Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase public understanding of the implementation of road pavement work in the Lumpangi-Loksado Road Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project, South Hulu Sungai Regency. This program is motivated by the importance of increasing public knowledge of the stages of road construction, the use of materials and equipment, quality control, and work safety so that it can support the success of infrastructure development and increase community participation in maintaining roads that have been built. The implementation method uses a participatory, technical, and collaborative approach through field observation, material delivery, technical assistance, discussion, documentation, and evaluation. The results of the activity show that the community has gained a better understanding of the stages of road pavement work according to technical standards, the importance of using the right working methods, the function of construction equipment, and quality control to produce strong, safe, and comfortable roads. In addition, this activity increases public awareness of the importance of maintaining road infrastructure to support the sustainability of road functions as a means of transportation. The implementation of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Lumpangi-Loksado Road also provides benefits in improving accessibility, mobility, road user safety, and supporting economic and tourism activities in the region.

Abstract

Cilengkrang Village in Sumedang Regency boasts natural tourism attractions such as Cakrabuana Waterfall and a local UMKM product, Jamparing Coffee. However, its development has been hindered by a lack of appealing facilities, insufficient signage, and traditional marketing strategies. This community service program, conducted through the Student Community Service (KKN) initiative, aims to maximize natural tourism potential and expand market reach for the local MSME by leveraging digital technology. A descriptive-qualitative methodology was employed, encompassing stages such as observation, interviews, partnership collaboration, field implementation, and outcome evaluation. The findings indicate that: (1) an aesthetic, nature-themed photo spot was established at Cakrabuana Waterfall to create an "Instagrammable" attraction; (2) directional signage was installed at strategic locations to improve accessibility and visitor convenience; and (3) a creative promotional video utilizing a storytelling approach was produced and published on Instagram and TikTok for Jamparing Coffee. The program successfully attracted greater attention to the destination, facilitated visitor navigation, and strengthened brand awareness for the local product. This initiative concludes that integrating physical facility improvements with digital promotion can foster sustainable village economic growth through active community engagement.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus pose serious health threats, yet awareness and early detection in rural communities remain low. In Cilengkrang Village, limited access to preventive services leads to underdiagnosed chronic conditions. This community service program aimed to enhance health knowledge and facilitate direct health screening for residents. Using a promotive-preventive approach, the team integrated interactive health education on hypertension and diabetes with a free health screening covering anthropometry, blood pressure, and random blood glucose (RBG) tests for 49 participants. The findings revealed a high prevalence of hypertension at 59.18% (29 participants) and indicated hyperglycemia in 10.20% (5 participants with RBG ≥ 200 mg/dL), with several individuals discovering their conditions for the first time. These results highlight the crucial role of community service programs in early NCD detection. Ultimately, this activity provides a strategic foundation for local village authorities and health personnel to establish routine screenings, train village health cadres, and foster sustainable healthy lifestyle habits.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is an important aspect of English learning because it supports the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. However, English vocabulary learning at the elementary school level still faces several challenges, including teacher-centered instruction, limited use of learning media, and insufficient student participation. This community service activity aimed to implement a multimodal learning model integrating Cooperative Learning, Total Physical Response (TPR), and visual media in English vocabulary learning for elementary school students. The activity was conducted at SD Negeri 2 Regol, Garut Regency, involving fifth-grade students. The implementation consisted of four stages: preparation, learning implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The learning activities focused on Parts of the Bodythrough vocabulary presentation using visual media, Listen and Do activities based on TPR, Grab the Picture Game, and simple speaking practice. The observation results showed that the multimodal learning activities supported an active and interactive learning environment. Students demonstrated enthusiasm in participating in movement-based activities, group work, and the use of English vocabulary during the activities. Based on the implementation of the activity, the integration of Cooperative Learning, TPR, and visual media can serve as an alternative approach for contextual English vocabulary learning that is appropriate for elementary school students.

