Abstract

Traditional games must be adapted for the present since they have cultural values that need to be conserved for future generations. This study attempts to create an EFAS (Engklek Fun and Smart) medium version of a typical game product. With research experience at IES Al-Ittihadiyah Berastagi, this study applies the Research and Development (R&D) technique. Forty-five first graders of Islamic Elementary School (IES) Al-Ittihadiyah Berastagi became the study participants. The findings indicate that the EFAS medium is recognized as valid. The "Very Valid" category showed an 89.63% score for the EFAS medium. It is also claimed that the EFAS medium is useful. This information came from a survey of the students and teachers’ opinions. Twenty-five students completed a questionnaire on the EFAS medium, and the questionnaire received 9.6% in the "Very Practical" category. A score of 97.5% in the "Very Practical" category came from the teachers’ response to the supplied statement. The results of the two questionnaires indicate that the teachers and students’ replies are categorized as being very practical. Third, the EFAS medium is deemed operational. This was demonstrated by the fact that the students were able to respond to the ASK and DO question instruments both in writing and orally with a score of 92% during the learning process utilizing EFAS. Written responses to EFAS infer that it can be an "effective" medium, whereas oral responses indicate that the medium can help students develop their communication abilities. This justifies the declaration that the EFAS medium is legitimate, applicable, and useful for enhancing students' communication skills.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop a learning model in the Project of Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening (PPSPS). This model is a Treffinger model based on hybrid learning for elementary school students. The development of a Treffinger model based on hybrid learning in this research used a development model adapted from Plomp (1997). The development model by Plomp has five main stages, including (1) preliminary investigation, (2) design, (3) realization/construction, (4) test, evaluation, and revision, and (5) implementation. The subjects of this research were the students in class 4A and 4B of Muhammadiyah Elementary School (MES) 1 Babat. The instruments used were student learning outcomes and student responses to the learning process. The validation instruments in this research were the validation tests of the lesson plans/teaching modules, students worksheets, student books, model books, and assessment instruments. Based on the results of preliminary study, a hybrid-learning-based Treffinger model was designed. The model design in this study included (1) model book design, (2) design of learning components (student books, teaching modules, worksheets), and (3) instrument design to obtain data in the model development process. The development of the Treffinger model based on hybrid learning was tested for the validity, resulting in a percentage of 92%, whereas the effectiveness was tested based on teacher observations resulting in a percentage of 93%. The learning outcomes had a percentage of 83%, and the practicality test based on student responses resulted in a percentage of 97%. Based on these research results, the development of the Treffinger Model based on hybrid learning is considered suitable for use.

Abstract

Over the past two decades, research on the central role of teachers' social-emotional competencies (SEC) in their teaching abilities has increased rapidly. However, there is not much research that focuses on increasing the social-emotional competence of pre-service teachers. This study aims to explore the impact of pre-service teachers' SECon their English language teaching to young learners at the elementary level. Investigating how pre-service teachers develop their SEC at the elementary school level. This research used a qualitative method with seven prospective Islamic elementary school teachers as participants. Data collection in the research used observations and semi-structured interviews with prospective Islamic elementary school teachers who taught English to young students in fifth grade at the elementary level. Inductive data analysis was carried out in this research with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The research results show that pre-service teachers' social-emotional competencies are critical in avoiding burnout, improving well-being, and creating a positive learning environment. Pre-service teachers can begin to develop their social-emotional competencies by cultivating self-awareness. When pre-service teachers are aware of their emotions, they feel more in control of students in the classroom and make better decisions during the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

The process of drawing conclusions in semiotic reasoning based on objects, signs, students' interpretation of the meaning of signs is reflected through written, verbal, and gestural answers (multimodal). Therefore, this research aims to describe the patterns of students' semiotic reasoning in solving two-dimensional shape problems based on a multimodal analysis. This study was conducted qualitatively using an exploratory descriptive approach. The research was conducted by involving two participants from the third grade of Muhammadiyah Elementary School (MES), Malang. The instruments used were observations, interview guidelines, and written exam questions. Observations were made when the participants solved problems in writing and during interviews. The interviews were conducted to confirm the written answers. The written test consisted of one question about the perimeter of a two-dimensional shape. The research results of the two third-grade students were analyzed using four stages of data transcription, sorting and selecting appropriate data, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research obtained two patterns of semiotic reasoning used by the participants. The first pattern was analysis, analysis-generalization, integration, and justification. The second pattern was analysis, analysis-generalization, integration, analysis, integration, integration, and justification. In addition, it was found that the first pattern gave the wrong final answer. In the first pattern, especially at the stage of implementing the problem-solving plan, the participant made a mistake in the integration indication, resulting in a wrong answer. Follow-up research needs to be carried out to determine the quality of students' reasoning ability when solving multimodal-based mathematical problems.

Abstract

Changes during the transition period from the 2013 curriculum to the independent curriculum have caused several obstacles for the school community, including the teachers who need to adjust their competencies to the latest curriculum. Therefore, the school principal plays a crucial role in overcoming these obstacles. The purpose of this study is to reveal the role of school principal in overcoming teachers’ obstacles in developing the independent curriculum in elementary schools. This research used a case study method through a qualitative approach with Ngupasan State Elementary School as the location of the study. The subjects of this study were the principal, the teachers, and some students. The data collection techniques consisted of observation, interviews, and documentation. To obtain valid data, a data validity test was carried out through data triangulation by using the technical triangulation and source triangulation. The data analysis technique consisted of data reduction, presentation, and verification. The results of this study show that, to overcome teachers’ obstacles in developing the independent curriculum in elementary schools, the principal acts as a decision maker, mentor, liaison, director, leader, and coordinator with such efforts as a) making bold and firm decisions or decisions by deliberation, b) accepting the opinions/input/suggestions from each teacher, c) providing guidance and direction for teachers who have difficulty in teaching, d) serving as a liaison with the school committee, e) giving solutions, motivation, and support for teacher performance, f) focusing on school programs that are derived from the school's vision and mission, g) helping teachers with independent training to learn the PMM application (Platform Merdeka Mengajar), h) carrying out evaluations once a quarter, and i) coordinating facilities, infrastructure, and the needs of teachers and students. Based on these findings, elementary schools that encounter obstacles in developing the independent curriculum, especially in the teacher aspect, should be able to make the abovementioned efforts to allow optimal implementation of the independent curriculum.
