Abstract

This article examines recent trends in constitutional reforms and their impact on the balance of power within democratic governance. Constitutional reforms play a crucial role in shaping the distribution of power among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government, aiming to enhance transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. The study explores various reforms implemented globally, highlighting their successes and challenges in strengthening democratic institutions. It particularly focuses on reforms aimed at curbing executive overreach, enhancing legislative oversight, and safeguarding judicial independence. By analyzing these reforms across different political contexts, the article provides a comprehensive overview of how constitutional changes can promote or hinder democratic governance. The findings indicate that while constitutional reforms can effectively balance power and prevent authoritarianism, their success largely depends on the specific political environment, the strength of democratic institutions, and the presence of a robust civil society. In countries with strong democratic traditions and active civil societies, reforms have been more successful in enhancing checks and balances and promoting transparency and accountability. Conversely, in contexts where political elites resist democratic changes or where institutions are weak, reforms may be co-opted to consolidate power and undermine democratic principles. The study also underscores the importance of involving civil society in the reform process to ensure inclusiveness and legitimacy. Overall, the article contributes to the understanding of constitutional reforms as tools for democratic consolidation, highlighting the need for careful design and implementation to achieve the desired outcomes. It suggests that future research should continue to explore the dynamics of constitutional change to develop more effective strategies for strengthening democratic governance worldwide.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified learning loss in Indonesian education, not only in terms of academic achievement but also in students’ psychosocial development and character formation. While existing studies have predominantly conceptualized learning loss as a cognitive and instructional problem, limited attention has been given to its ethical, spiritual, and value-based dimensions within post-pandemic educational discourse. This article addresses this conceptual gap by examining how learning loss is discussed in the literature and how character education grounded in national and religious values may be theoretically integrated into this discussion. Employing a conceptual literature review, this study analyzes peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, policy-related educational literature, and selected Qur’anic exegesis relevant to learning loss, character education, and humanistic learning in the Indonesian context. The analysis is conducted through a thematic and conceptual synthesis, focusing on patterns of thought, normative assumptions, and theoretical linkages across the literature. The findings reveal three interrelated conceptual themes: (1) the reconceptualization of learning loss as a multidimensional phenomenon encompassing academic, psychosocial, and moral dimensions; (2) the role of the Pancasila Student Profile as a normative framework for character education in post-pandemic Indonesia; and (3) the convergence between Qur’anic humanistic values and national character education in shaping holistic educational aims. Based on this synthesis, the article proposes an integrative conceptual framework that situates learning loss within a broader discourse of humanistic and value-based education. Rather than offering empirical solutions, this study contributes theoretically by refining the conceptual understanding of learning loss and highlighting directions for future research on character education and spiritually grounded pedagogical frameworks in post-pandemic contexts.

Abstract

This study examined the influence of transformational leadership and communication competence on organizational culture in a nonprofit organization. The problem addressed was the lack of clarity regarding how these two factors interact to shape culture in the Indonesian context. A quantitative survey with an ex-post facto design was conducted involving all 36 employees of a foundation. Data were collected through a structured Likert-scale questionnaire, tested for validity and reliability, and analyzed using regression techniques. The results indicated that transformational leadership significantly influenced organizational culture (R² = 0.653), while communication competence also had a significant effect (R² = 0.476). Combined, both factors explained 87.1% of the variance, demonstrating a strong synergistic effect. The study concluded that strengthening leadership and communication simultaneously is essential for developing adaptive and sustainable organizational cultures in nonprofit institutions.

Abstract

This study addresses the growing problem of household waste in Pemalang Regency, Indonesia, where waste management practices remain largely technical and insufficiently value-oriented. Drawing on Qur’anic teachings that emphasize human responsibility as khalifah (stewards of the earth), this study aims to examine the implementation of Qur’an-based environmental education through a community-based household waste management mentoring program. Using a qualitative approach with the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, the study involved 100 community members, six facilitators, and local religious and community leaders. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and semi-structured questionnaires as supporting instruments. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, supported by triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings indicate that the internalization of Qur’anic values such as khalifah, amanah, mizan, and the prohibition of fasad contributed to increased ecological awareness and behavioral change in household waste management practices, including waste segregation, reduction, and recycling. The mentoring process also fostered collective participation and strengthened community-based ecological responsibility. This study concludes that Qur’an-based environmental education implemented through a participatory mentoring approach can effectively promote sustainable household waste management while reinforcing the integration of Islamic spiritual values into community-driven environmental practices.

Abstract

In the context of Simeulue Regency, Aceh, teachers are required to adapt to these limitations by developing practical strategies for utilizing available learning media. This study aims to explore and analyze teacher strategies in utilizing learning media, focusing on the types of media used, instructional planning, classroom implementation, and perceived effects on student engagement and learning processes. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design conducted in three public elementary schools (SDN 8, SDN 13, and SDN 14 Simeulue). Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with nine teachers and three school principals selected purposively, and documentation analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis involving data reduction, categorization, and interpretation to identify recurring patterns of strategy use. The findings indicate that teachers predominantly utilize visual media (pictures and charts), real objects from the surrounding environment, and simple digital media. These strategies are perceived by teachers to enhance student motivation, participation, and conceptual understanding, as reflected in increased classroom interaction, student responsiveness, and attentiveness during learning activities. However, the effectiveness of media utilization is influenced by supporting factors such as teacher creativity and school leadership support, as well as inhibiting factors including limited facilities and teachers’ digital competencies. This study contributes to a contextual understanding of how learning media are strategically utilized in resource-limited elementary schools and highlights that media function as pedagogical supports rather than determinants of measurable academic achievement. The findings suggest that sustainable media utilization requires continuous professional development and institutional support tailored to rural school contexts.

Abstract

This systematic literature review addresses the limited empirical evidence on integrating e-modules and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in application-intensive engineering courses, particularly Powertrain Systems. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a Scopus search (2015–2025) identified 600 articles, of which 18 high-quality empirical studies were selected through four screening phases. Meta-aggregation of pre–post data indicates substantial learning gains across domains: cognitive (+24.3%, d = 1.42), affective (+22.7%, d = 1.28), and psychomotor (+25.4%, d = 1.51). Effective e-module features include interactive video tutorials, virtual simulations, and industry-based case studies. Team-based PjBL projects lasting 6–8 weeks emerged as the most suitable format for undergraduate settings. Key challenges involve high development workload, infrastructure limitations, and insufficient faculty readiness. Based on synthesized evidence, this review proposes a structured five-module framework for Powertrain Systems that integrates progressive PjBL complexity, simulation-supported learning, authentic industry contexts, and diversified assessment strategies to enhance learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the comparative effects of traditional games and digital media on the development of character values and social skills in elementary school physical education. Motivated by concerns regarding reduced social interaction due to the growing dominance of digital media, the study employed a mixed-methods design involving 69 fifth- and sixth-grade students in Padang, Indonesia. Students participated in interventions using traditional games (Gobak Sodor) and educational digital media (exergames). Data were collected through validated questionnaires and behavioral observation sheets, with quantitative analysis conducted using PLS-SEM and qualitative data analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that traditional games significantly improved students’ social skills, while digital media had a significant positive effect on character values. However, traditional games did not significantly influence character values, and digital media did not significantly affect social skills. These results show that each approach has selective strengths, suggesting that an integrated strategy combining cultural and technological elements may offer a more holistic physical education experience.
