Abstract

This study examines the dynamic interpretation of a hadith encouraging women to perform prayers in the innermost part of their homes, as part of the transformation of social values in contemporary Islamic society. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, this research explores how the age of the hadith and social context influence the reinterpretation of its social values. The findings reveal that the understanding of hadith is not static but evolves according to the socio-cultural developments within Muslim communities. This transformation reflects an ongoing dialogue between religious texts and dynamic social realities, significantly impacting women’s roles and positions in society. The study fills a gap in research regarding the relationship between hadith age and social value transformation, emphasizing the importance of contextual interpretation to address contemporary social challenges. The implications of this research are crucial for developing inclusive and adaptive religious education and strengthening religious literacy responsive to changing times.

Abstract

The prohibition and the views of scholars interfaith marriage in Indonesia is further strengthened by the Constitutional Court Decision Number 24/PUU-XX/2022 and the issuance of the Supreme Court Circular Letter Number 2 of 2023 which has very broad implications. Not only does it affect marriage practices, but it also has a significant impact on the marriage registration system. Interfaith marriage in Indonesia also presents a number of complex legal problems for children born from such marriages. Children in these marriages often do not receive adequate legal protection because of the marriage so that they only have a civil relationship with their mother. In the legal context, children often face uncertainty regarding their legal status and legitimacy, because interfaith marriages in Indonesia are not recognized by the state. In terms of custody, if a divorce occurs, several problems arise, including to whom custody will be given. Regarding this problem, policy reform is expected because there is an urgent need for legal regulations to protect the rights of children born from interfaith marriages and provide legal justice for these children.

Abstract

Educational traditions in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play an important role in shaping students' character and improving the quality of learning. At Ma’had Tahfidh Al-Qur’an Al-Amien Prenduan Sumenep, there is a tradition of reciting Surah Ṭāhā verses 25–28 before starting lessons. This prayer holds deep spiritual meaning, as it is the supplication of Prophet Musa asking for openness of heart and ease in delivering knowledge, Although this practice has long been part of daily routines, it has not been widely studied academically. This research aims to explore the background and impact of the tradition on the teaching and learning process. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving caregivers, the head of the institution, class supervisors, and students as participants, The findings show that this tradition helps improve concentration, mental readiness, and strengthens the bond between teachers and students. It carries both spiritual and educational value, making it essential to preserve within Islamic academic culture.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of living hadith through the form of hadith study sessions held at Al-Mustaqim Mosque in Bunggul Village, Tlagah, Galis, Bangkalan. The study is a community-driven initiative that began during Ramadan 2020, aimed at deepening the understanding of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, employing observation and interviews as primary data collection techniques, and documentation as secondary data. The study sessions are held regularly every Tuesday night using the wetonan method and focus on the Kutub al-Sittah, as well as on exegesis (tafsir) and theology (tawḥīd). The main hadith that serves as the foundation for the study is the Prophet’s saying about the virtues of consistent deeds. This hadith is analyzed through classical commentaries by scholars such as al-Nawawi, Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani, and al-Ghazali. The findings of this research indicate that the study sessions represent a grassroots social movement that has successfully shaped a new pattern of religious practice, despite facing social dynamics including resistance from some members of the community. In response to these challenges, the researcher formulates the research problems in relation to the activities at Al-Mustaqim Mosque, which include: the religious activities conducted at the mosque, the historical background of the study sessions, the process of the study sessions, and the analysis of hadith used in the sessions. This study is a type of field research. The strengthening of hadith legitimacy, the integration of local traditions (such as the choice of Wednesday night), and the wetonan method make this program a model of text- and context-based da'wah that effectively shapes the religious character of the community. This research shows that living hadith is not only a spiritual practice but also a means of social and cultural transformation within rural Muslim communities

Abstract

This study examines Ulumul Hadith through three main approaches in the philosophy of science ontology, epistemology, and axiology in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the nature, sources of knowledge, and practical value of hadith science in the lives of Muslims. The issue underlying this study is the necessity for a more holistic and philosophical approach to understanding hadith, considering the ongoing intellectual and socio-religious challenges. The aim of this research is to describe the existence of hadith as an object of study (ontological), the process by which hadith knowledge is scientifically acquired (epistemological), and its contribution to social life (axiological). This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach by analyzing various classical and contemporary references related to hadith science and the philosophy of science. The findings show that from an ontological perspective, hadith holds a position as an authentic source of Islamic teachings originating from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Epistemologically, hadith is accepted through a rigorous transmission system to preserve the authenticity of its content. From an axiological standpoint, hadith serves not only as a legal source but also plays a vital role in the moral and spiritual development of Muslims. The conclusion of this study asserts that the integration of ontological, epistemological, and axiological aspects in Ulumul Hadith is essential to develop a relevant and contextual understanding of hadith amid the dynamics of modern life.

