Abstract

English speaking skills are an important aspect for Vocational High School (SMK) students to be better prepared to face the challenges of the world of work. However, many students experience problems in pronunciation, fluency, and confidence when speaking. This service program aims to improve students' speaking skills by utilizing an artificial intelligence-based application, ELSA Speak. This activity was carried out at SMK Telkom Makassar with participants from the extracurricular English Meeting Club (EMC). Participatory Action Research (PAR) method was applied in this program, which includes needs analysis, planning, training implementation, and evaluation using questionnaires. Results showed that the use of ELSA Speak had a positive impact on students' pronunciation, fluency and confidence. The majority of participants felt significant improvements in speaking, and they were more comfortable and confident in using English. Thus, artificial intelligence technology can be an innovative solution in improving vocational students' speaking skills in an effective, engaging, and easy-to-implement way in the learning process.

Abstract

The coastal community of Tegalsari Hamlet, Dukuh Kupang Village, Sidoarjo, is facing a clean water crisis due to dependence on brackish water sources with Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) reaching 6000 mg/L, which is considered very dangerous. To overcome this problem, the community service team developed a brackish water purifier based on local materials (ALPAMAL) using environmentally friendly technology. This activity uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method combined with service learning, involving the community in every stage, from identifying problems, designing the tool, to implementation and evaluation. The survey results showed that 96% of the community wanted ALPAMAL for clean water needs, and 93% were willing to maintain the tool. This program proves that simple, participation-based technology can be a sustainable solution in dealing with the air crisis in coastal areas, as well as increasing community independence in managing air resources.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the digital skills of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in online marketing, social media usage, marketplaces, and product branding. The training was conducted by inviting experts in digital marketing and branding to provide relevant materials for SMEs. The method used is Service Learning, which integrates academic theory with direct community engagement. The activity was attended by SME owners in the nugget production industry and took place at the SME location in Paninggilan. Evaluation results through pretest and posttest showed an increase in participants' knowledge, with an average gain score of 32.5%. Statistical analysis using paired t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p-value = 7.34 × 10^(-9)), indicating the effectiveness of the training in improving participants' understanding. Based on these results, it is recommended to expand this training program to more SMEs in other areas and further develop it by adding content related to the latest digital technologies. This training is expected to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs in the digital marketplace and drive a broader digital transformation in the SME sector.

Abstract

This community service aims to increase the capacity of parrot fish farmers in implementing diversification strategies and innovation of processed tilapia products. This aspect is very much needed because of the needs of farmers in facing increasingly competitive market challenges, as well as opportunities for developing more innovative and high-value tilapia-based products. In the community service in Kadubeurem Village, Padarincang, Serang Regency which was carried out on June 10th 2023, training and mentoring were provided. The implementation method includes interactive discussion sessions and practical simulations, so that participants are given insight into tilapia product diversification techniques, such as processing fishery products into ready-to-consume products. The success of this program can be seen from the achievement of participants' understanding of the material presented, the implementation of innovation by farmers, and the increase in income from product diversification. This activity also shows that tilapia farmers have been able to adopt innovative techniques in tilapia cultivation and processing, which has an impact on increasing the selling value and competitiveness of products.

Abstract

MSMEs in the Mualaf Baduy Village, Lembah Barokah, Ciboleger, have great potential in producing brown sugar, but still face challenges in terms of branding and marketing. One of the main obstacles is the packaging that is not attractive and not environmentally friendly, so it is less competitive in the wider market. This community service activity aims to provide training in packaging innovation using dried banana leaves as an environmentally friendly alternative to increase product appeal and strengthen MSME branding. The implementation method includes socialization of the importance of packaging, practice of making packaging based on dried banana leaves, and digital-based marketing assistance. The results of the activity showed an increase in partners' understanding of the importance of packaging in branding, as well as success in implementing new packaging that is more attractive and has high selling value. With this innovation, the brown sugar products of the Mualaf Baduy Village MSMEs are expected to be more competitive in the local and national markets.
