Abstract

Measuring Mathematical Literacy Skills of Indonesian Junior High School Students in Solving PISA-Like Problems. Objective: In the current digital era, students’ mathematical literacy skills are important for every student. This study aims to measure junior high school students’ mathematical literacy skills in solving PISA-like problems and to analyze the primary elements contributing to students' challenges in solving mathematical literacy PISA-like problems oriented to the PISA framework. Methods: This research uses a qualitative method with a case study design. The subjects are 25 grade-ninth students selected by purposive sampling. Data collection used mathematical literacy tests, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Data triangulation was also used to verify data validity by comparing test results and interviews to confirm the validity of the data obtained. Findings: The primary elements contributing to students' challenges in addressing PISA-like-oriented mathematical literacy difficulties are a lack of familiarity with mathematical literacy questions, and classroom instruction not focused on contextual learning. These issues indicate that students lack exposure to real-world applications of mathematical concepts, which are crucial in developing problem-solving skills. Additionally, the absence of contextual learning means that students are not provided with opportunities to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve practical, everyday problems. Conclusion: Students’ competency in addressing PISA-like problems related to four contents was low. According to the indicators of mathematical literacy, sixty percent of students could effectively formulate the contextual situation of the problem concerning the quantity of material at levels 1 and 2. Meanwhile, other indicators “employed and interpreted” on shape and space content, data and uncertainty, and change and relationship at levels 3 up to 6 are still in the low category.        Keywords: mathematical literacy, PISA-like problems,  PISA framework, junior high school.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1259-1272

Abstract

Abstract: Critical thinking is one of the 4C competencies that is important for students to master to support their success in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of the project based learning (PjBL) model on students' critical thinking skills. The method used is purposive sampling. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design (pre-test and post-test). The average results of the two samples are known through the independent sample t-test. The difference in critical thinking skills scores between the control class and the experimental class will be known through a parametric independent sample t-test with a sig value. > 0.05 which means homogeneous. If tcount > table resulting from the right-sided t-test then it can be said that HO is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning the learning model used in the experimental class has a significant influence. In the research that has been carried out, it is known that the project based learning (PjBL) model has a significant effect on students' critical thinking skills, which is known through the difference in the average scores of the control class and the experimental class. Keywords: critical thinking skills, learning model, PjBL model. Abstrak: Berpikir kritis menjadi salah satu kompetensi 4C yang penting untuk dikuasai peserta didik agar menunjang keberhasilannya dalam proses pembelajaran. Abstract

Academic resilience helps students overcome learning challenges and stay motivated in understanding complex biology materials. Computational thinking skills enable students to break down complex biology problems logically and structured, while the use of multirepresentations such as diagrams and graphs facilitates the understanding of abstract concepts. Biological literacy has a very important urgency for students because it plays a role in equipping them with the ability to understand, analyze, and apply biological concepts in everyday life. In the era of globalization and rapid development of science, biological literacy is an important basis for making intelligent decisions, especially related to environmental, health, and sustainability issues. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of academic resilience on the biological literacy of students by means of computational thinking and multirepresentations. It is hypothesized that students' capacity to surmount intricate biology learning obstacles is enhanced by their high academic resilience. This study examines the correlation between academic resilience, computational thinking, multirepresentations, and biological literacy in high school pupils in Mataram City, Indonesia, utilizing quantitative methods and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. The findings indicated that academic resilience has a substantial impact on the biological literacy of students (p < 0.05), both directly and through the mediation of computational thinking abilities and the use of multirepresentations. Computational thinking assists students in the deconstruction of intricate biological problems, while multirepresentations, such as diagrams and graphs, facilitate comprehension of abstract biological concepts. This study underscores the significance of fostering academic resilience, computational thinking, and visual representations in order to enhance students' biological literacy, thereby facilitating the development of more effective and adaptive biology learning strategies.      Keywords: academic resilience, biology literacy, computational thinking, multirepresentation, students.
