Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning difficulties experienced by second-grade students at SDN Serang 06 in mastering addition, which serves as the foundation for subsequent mathematical operations. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved students and classroom teachers as subjects, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and validated using triangulation techniques. The findings reveal four main types of difficulties: (1) conceptual difficulties in understanding addition as a process of combining numbers; (2) procedural difficulties, particularly in column addition with carrying; (3) difficulty recalling basic addition facts, indicated by reliance on finger counting; and (4) difficulty solving word problems due to inability to link problem contexts with appropriate operations. Contributing factors include internal aspects such as anxiety, low motivation, and lack of confidence, as well as external aspects like monotonous teaching methods, limited media use, and insufficient parental support. The study highlights the need for innovative learning strategies utilizing concrete and contextual media, along with teacher–parent collaboration, to minimize learning difficulties and strengthen students’ mathematical foundations.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by visual media on junior high school students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. The background of this research lies in the fact that many students still struggle to connect abstract mathematical concepts with their practical applications in everyday life. PBL was chosen because it positions students as active learners involved in analyzing and solving real-world problems, while visual media serves as a tool to concretize abstract concepts, making them easier to understand. The research method employed was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design, using a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of two classes of eighth-grade students (32 students each), selected through purposive sampling. The experimental class received instruction using the PBL model assisted by visual media, while the control class was taught using conventional methods. The research instrument was a mathematical problem-solving test in the form of essay questions based on Polya’s four problem-solving stages. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent t-tests. The findings revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group achieved a higher posttest mean score (81.6) compared to the control group (70.3), with average N-Gain scores of 0.65 (medium-high category) and 0.42 (medium category), respectively. The independent t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a positive and significant effect of implementing PBL with visual media on students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. Therefore, it can be concluded that the combination of PBL and visual media is effective in enhancing mathematical understanding, critical thinking skills, and making mathematics learning more contextual and meaningful for junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of tennis service skills among junior athletes at the Manonjaya Tennis Club in 2024. The background of this study is based on the importance of mastering service techniques as a basic skill in tennis that plays a major role in scoring points in a match. The research method used is quantitative descriptive with a survey technique. The research population consisted of 20 athletes, with a sample of 12 junior athletes (8 boys and 4 girls) aged 10–14 years selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was the Hewitt tennis test, which consisted of 10 service skill trials assessed based on ball placement accuracy. Data analysis used descriptive percentage statistics. The results showed that the average service ability of the athletes was 40% with a median of 40.5, a mode of 41, a minimum value of 37, a maximum value of 43, and a standard deviation of 2.88. A total of 67% of athletes were in the high category (Grade B), while the other 33% were in the medium category (Grade C). The conclusion of this study is that the service ability of junior athletes at the Manonjaya Tennis Club is relatively good, although there are still athletes who need further training. This study recommends the need for more focused training in physical, technical, and mental aspects of competition so that the quality of athletes' serves can improve consistently.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of Islamic boarding school education in shaping the religious character of students at the Al-Wasilah Mardhotillah Islamic Boarding School in facing the challenges of the Society 5.0 era. Religious character education is very important, especially in this digital era, where the influence of technology and information can threaten moral values. The research method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. This research highlights several methods of forming religious character that are applied in Islamic boarding schools, such as habituation, example, advice, supervision, and punishment. The results of the research show that the Al-Wasilah Mardhotillah Islamic Boarding School has succeeded in implementing these methods in forming the religious character of its students. However, challenges such as physical fatigue, lack of variety in learning methods, and limited understanding of religious material are inhibiting factors in the character formation process. For this reason, Islamic boarding schools are expected to make improvements in terms of balancing activity schedules and varying learning methods to make them more interesting and interactive. This research concludes that Islamic boarding school education plays a key role in facing the challenges of the Society 5.0 era, by providing a strong foundation of moral and religious values for students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe students’ commognitive processes when solving contextual problems on definite integrals related to the area between curves. The research method was carried out through several stages, namely preparation, data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions. The research subjects were ten students from a private university in Indonesia who were asked to solve a contextual mathematics problem within 30 minutes, specifically on definite integrals to determine the area bounded by two curves. Based on their work, one student was selected as the main subject to be analyzed using a commognitive approach and interviewed in depth to obtain more detailed information. The results of the study showed that the subject was able to translate the problem statements into mathematical form accurately. The subject was also able to use mathematical terms and symbols correctly (words use), illustrate the given conditions into graphs appropriately (visual mediators), and apply problem-solving steps systematically based on prior knowledge (routines). In addition, the subject was able to draw correct conclusions supported by valid mathematical arguments. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that students are capable of solving contextual mathematics problems successfully. Furthermore, it is expected that students can improve their understanding of course materials so that they are able to solve given problems more optimally and support the achievement of learning objectives.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low enthusiasm of learning of X RPL class students of SMK Negeri 1 Belimbing when not using learning media. The purpose of this research is to develop Android-based learning media on photography basics material to increase interest and learning effectiveness. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The results of media expert validation of 96.67% and material experts of 93.75%, indicating the media is classified as very feasible. Student responses to the media were also very positive, with an average of 88% in the small-scale test and 83.67% on a wide scale. The increase in learning interest can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results, both in the experimental and control classes. The t-test showed a significance value of 0.003, which means the media is effective to use. The effectiveness test result of 0.773 is in the medium category. This media is proven to be able to increase students' interest in learning. This research is expected to be a reference in developing other technology-based learning media

