Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a major global and national health issue, largely caused by delays in recognizing pregnancy danger signs and delays in seeking care. Promotive and preventive efforts through pregnant women classes are effective strategies to improve maternal health literacy. This community service aimed to enhance pregnant women's knowledge of danger signs during pregnancy through the implementation of pregnant women classes at a community health post. The method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The activity involved 20 pregnant women and included educational interventions using lectures, interactive discussions, demonstrations, and educational media such as leaflets and maternal health books. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from a mean pretest score of 58.5 to 86.7 in the posttest. The greatest improvements were observed in understanding danger signs such as vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, decreased fetal movement, and preeclampsia symptoms. The activity also enhanced active participation among participants. Conclusion: pregnant women classes are effective promotive and preventive tools to improve knowledge, supporting early detection of obstetric emergencies and prevention of pregnancy complications.

Abstract

Insomnia among adolescents is a growing health issue driven by lifestyle changes, including high academic demands, excessive gadget use, and a lack of knowledge regarding healthy sleep hebits (sleep hygiene). Persistent sleep disturbances can lead to reduced concentration, emotional instability, lower academic performance a weakened immune system, and a diminished quality of life. Therefore, promotive and preventive measures, specifically health education, are needed to enhance knowledge and foster healthy sleep behaviors. This community service initiative aims to improve adolescents knowledge and skills regarding sleep hygiene practices and relaxation techniques as a means of preventing insomnia. The program targets high school students. Implementation methods include interactive education using presentations and leaflets, demonstration and practice of relaxation techniques, discussions, and question and answer sessions, alongside pre test and post test evaluations to measure gains in knowledge. Expected outcomes include increased adolescent knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of sleep quality, improved ability among participants to independently apply relaxation techniques, the adoption of better sleep hygiene habits, and the fulfillment of the higher education “Tridharma” (Three Pillars) mandate to improve adolescent health.

Abstract

The community service program was conducted in the Buntut Bali Transmigration Area SP 2, Pulau Malan District, Katingan Regency, as an effort to address the issue of many elementary school-aged children experiencing difficulties in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Based on observations, interviews, and discussions with local residents, school staff, and parents, several factors were identified as contributing to this problem, including limited learning guidance at home, insufficient learning time at school, and the lack of engaging and easy-to-understand learning media. The activities were carried out using creative learning media in the form of a basic literacy and numeracy book containing letter cards, number cards, syllable boards, educational games, and worksheets. In addition, socialization activities were conducted for teachers and parents regarding ways to assist children in learning at home. The beneficiaries of thisprogram included children, parents, teachers, and the supporting community. The stages of the program included preparing learning materials and invitations, conducting socialization and guidance on the use of learning media with the children, and distributing the learning media to parents and the school. This program aimed to foster children's interest in learning, improve their reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, and strengthen cooperation between families and schools in continuously supporting children's learning and development.

Abstract

Kendalsari Village faces the issue of accumulating agricultural and household yard biomass waste, which is typically disposed of through open burning. Meanwhile, a large portion of the community still relies on traditional wood-burning stoves that are energy-inefficient and polluting. This community service initiative aims to foster a culture of sustainable waste management and energy efficiency through environmental education and guidance on the innovative "rocket stove" (an energy-efficient stove) technology. The project employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, comprising stages of social mapping, participatory planning (Focus Group Discussions), action implementation (awareness-raising and stove assembly workshops), and evaluation. The results indicate a significant increase in residents' understanding and awareness regarding the dangers of waste burning and waste management practices, rising from an average of 20% to 45%. During the physical implementation phase, the target community successfully constructed and utilized "rocket stoves," which proved capable of reducing smoke emissions and cutting biomass fuel consumption by 40%–50% compared to conventional stoves. This empowerment program successfully initiated the formation of a group of environmental advocates committed to sustaining the transition to clean energy and effective waste management in Kendalsari Village.