Abstract

Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic law after the Qur'an, making its authenticity critically important. This paper explores the four main categories in hadith classification: sahih (authentic), hasan (good), daif (weak), and mauḍū’ (fabricated), focusing on their definitions, distinguishing features, and implications for religious practice. Sahih and hasan hadiths are considered maqbul (accepted) and can be used as sources of Islamic legal rulings, while daif and mauḍū’ hadiths are categorized as mardud (rejected), though some scholars allow conditional use of weak hadiths in non-legal contexts. The author highlights varying scholarly perspectives, both classical and contemporary, on evaluating the reliability of narrators (sanad) and the content (matan) of hadiths. Particular attention is given to the debate over using weak hadiths for virtues of deeds (fadhā’il al-a‘māl) and the consensus on the prohibition of fabricated hadiths in all aspects of religious life. Employing a descriptive-qualitative analytical approach, this paper emphasizes the necessity for critical literacy among Muslims in recognizing and applying valid hadiths, especially in the digital era prone to widespread misinformation. The study encourages a deeper engagement with mustalah al-hadith (hadith terminology and methodology) as an intellectual and spiritual responsibility, aiming to support the integrity of Islamic teachings through verified prophetic traditions.

Abstract

Modern life, which is full of materialism and hedonism, has caused a crisis of meaning in life, moral degradation, and a weakening of spiritual character in society. This study aims to examine the role of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, especially the concept of zuhud, in building the spiritual character of Muslims amid the challenges of the times. This research employs a qualitative approach using thematic hadith analysis and grounded theory, with primary data sourced from digital hadith collections and secondary literature from books and scientific journals. The results of the study indicate that spiritual character is the main foundation for the formation of morality, ethics, and inner peace in individuals. The concept of zuhud in the Prophet's hadith does not teach total rejection of the world, but rather emphasizes self-control from excessive love of material things and prioritizes the values of the hereafter. Zuhud values such as simplicity, contentment, and orientation toward the hereafter have proven relevant in shaping an integrity-based personality, strengthening social empathy, and enhancing decision-making quality grounded in Islamic teachings. Thus, the implementation of zuhud values through an understanding of the Prophet's hadith serves as a strategic solution in building a strong and harmonious spiritual character in the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines the development of Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) in India and Pakistan, focusing on the Islamic scholarly traditions that have evolved in these regions. Employing a qualitative research method with literature review and text analysis, the study explores the characteristics, socio-cultural contexts, and intellectual dynamics within the tafsir traditions of South Asia. Findings reveal that tafsir in India predominantly emphasizes spiritual and Sufi approaches, whereas in Pakistan, tafsir development centers on legal and social aspects influenced by Islamic reformist movements. The advancement of digital technology has further expanded access and enriched scholarly dialogue on tafsir in both countries. This research also identifies a significant academic gap regarding comprehensive studies on Qur’anic exegesis in this region, highlighting the need for further in-depth investigation to enhance understanding of South Asian Islamic scholarship. The findings contribute valuable insights to the broader corpus of Qur’anic interpretation and support inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue in the contemporary era

Abstract

Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic law after the Qur'an, making its authenticity and accuracy essential. This paper examines the transmission techniques used by classical scholars to ensure the originality and credibility of the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings. It explores the definition of hadith transmission, qualifications of transmitters—including justice (‘adālah), precision (ḍabṭ), and connected chains (ittisāl al-sanad)—and the two main methods of narration: verbatim (lafẓan) and by meaning (ma’nan). It also details eight methods of receiving and delivering hadith (al-taḥammul wa al-adā’), such as listening, reading, authorization (ijāzah), handover (munāwalah), written communication (mukātabah), notification (‘ilām), bequeathing (waṣiyyah), and discovery (wijādah). This study is vital in preserving the authenticity of Islamic teachings and preventing distortions

Abstract

Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to prolonged stress, which is common in students and workers. One relevant approach to overcome it is the Islamic coping mechanism, which is a psychological recovery strategy based on Islamic spiritual values. This study aims to examine the form of Islamic coping mechanism in dealing with burnout based on the interpretation of Surah Al-Insyirah in the perspective of the interpretation of Fī Ẓilal Al-Qur'an by Sayyid Qutb. This study uses a qualitative method with a psychological approach through literature study. The analysis focuses on verses in Surah Al-Insyirah that are relevant to the Solution to handling burnout. The results of the study concluded three main strategies offered by the Qur'an: (1) believing that every difficulty is accompanied by ease (QS. Al-Insyirah: 5-6), (2) continuing activities after completing tasks (QS. Al-Insyirah: 7), and (3) surrendering completely to Allah as a source of inner peace (QS. Al-Insyirah: 8). This shows that Surah Al-Insyirah contains spiritual coping values that can act as a recovery mechanism against burnout as a whole, especially in the context of modern life that is full of stress.