Abstract

This study aims to improve the English learning achievement of students at SMP Negeri 9 Ambon through the use of Quizizz media. The method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles involving 20 students from class VIII-10. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and tests, then analyzed using a descriptive comparative approach. The findings revealed that the students’ average score in the pre-cycle was 69 with a mastery percentage of 50%. After implementing Quizizz, students’ achievement improved in Cycle I with an average score of 78.75 and a mastery rate of 70%, and further increased in Cycle II with an average of 88.1 and 100% mastery. These results indicate that the application of Quizizz can enhance students’ engagement in learning and positively impact their English learning achievement

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based questions in teaching mathematics on data processing material in fifth-grade elementary school students. The research was conducted through comprehensive observation of lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation by the teacher. The results show that the questions used cover cognitive levels L4 to L6 based on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy. The questions were designed following the PISA assessment model, including complex multiple-choice and extended response formats to promote higher-order thinking. Evaluation was conducted holistically, encompassing cognitive, skills, and students’ spiritual and social attitudes. The teacher also assessed the learning process by observing students working individually and in groups. When students faced difficulties in understanding the questions, the teacher provided scaffolding to support independent thinking. The alignment between learning objectives, processes, and assessment was a key factor in the successful and meaningful implementation of HOTS questions, enhancing the quality of mathematics learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach in mathematics learning on the topic of composition of functions in Grade XI of senior high school. The approach was applied to connect mathematical concepts with local cultural contexts, making the learning experience more meaningful. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving 25 students from Grade XI as participants. Data were collected through observation, unstructured interviews, written tests, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively using source triangulation. The results showed that the implementation of CRT increased students’ motivation, engagement, and conceptual understanding. The use of local cultural contexts—such as the making of baju cele (traditional Ambonese attire), papeda (sago porridge), and sagu tumbu (a traditional Maluku snack)—helped students grasp the concept of composition of functions in a more concrete and relevant way. However, challenges remained, including teachers’ difficulties in linking mathematical concepts to local culture and time constraints during implementation. Overall, the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach proved effective in fostering meaningful learning, as it bridges academic knowledge with students’ cultural identity in line with the spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran Pendidikan dan Pelatihan (Diklat) dalam upaya meningkatkan kinerja dan profesionalisme Aparatur Sipil Negara (ASN) yang bertugas di birokrasi daerah. Peningkatan kualitas ASN menjadi kunci vital dalam mewujudkan tata kelola pemerintahan yang efektif dan pelayanan publik yang prima. Dengan menggunakan metode studi literatur, penelitian ini menganalisis berbagai konsep, temuan empiris, dan kerangka kebijakan terkait pelaksanaan Diklat, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan tantangan implementasi yang sering dihadapi di lingkungan pemerintah daerah. Fokus utama kajian adalah untuk memahami sejauh mana program Diklat yang ada mampu menjawab kebutuhan spesifik daerah serta dampaknya terhadap peningkatan kompetensi manajerial dan teknis ASN. Kajian literatur mengungkapkan bahwa pelaksanaan Diklat di daerah masih menghadapi sejumlah tantangan signifikan, meliputi kurangnya relevansi materi Diklat dengan tugas pokok dan fungsi spesifik ASN di daerah, keterbatasan anggaran, serta perencanaan dan evaluasi program yang belum terintegrasi secara menyeluruh. Permasalahan ini berdampak langsung pada kualitas pelayanan publik, yang sering dicirikan oleh inefisiensi, lambatnya inovasi, dan kurangnya responsivitas terhadap kebutuhan masyarakat. Namun, berbagai studi juga menegaskan bahwa Diklat yang terencana baik dan berkesinambungan terbukti mampu meningkatkan knowledge, skill, dan attitude ASN, yang pada gilirannya mendorong peningkatan kualitas hasil kerja dan etos profesionalisme. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, penelitian ini merumuskan rekomendasi strategis untuk perbaikan kebijakan dan praktik Diklat di birokrasi daerah. Rekomendasi utama menekankan perlunya desain program Diklat yang lebih relevan dan berkelanjutan, yang secara eksplisit harus terintegrasi dengan rencana pembangunan daerah dan kebutuhan kompetensi spesifik unit kerja. Selain itu, diperlukan sistem coaching dan mentoring pasca-Diklat untuk memastikan transfer pengetahuan dan keterampilan ke dalam praktik kerja sehari-hari, serta evaluasi berbasis dampak untuk mengukur kontribusi Diklat terhadap peningkatan kinerja organisasi dan kualitas pelayanan publik secara nyata.