Abstract

The involvement of academics in regional development planning is a tangible implementation of the university's community service mission under the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This community service activity aimed to strengthen regional infrastructure development planning through the role of academics as resource persons and technical reviewers in the Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) Forum of Gunungsitoli City for the 2027 planning year. The activity employed a participatory assistance approach by providing technical input, evaluation, and recommendations on development programs proposed by Regional Government Organizations (Organisasi Perangkat Daerah/OPD). The implementation consisted of four stages: preparation, forum implementation, technical recommendation delivery, and evaluation. The results demonstrated that academic participation contributed positively to improving the quality of regional planning documents, particularly in road infrastructure, drainage systems, clean water supply, solid waste management, public building development, disaster risk mitigation, and sustainable infrastructure planning. Interactive discussions between academics and local government agencies generated evidence-based technical recommendations that were considered in refining the 2027 RKPD. Furthermore, the activity strengthened collaboration between higher education institutions and the Government of Gunungsitoli City in promoting participatory, evidence-based, and community-oriented development planning. Therefore, the role of academics as technical reviewers in the Regional Government Work Plan Forum proved effective in enhancing the quality of regional development planning and supporting sustainable, resilient, and efficient infrastructure development.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to implement civil engineering expertise through the preparation of a building floor plan for BNKP Hosiana Church in Gunungsitoli City as a technical document to support the planning and development of worship facilities. The partner's main problem was the absence of a systematically documented floor plan, which hindered renovation planning, building development, and the preparation of technical construction documents. The activity employed a participatory approach consisting of coordination with the partner, field surveys, building measurements, data processing, floor plan preparation using AutoCAD software, validation with the church management, and submission of the final technical document. The results demonstrated that an accurate floor plan reflecting the existing building conditions was successfully produced and validated by the church administrators. The document serves as a reference for future renovation planning, building expansion, construction documentation, and systematic building asset management. In addition to producing a technical drawing, the activity improved the partner's understanding of the importance of technical planning documents in supporting effective, efficient, and sustainable building development. This community service demonstrates that the application of civil engineering knowledge can provide practical solutions to community needs through the provision of high-quality technical planning documents.

Abstract

School laboratories are essential for developing science process skills; however, their use must be accompanied by consistent occupational safety and health practices. This community service program aimed to improve students’ understanding and awareness of laboratory safety culture at SMA IT Insan Mulia Boarding School Pringsewu. The program involved coordination with the partner school, preparation of training materials and evaluation instruments, and an interactive training session on 14 April 2026. The materials covered basic laboratory safety, the 5R principles, hazard identification, simple risk assessment, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Evaluation was conducted descriptively by comparing the mean pre-test and post-test scores and observing participant engagement. The mean score increased from 86.60 to 90.50, representing a 3.90-point or 4.50% improvement. Participants also engaged actively in case discussions and demonstrated a better understanding of safe work behaviour. The school’s support in providing the venue, participants, and documentation strengthened implementation. The training offers an initial foundation for integrating safe working habits into routine school laboratory activities.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve children's creativity and fine motor skills through an ecoprint workshop using natural materials in Dusun Cisampih Jatigede District Sumedang Regency. The activity was designed as participatory training consisting of preparation socialization demonstration practice mentoring and evaluation. Participants were 19 elementary and junior high school students from Dusun Cisampih. Data were obtained through observation of participant involvement assessment of the ecoprint products and question and answer sessions after the workshop. The activity was implemented smoothly and participants showed good enthusiasm throughout the program. Most participants were able to understand the instructions and complete each stage of the ecoprint process independently with guidance from the facilitators. The workshop encouraged creativity through motif design and discussion of product utilization while also improving fine motor skills through activities requiring accuracy patience and hand eye coordination. Group based implementation and intensive mentoring supported the learning process and helped maintain participant engagement. Overall the ecoprint workshop proved to be an effective educational activity that utilized local natural resources while fostering creativity fine motor development and environmental awareness among children.