Abstract

This community empowerment activity was carried out in RW 02, covering RT 04 and RT 05, Yosodadi Village, Metro Timur District, Metro City, targeting two interrelated issues: the suboptimal management of household organic waste and the low utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) as a means of family self-health care. The activity began with a brief and informal initial socialization session with the residents, followed by the planting of TOGA on a plot of land owned by RT 05. Subsequently, the team independently processed organic waste into compost. Once the TOGA plants had grown and were ready, the team held a closing event called the TOGA inauguration, which involved delivering material on TOGA and organic compost to the residents of RT 04 and RT 05 through a formal presentation. As the highlight of the activity, the team made a warm herbal drink from the harvested TOGA plants and distributed it to the residents. The results of the activity showed an increase in residents' understanding of organic waste management and family medicinal plants, the establishment of a TOGA garden on the RT 05 plot, as well as positive responses from residents toward the inauguration event and the spiced herbal drink distributed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the digitalization strategy of food MSMEs and cybercrime mitigation in Paya Pinang Village as an effort to support poverty reduction. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants were food MSME owners who were involved in using digital technology for marketing, transactions, and business development. The results show that the utilization of social media, e-commerce, and digital payments provides opportunities for MSMEs to expand their marketing reach, increase interaction with consumers, facilitate transactions, and improve sales and income opportunities. However, digitalization also creates various cybercrime threats, including phishing, online fraud, account theft, and misuse of personal data. Therefore, digitalization strategies need to be accompanied by improved digital literacy and security through the use of strong passwords, account verification, awareness of suspicious links, and protection of customer data. Safe and sustainable digitalization is expected to strengthen MSME competitiveness, increase community income, and contribute to poverty reduction in Paya Pinang Village

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the existence of a company on the social and economic life of the community in Paya Pinang Village. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation during the implementation of the 2026 Community Service Program (KKN) of UIN Sumatera Utara. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, involving residents, company employees, retired employees, and community leaders who possessed relevant knowledge and experience regarding the company’s presence. The results show that the company has a positive impact on the economic conditions of the community, particularly through the provision of employment opportunities, more stable income, housing facilities, allowances, bonuses, and old-age benefits. The company also provides opportunities for residents to develop side businesses and contributes to social activities and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. From a social perspective, relationships among residents generally remain harmonious, and the company’s presence does not create significant conflicts. However, several needs remain, including improvements to residential facilities, provision of productive business locations, and enhancement of community empowerment programs. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation.

Abstract

This study reveals that the low interest among the younger generation in pursuing higher education remains a persistent issue in Talangkah Village. This situation is influenced by factors such as economic constraints, a lack of information regarding higher education and scholarships, and the distance to higher education institutions. The study aims to improve understanding of and access to information about higher education and the KIP-Kuliah (Indonesia Smart College Card) program. The study employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving the community in problem identification, planning, implementation, and program evaluation. Activities were conducted through an outreach session titled "Higher Education and KIP-Kuliah Education for the Younger Generation" at SMKN 1 Kasongan, targeting students from Talangkah Village. Evaluation results from 20 participants indicate that the activity successfully enhanced their understanding of the importance of higher education, opportunities for further study, and the benefits of KIP-Kuliah as educational financial aid for students from underprivileged families. Participants also demonstrated a positive response and increased motivation to consider higher education as a future option. However, some participants still required further information regarding KIP-Kuliah eligibility requirements and application procedures. To ensure sustainability, a "Higher Education and KIP-Kuliah Information Corner" was established, involving community service (KKN) students, school officials, and village authorities. This program contributes to increasing the younger generation's knowledge and initial awareness regarding the importance of higher education while expanding access to educational information on a sustainable basis.

Abstract

Waste management in Tewang Kadamba Village still faces challenges regarding limited facilities, institutional management structures, and community participation in waste sorting. This community service initiative aims to optimize the Waste Bank as part of a community-based waste management effort. The project employs a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, encompassing problem identification, collaborative action planning, implementation, evaluation and reflection, and the strengthening of program sustainability. The results demonstrate improvements in infrastructure, human resources, policy, and institutional aspects. Optimization was achieved through the upgrading and organization of Waste Bank facilities, education on waste sorting, the appointment of management personnel and formalization of appointments, and the strengthening of collaboration between the Village Government and local schools. The initiative demonstrates that the PAR approach can establish a foundation for more organized and participatory Waste Bank management. Sustaining the program requires continued management consistency, community participation, and monitoring beyond the conclusion of the project activities.
