interactive lectures and group discussions covering patient preparation, body position, cuff size selection, measurement technique, and factors affecting results. The activity was attended by 33 Posyandu cadres in the Cempaka Community Health Center work area. The evaluation was conducted formatively through questions and answers, interactive discussions, and observations of participants' ability to re-explain the material that had been presented. The evaluation results showed that most cadres were able to identify the stages of the correct blood pressure measurement procedure, including patient preparation, body positioning, cuff size selection, and factors that influence measurement results. The theoretical education provided an initial understanding of blood pressure measurement procedures and served as a foundation before implementing practical training using the device.

Abstract

This study aims to empower the Cipayung Subdistrict community through strengthening the community-based waste management system (TPS3R) to enhance economic productivity and environmental sustainability. A participatory approach involving observations, community meetings, focus group discussions, and capacity-building programs in waste processing, management, and digital marketing was applied. The intervention improved institutional capacity, technical skills, organizational management, and community participation despite initial challenges. Although conducted in a single TPS3R unit, the study demonstrates that institutional strengthening and continuous capacity development can effectively support sustainable waste management. It offers a practical, replicable empowerment model for policymakers, practitioners, NGOs, and researchers promoting sustainable urban development.

Abstract

Character education for children in orphanages faces specific challenges due to limited personal mentoring and lack of external stimulation. One crucial aspect that can serve as a means for character building is language skills. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to provide counseling and assistance for children's character building through the optimization of language skills for foster children at the Ashabil Rayyan Orphanage, Padang. The implementation method consisted of three main stages: preparation (initial observation and problem mapping), execution (educational lectures, language skills workshops, storytelling simulations, and role-playing), and evaluation through assessing participants' attitudes and verbal communication skills. The target audience for this activity was orphanage children ranging from elementary to secondary school ages. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in children's awareness in applying polite, disciplined, and honest language ethics in daily life. In addition, speaking skills and the participants' courage in expressing themselves and their opinions in public improved. This activity is concluded to be effective in integrating positive character values into children's language skills, thereby fostering individuals who are more confident, well-mannered, and communicative in their social environment

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to provide digital account security education through infographics on phishing prevention and One-Time Password (OTP) protection for students at SMA Amanatul Ummah Surabaya. The activity involved 40 students and was conducted through interactive explanations, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and case analysis. The evaluation used a Likert-scale response questionnaire to assess the clarity, attractiveness, usefulness, and ease of understanding of the media. The results showed an average percentage of 85.4%, categorized as very good. The infographic received positive responses as an engaging, concise, and easy-to-understand medium for digital account security education.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the understanding of students at SMA Unggulan Amanatul Ummah Surabaya regarding digital literacy and digital media-based entrepreneurship. The methods used include socialization, training, practice, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding, marked by an increase in scores on several indicators from 91.7–95.8% to 96–100%, while other indicators remained at the maximum score. This activity effectively enhances students' digital literacy competencies and entrepreneurial mindset and is feasible to be applied sustainably in the school.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve students' understanding of moral values and to strengthen their character through story-based learning. The program was carried out at SMAN 8 Padang, targeting ninth-grade students through training in story analysis using a critical narrative analysis approach. A participatory action approach was applied in the form of interactive workshops and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), with the training materials focused on narrative texts, the identification of moral values, and the reinforcement of characters' traits. The results show that students were able to identify the moral values embedded in the stories, particularly honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and empathy, and to relate them to their everyday lives. The activity also encouraged students to think more critically in evaluating the moral consequences of the characters' actions. These findings indicate that story-based moral value analysis training is an effective learning strategy to support the Character Education Strengthening (Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter) program in secondary schools.

Abstract

Students' ability to understand Job Vacancy materials remains a challenge in English language learning due to limited vocabulary mastery, insufficient understanding of text structure, and low confidence in identifying information related to the workplace. This condition encouraged the implementation of a Community Service Program in the form of Job Vacancy training for twelfth-grade students at SMA Pembangunan Padang. The program aimed to improve students' English proficiency through interactive learning activities. The methods included needs assessment, material presentation using PowerPoint, videos, and visual media, group discussions, educational games, practice in analyzing job vacancy advertisements, and end-of-program evaluation. The results showed that students actively participated throughout the training, demonstrated higher enthusiasm during learning activities, and improved their ability to identify essential elements of Job Vacancy texts. The program also created a more engaging learning environment and increased students' motivation to learn English. Therefore, interactive Job Vacancy training can serve as an effective community service strategy to support the improvement of English language competence among senior high school students.
