Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate the strategic role of academic supervision played by principals in encouraging teacher creativity and innovation. This study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of fifteen scientific articles from 2021 to 2025. The results showed that planned, professional, and needs-based academic supervision can improve teacher motivation and professionalism, as well as their ability to create innovative and creative learning. Supervision approaches such as coaching, transformational, collaborative, and clinical have proven effective in helping teachers create learning methods that are in accordance with the times. However, limitations of time, facilities, and teacher readiness hinder the implementation of supervision. Therefore, policies and ongoing training that support principals to improve their capacity as educational controllers are needed. It is hoped that this study will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on how to create a school culture that supports innovation and learning quality. Findings inform policy design for principal training programs.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at MAN Gunungsitoli City, including the challenges faced and the efforts made to overcome them. The Independent Curriculum is an educational innovation that emphasizes project-based learning, differentiation, and strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for curriculum, teachers, and students. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at MAN Gunungsitoli City has gone quite well, although there are still some challenges. The most prominent achievement is the implementation of differentiated learning and project-based activities that strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile, which has increased student engagement and creativity. In addition, teachers have begun to integrate local wisdom values into project-based learning. The unequal understanding of the core principles of the Independent Curriculum is also a significant challenge. Efforts to overcome these problems are by conducting collaborative internal training, forming teacher learning communities, and strengthening curriculum management at the school level. The consistency of the principal’s involvement in providing supervision and motivation is also a major supporting factor in curriculum implementation. The results of the study concluded that, although the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum has not been fully optimal, MAN Gunungsitoli City has shown a strong commitment to adapting to this new learning paradigm. Recommendations are addressed to the school and the Ministry of Religion to strengthen support in terms of facilities, teacher training, and regular monitoring and evaluation in order to achieve more holistic and contextual educational goals.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of gender and learning interest (cognitive [CI] and emotional [EI]) on high school students' conceptual understanding of Work and Energy in physics. A quantitative correlation design was employed with 64 students. A 21-item conceptual test and a 16-item Likert-scale interest questionnaire (7 CI, 9 EI) were administered. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test (gender), and Spearman correlation (interest). Only 28% of students fully understood the concepts, while 42% did not. No gender differences were found, but interest significantly correlated with conceptual understanding (*r* = 0.36, *p* < 0.05). Conclusion: Interest, not gender, predicts conceptual understanding in physics. The study uniquely integrates cognitive and emotional interest dimensions while assessing gender effects. Physics instruction should enhance interest through real-life contexts to improve engagement and learning. Provides empirical evidence that fostering student interest is crucial for conceptual mastery in physics.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of population, GDP per capita, primary energy intensity, and the renewable energy mix on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the energy sector across ASEAN countries. A panel data regression analysis was conducted using the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) on annual data from ten ASEAN nations over the period 2000–2020. Robust standard errors clustered by country were applied to address issues of autocorrelation and heteroscedasticity. The results reveal that population growth and higher primary energy intensity are significantly associated with increased GHG emissions, while GDP per capita and the renewable energy mix do not show statistically significant effects. These findings indicate that energy efficiency and demographic trends are key drivers of emissions in the region. The novelty of this study lies in its use of panel econometrics to comprehensively assess multiple variables simultaneously within the context of ASEAN’s energy sector, an area underrepresented in previous research. Practically, the results underscore the need for targeted energy efficiency improvements and integrated population-energy planning in policy formulation. This study contributes empirically to the discourse on sustainable energy transition and provides evidence-based insights for developing climate mitigation strategies tailored to the ASEAN context.

Abstract

In elementary PKn Education, traditional teacher-centered approaches often limit student engagement and hinder learning outcomes. To address this, interactive teaching strategies such as the Question-and-Answer (Q&A) method have gained attention for their potential to enhance conceptual understanding and student participation. This study aims to systematically review existing literature to evaluate the impact of the Q&A method on student learning outcomes in elementary PKn Education classes. Using a quantitative approach within the framework of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), the research analyses relevant studies that explore the application of the Q&A method in primary school PKn Education. The review focuses on student engagement, conceptual understanding, and academic performance. The findings reveal that the Q&A method significantly enhances student involvement, supports deeper understanding of PKn concepts, and leads to improved academic achievement. The method fosters a more dynamic and participatory classroom environment, which positively affects learning outcomes. This systematic review highlights the effectiveness of the Q&A method as a student-centred instructional strategy in PKn Education at the elementary level. It underscores the need for educators to adopt interactive teaching techniques to improve student learning, and provides a foundation for future research and practice in the field.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of group counselling services in improving students’ problem-solving skills within the environment of the Islamic Centre Foundation of North Sumatra. The background of this research is based on preliminary findings indicating that some students experience difficulties in addressing and resolving problems they encounter, both in school and in daily life. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, allowing the researcher to deeply observe the counselling intervention process in its natural context. The research subjects consisted of several students selected purposively based on initial assessments that revealed low levels of problem-solving skills. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, carried out continuously over six group counselling sessions. Each session was designed to guide students in systematically identifying problems, exploring alternative solutions, considering the consequences of each option, and making rational and responsible decisions. The findings of the study show a significant improvement in key aspects of students’ problem-solving skills, as reflected in changes in their attitudes and behaviours when facing problematic situations at school and at home. These results reinforce the view that group counselling can serve as an effective intervention strategy to help students develop critical thinking abilities and adaptive social skills. Based on these findings, it is recommended that schools and educational institutions integrate group counselling services into their student development programs, particularly in fostering life skills. Furthermore, school counsellors are encouraged to design structured, student-centred counselling sessions to enhance the effectiveness of the services provided.

Abstract

This study was conducted on first-grade students at State Elementary School 101873 with the aim of identifying the strategies implemented by the school to improve students’ reading skills. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method designed through a Pre-test-Post-test Control Group Design. In this design, the students were divided into two groups: the experimental group, which received instruction using picture flashcards, and the control group, which received instruction through conventional teaching methods. Sampling was carried out using a random sampling technique. Standardized research instruments, such as reading tests and direct observation, were utilized. To assess changes or improvements in reading ability, both pre-test and post-test were administered. The data from the pre-test and post-test were analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of using picture flashcards in reading instruction. The results of the paired sample correlation test showed a significant relationship between pre-test and post-test scores in both the experimental and control groups, with significance values of 0.26 and 0.00, respectively. A significance value greater than 0.00 indicates a meaningful correlation between the pre-test and post-test results in both groups. Furthermore, a normality test was conducted on the pre-test and post-test data to ensure that the data followed a normal distribution. In the experimental group, the significance values were 0.638 for the pre-test and 0.320 for the post-test, indicating that the data were normally distributed. Similarly, in the control group, the significance values were 0.072 for the pre-test and 0.129 for the post-test, also confirming a normal distribution of the data. Thus, this study provides empirical evidence that the use of picture flashcards has the potential to serve as an effective strategy for improving reading skills among elementary school students.
