Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the competence of Guidance and Counseling students in premarital counseling based on the integration of psychology and Islamic values ​​for Generation Z (Gen-Z). The background is based on BPS data (2023), which shows 60% of divorces occur in couples under 30, as well as research from the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Research and Development Center (Puslitbang Kemenag) (2022), which identified a lack of understanding of premarital relationships as a major cause of young household failure. The methods used include: (1) Interactive talkshow with multidisciplinary speakers (BK lecturers, psychologists, Islamic marriage practitioners), (2) Role-play simulation based on Islamic Conflict Resolution, (3) Digital platform (Slido, animated video of the story of the Prophet-Khadijah) to increase Gen-Z engagement, (4) Workshop on preparing a sharia premarital checklist. The results show that: 1) Increased understanding of the concept of mawaddah wa rahmah from 45% (pre-test) to 88% (post-test), 2) 82% of BK students were able to design integrative premarital counseling scenarios and 95% of participants considered the interactive method more effective than conventional seminars, 3) Supporting factors include institutional support and suitability of the material to the character of Gen-Z (short visual content 10-15 minutes). The main obstacles were limited discussion time (25% of participants proposed a longer duration) and the sensitivity of topics such as financial infidelity (15% of participants). The implemented solutions included online counseling services via Google Meet and collaboration with the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) for sensitive topics. This program produced the following outputs: 1) A Gen-Z premarital counseling module, 2) An integrative psychology-Islamic guidebook, 3) Educational YouTube videos and scientific publications. Practical implications include recommendations for: 1) Development of digital content (TikTok/Instagram Reels), 2) Certification of premarital counselors with the KUA, 3) Replication of the program through the National HIMA BK network.

Abstract

This community service program aims to implement geometry learning based on the Batak traditional house (Rumah Bolon) to improve numeracy skills among elementary school students. The program was carried out through teacher training, classroom implementation, and evaluation stages at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Padangsidimpuan. A quantitative approach was applied using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure students’ numeracy improvement. The results showed 34% increase in students’ numeracy ability and a significant enhancement in teachers’ understanding of contextual, culture-based learning. The integration of Batak cultural values, especially Rumah Bolon geometry, was proven to make learning more meaningful and enjoyable.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to strengthen Basic Qur’anic literacy and its Islamic values among children at Surau Wang Ulu, Perlis, Malaysia. The initiative combined structured Qur’an teaching sessions, value-based storytelling, and participatory activities involving students of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia and local children. Using direct method or recitation practice to comprehend values beyond the surah. The findings highlight the surau’s role as a vital institution for early religious education and character formation, while also offering a replicable model for similar communities across children Islamic values acquisition.

Abstract

Basic literacy skills are fundamental in developing high-quality human resources from an early age. However, many children in Padangsidimpuan still face difficulties in recognizing letters, reading syllables, and understanding simple texts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of basic literacy training through a community-based education program in improving children’s early literacy abilities. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The subjects consisted of 20 children who participated in four sessions of literacy training. Data were collected through literacy tests covering letter recognition, syllable reading, and comprehension of short texts. The data were analyzed by comparing the pretest and post-test results. The findings show a significant improvement in all aspects of basic literacy. The average pretest score of 56 increased to 82 in the post-test. Children also demonstrated higher learning motivation, engagement, and self-confidence throughout the program. The community-based education approach successfully created a fun, meaningful, and participatory learning environment, making it a promising solution to the low literacy skills among children in the area. In conclusion, basic literacy training through community education programs is effective in supporting the development of early reading skills in children and is feasible to be replicated in other communities. This study highlights the importance of collaboration between the community, parents, and educators in realizing an intelligent young generation in Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

This training was provided to the teachers of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Padangsidimpuan, consisting of 20 teachers. The training took place in the SMA Negeri 1 Padamgsidimpuan Hall. The aim of this training was to address the common problem faced by most teachers, namely the difficulty in managing classrooms with diverse students. The Star Teacher training offered extensive classroom management practice through the BAM strategy (Belajar Asyik Menyenangkan). The focus of BAM is to provide teachers with theories and practical activities to help them understand student characteristics through five aspects: (1) Family Characteristics, (2) Personality, (3) Dominant Learning Style, (4) Ice Breaking, and (5) Cognitive Tests. The results of this training showed an improvement in teachers’ understanding of classroom management in dealing with diverse students through the practical stages of the BAM strategy. With this understanding, teachers will continue to be trained to become Star Teacher, beloved by their students so that the learning process becomes something students look forward to.

Abstract

Tujuan: Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi Al-Qur'an dan prestasi akademik anak-anak di Desa Simatorkis, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan. Program ini mengatasi keterbatasan akses pendidikan agama dan akademik yang berkualitas di daerah pedesaan, khususnya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan anak-anak untuk membaca Al-Qur'an dengan benar dan meningkatkan pemahaman mereka terhadap mata pelajaran umum. Metode: Program ini dilaksanakan selama 8 minggu melalui dua kegiatan utama: pengajaran membaca Al-Qur'an (Iqra dan Al-Qur'an) dan bimbingan belajar akademik untuk siswa sekolah dasar dan menengah pertama. Metode pengajaran meliputi pembelajaran tatap muka, pembelajaran sebaya, dan bimbingan individu. Penilaian pra-tes dan pasca-tes dilakukan untuk mengukur peningkatan kelancaran membaca Al-Qur'an dan prestasi akademik di bidang Matematika, Sains, dan Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil: Program ini berhasil melibatkan 15 anak usia 6-15 tahun. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan kelancaran membaca Al-Qur'an sebesar 75%, dengan peserta mencapai rata-rata 2-3 tingkat Iqra. Prestasi akademik meningkat sebesar 68% dalam Matematika, 72% dalam Sains, dan 65% dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Orang tua melaporkan peningkatan motivasi dan kebiasaan belajar anak-anak. Kesimpulan: Pendekatan terpadu pendidikan agama dan akademik secara efektif meningkatkan kompetensi anak di kedua bidang tersebut. Program ini menunjukkan pentingnya intervensi pendidikan berbasis masyarakat di daerah pedesaan. Program berkelanjutan dengan melibatkan masyarakat direkomendasikan untuk mempertahankan peningkatan pendidikan jangka panjang.
