Abstract

This research raises a case study of the contemporary dance work Tale Tale by choreographer Sherli Novalinda, a contemporary work rooted in body archives and tales which is an oral tradition of the ancestors of the Kerinci community. This work combines traditional elements executed with a contemporary style to create a dialogue between dance art, design, and technology. The main focus of the research is to reconstruct the scenography from the perspective of a designer who plays a role in designing a dynamic stage space that not only supports the movements of the dancers but also reinforces the messages and emotions that the choreographer wants to convey. Using a qualitative approach and case studies, this study explores the creative process behind scenography design and the application of technology in Tale Tale's contemporary dance works. Technologies such as animation and visual projection are used as iterative elements that respond to dance movements in real-time, creating an immersive visual experience for the audience. The results of this study show that the collaboration between design, technology, and contemporary dance not only enriches the expression of movement, but also enriches the living space, where dancers and audiences are emotionally and visually involved, and can create a more interactive, deep, and meaningful art experience. This researcher emphasized that the synergy between design, technology, and contemporary dance can enrich the aesthetic dimension of performing arts. This study is expected to be a reference for the development of innovative scenography designs, as well as encourage further exploration in cross-disciplinary collaboration in the field of performing arts.

Abstract

The children's fashion industry in Indonesia has great potential but is still dominated by imported products. This constraint is the trigger for this research that aims to explore children's clothing that is high quality, comfortable to wear and utilizes traditional Balinese fabric, Endek, as well as an effort to introduce culture from an early age. The process of making children's clothing is designed through the five main stages of the Frangipani method which consists of: idea development, research, aesthetic element analysis, design sketch, and production. Making quality children's clothing requires several criteria including safety, comfort, durability, size accuracy, and cultural sensitivity to be the main focus in design development. Endek fabric was chosen as the catalyzing idea in the design of children's party wear. Endek fabric is the most common and desirable fabric in Bali because of its motif design development. Endek fabric as part of the ikat woven fabric requires special attention in the process of processing it into clothing to maintain the quality and structure of the fabric. The addition of elements such as lining and interfacing is done to increase the comfort of the clothing. This research shows that children's fashion with Endek fabric can fulfill the criteria of modern children's fashion but is able to maintain cultural values. This research provides reference and insight for children's fashion industry players in creating products that collaborate traditional aspects and modern demands so that they can compete globally.

Abstract

This study examines the semiotic meanings in the label design of Aga Rosé, a wine product by Hatten Wines, through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. It focuses on how the label's visual elements communicate cultural and branding messages. The purpose of this study is to explore the denotative and connotative meanings of the Aga Rosé wine label and how these elements contribute to brand image formation and consumer perception. This research employs a qualitative methodology, analyzing visual elements such as color, imagery, and text, which represent local cultural values, based on Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The Aga Rosé label effectively incorporates cultural symbols and aesthetics, reflecting Indonesian cultural identity. This design strengthens consumers' emotional attachment to the brand and enhances loyalty. The findings underscore the importance of culturally inspired design as a strategy for building strong brand identities in competitive markets.

Abstract

People in Buae village, Sidenreng Rappang, South Sulawesi, annually perform the Mappadendang harvest ritual to express gratitude for a successful rice harvest. This research aims to discuss the unique musical behavior of the community during the Mappadendang process, namely singing Sure' “Meong Palo Karellae”, and drumming “Lesung”. This research uses a qualitative design with an ethnomusicology approach. The author obtained research data through field observations, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the flowchart technique: data reduction, display, and conclusion/verification. The results showed that Mappadendang music performances are related to spiritual, social, and entertainment functions. Mappadendang musical performances produce musical activities based on local wisdom creativity, including 1) Massure', which is the process of singing the text of “Meong Palo Karellae” with a vocal style produced in mono melodic form, played based on the interpretation of Passure' (Lontar Reader) tones. In Lesung drumming, the rhythm of Mappadendang is related to the concept of Sulapa Eppa'. Two rhythmic patterns are found: 1) “Manganak” is a pattern played by “Indo' Padendang” (female player), resulting in a four-beat interweaving played alternately and repeatedly. 2) “Mattang” is the rhythmic pattern played by “Ambo' Padendang” (male player), who plays contrasting rhythmic patterns, tending to produce synchronized rhythmic forms. The results of this research are significant because they reflect the community's views towards the sustainability of Mappadendang. Readers will know the uniqueness of Mappadendang music performance, which can inspire the creation of new art based on local wisdom.

Abstract

Magodang is an innovative application designed for children aged 8–14, as well as their parents and educators, aiming to develop real-world skills and build student portfolios. In an increasingly competitive educational landscape, portfolios are essential for showcasing students' academic and professional journeys. However, many students, including those who are homeschooled or have special needs, face significant challenges in accessing skill development programs. Magodang addresses these barriers by connecting users with workshops, competition preparation programs, coaching sessions, and certifications through a user-friendly platform enriched with gamification features. The application provides personalized program recommendations, intuitive navigation, and collaborative tools that empower parents and educators. These features help parents identify programs aligned with their children’s interests and assist educators in integrating extracurricular activities into classroom settings. The research employs the Semantic Literature Review (SLR) method, descriptive qualitative analysis, and the Design Thinking framework to create an interactive and relevant platform. Tools such as Miro, Figma, and Google Forms are used for ideation, prototyping, and surveys. The findings demonstrate that Magodang enhances student engagement, fosters collaboration among stakeholders, and addresses gaps in traditional education systems. It provides a practical solution for early skill development, creating an inclusive and accessible educational environment for all learners.

Abstract

"Kartini" The Movie (2017) directed by Hanung Bramantyo can be considered as a work of appreciation for the struggle of women in Indonesia. Kartini as one of the Indonesian heroines who fought for women's rights in Indonesia is worthy of being called a symbol of the struggle against the marginalisation of women. The nature of a woman in the culture attached to Kartini as the daughter of noble descendants often exposes her to situations where the clash of culture and logic she has raises inner conflicts, which tends to make her considered a child who dares to break the rules in her family. Kartini's figure is not portrayed as a woman who is only silent when she is faced with a situation where her "rights" as a human being are never taken into account. However, the treatment of women that she felt at the time, made her moved to have her own strength to dare to voice what she wanted for her life and nature as a woman. The context of marginalisation that appears in the film "Kartini" is heavily influenced by cultural factors and mindsets that at that time were still very closed to providing equal space for women. Kartini's struggle in this film is depicted as having a very strong desire to fight for the marginalisation of women in that era through her intelligent thoughts. The life journey of the figure of "Kartini" in fighting for equal rights and dignity of Indonesian women is at least able to be heard to a wide audience, so that the film "Kartini" can function as a medium of education for women who are currently still experiencing injustice in the context of marginalisation, to be more courageous in fighting for the rights they should get.
