Abstract

Betadin leaf (Jatropha multifida L.) is an ornamental plant in Indonesia and is rarely used, but its leaf sap has been reported to accelerate wound healing due to skin infections. This has the potential to be used for the development of new antimicrobial agents. The extraction method was carried out by maceration using 96% ethanol and fractionation with ethyl acetate. Extracts and fractions analyzed for the presence of various phytochemical constituents. Antibacterial assay used disc diffusion (Kirby-Bauer's) method towards Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum. Ethanol extract of Betadin leaves contained Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Phenolics, Steroids, Terpenes, Saponins, while the ethyl acetate fraction contained Alkaloids, Phenolics, Terpenes. J. multifida leaf ethanol extract has strong activity towards Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum, and has weak activity towards Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Corynebacterium diphtheriae. While J. multifida leaf ethyl acetate fraction has strong activity towards Propionibacterium acnes, Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum, and has weak activity towards Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Based on the results of this study can be concluded that both the ethanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction of Betadin leaves (Jatropha multifida L.) had the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, then can be antimicrobial candidate of herbal medicine

Abstract

The high use of antibiotics can trigger resistance. Currently, people often make mistakes in obtaining, using, storing and disposing of drugs properly. This is one of the consequences of the lack of accurate information and the very low level of public education. Providing education on the use of antibiotics is important so that patients get maximum drug effectiveness and prevent resistance. This study aims to determine the effect of leaflets on patient knowledge about DAGUSIBU (Get, Use, Store, Discard) antibiotics at Sungai Ulin Public Health Center, Banjarbaru City. The type of research used was a pre-experiment with a one group pretest–post test research design. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique on 87 respondents. The pretest was given before education and the posttest was given 2 weeks after education. From the research results, the average value of the patient's pretest knowledge was 65.99% and the posttest was 87.83%. The statistical test method used was the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with an Asymp. Sig 2 tailed result of 0.000. This shows a significance value of <0.05, which means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted, where there is a significant difference in knowledge between before and after the intervention was given through leaflet media.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks second in diabetes mellitus with 20.4 million sufferers in 2024 and will increase to 28.5 million in 2025. This condition shows the urgency of finding new alternative antidiabetic candidates that can help reduce the number of sufferers. Landep leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, and phenolics, which have potential as antidiabetic agents. This study aims to determine the effect of landep leaf extract administration on postprandial blood glucose levels and histopathological improvements in the pancreas in alloxan-induced rats. This experimental study used 25 alloxan-induced rats divided into 5 groups: negative control (CMC-Na 1%), positive control (Metformin 9 mg/200g rat body weight), and landep leaf extract at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight. Treatment was administered for 14 days. Data analysis was performed using SPSS with ANOVA. The results showed that landep leaf extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg BW had a significant effect on reducing postprandial blood glucose spikes (p=0.634) compared to the positive control metformin, as well as a significant effect on improving the area of the islets of Langerhans (p=0.978) compared to the positive control. Thus, landep leaf extract has an effect on reducing postprandial blood glucose spikes and provides an improvement in the histopathology of the pancreas of alloxan-induced rats.

Abstract

Lipstick is a cosmetic used to add color to the lips. Natural dyes that can be used as a lipstick component are beet (Beta vulgaris L.) skin extract. The skin of beet contains betacyanin which can give color to the lips. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of beet skin extract on the physical properties of lipstick. There are 3 lipstick formulas used with a 1% (F1), 2% (F2), and 3% (F3) concentration of beet skin extract. The research results show that F1 is pink, F2 is red, and F3 is dark red. The entire formula has even spreadability. The pH values of F1, F2, and F3 are 4.9±0.173, 5±0.3, and 5.3±0, respectively. The melting points of F1, F2, and F3 are 50.66±1.15°C, 52.66±1.15°C, and 53.66±0.58°C, respectively. The conclusion of this study is that variations in the concentration of beet extract affect the color, pH, and melting point of lipstick but do not affect the spreadability of lipstick.

Abstract

White dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus) is a tropical fruit from a type of cactus plant that contains various powerful antioxidants. The purpose of this study was to obtain the best lotion formula containing extract of white dragon fruit based on physical evaluation. Three lotion formulas (F1, F2, F3) containing 7,5% white dragon fruit extract were prepared in this study. Physical assessment of the lotion preparation included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH determination, and viscosity evaluation. The results showed that the preparation was in the form of a liquid and homogeneous lotion with a white color and a rose odor. The pH of the preparation was around 5.2-6.5 with a viscosity between 1200-1800 cps. F3 is the best lotion formula based on physical evaluation during four weeks of storage with a composition of 7.5% white dragon fruit extract, 1% glycerin, 0.05% triethanolamine, 3% liquid paraffin, 0,3% methyl paraben, 2% dimethicone, 2% stearyl alcohol, 1.5% glycerol monostearate, 3% virgin coconut oil, 0.1% disodium edetate, 3% cetyl alcohol, 0.2% titanium dioxide, parfum qs, and aquadest ad 100%.
