Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effect of implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) on students' creativity in physics learning. The study was conducted on eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Kediri, using a control group pretest-posttest design. The sample was selected purposively, with class XI MIPA 2 as the experimental group (receiving PjBL) and class XI MIPA 3 as the control group (receiving conventional learning). The results showed an increase in creativity in both groups, but the increase in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group. The hypothesis testing results confirmed that the PjBL model positively affects students' creativity in physics learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of a problem-based learning (PBL) model incorporating PhET Interactive Simulations on students' critical thinking skills. A quasi-experimental design, specifically an untreated control group design with pretest and posttest, was employed. The population comprised all eleventh-grade science students at SMAN 3 Mataram. Purposive sampling was used to select two classes: XI MIPA 3 as the experimental group and XI MIPA 6 as the control group. The research instrument consisted of a seven-item essay test designed to measure critical thinking skills. The instrument underwent validity, reliability, discriminating power, and difficulty level testing. Data analysis was performed using an independent samples t-test with a significance level of 5%. The results indicated a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model with PhET media effectively enhances students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

One aspect that is part of 21st century skills is scientific reasoning ability. Scientific reasoning ability is important to know because it represents a collection of skills and abilities needed to complete tasks in the process of science investigation. Therefore, scientific reasoning ability should be trained and incorporated into the science learning process. This study aims to identify and analyze the research trends of scientific reasoning ability in biology learning. This research method is descriptive and analytical. The data used in this study were obtained from Google Scholar indexed documents from 2015-2024 using Publish or Perish and Dimension.ai. The research procedure uses PRISMA guidelines. The data identified and analyzed were the type of publication, the source of publication, and the title of scientific reasoning ability research in biology learning that was widely cited. The data analysis method uses bibliometric analysis assisted by VOS viewer software. The results of the analysis showed that the trend of scientific reasoning ability research in learning biology indexed by Google Scholar from 2015 to 2024 experienced a fluctuating increase (the condition of the rise and fall of a data). Research trends with an increasing number of publications from 2015 to 2018. However, in 2019 and 2022 the research trend of scientific reasoning ability in biology learning decreased from the previous year and the research trend increased again in 2023. There are many documents in the form of book chapters, articles, edited books, monographs, preprints and proceedings that discuss research on scientific reasoning skills in learning biology. Keyword analysis shows that the most frequently occurring terms in this study include Scientific Reasoning Ability 273 times. This trend reflects the growing attention to scientific reasoning ability in scientific reasoning ability in biology learning and suggests the need for further efforts to improve research and applications in this area.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the response of teacher and students to learning device based on the cognitive conflict approach in the blended learning model. This learning device was developed to improve students' mastery of concepts and critical thinking skills. This research was carried out at SMA Negeri 6 Mataram. The learning tools developed are learning plans (RPP), learning materials, LKPD (students worksheets), and evaluation instruments. The subjects of this research were a physics teacher at SMA Negeri 6 Mataram and students in class XI MIA 4. The responses of teachers and students were part of a practical analysis. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire. Teachers and students were given questionnaires to respond to the learning tools developed. The teacher responds to the entire device while the students respond to the learning process, learning materials and LKPD that they study. The results of the analysis show that the learning tools are categorized as practical. This means that the learning tools developed can be used in learning. A more complete and detailed explanation of these results is presented in this article.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the relevance of the traditional knowledge of Pijot Village, East Lombok, with scientific concepts in the salt-making process and explore how this practice can be integrated into science education through an ethnoscience approach. The research employed a qualitative method using observation and interviews to gather in-depth data on the stages and local knowledge applied in salt production. The findings reveal that the salt-making process, including evaporation and crystallization, aligns with scientific concepts of phase changes. The use of solar energy in evaporation also reflects renewable energy concepts taught in science education. Integrating ethnoscience into science lessons helps students understand scientific concepts contextually and meaningfully, enhancing both science literacy and creative thinking skills. However, the implementation of ethnoscience faces challenges, such as limited learning media and teachers' understanding of the approach. Therefore, teacher training and the development of ethnoscience-based student worksheets (LKPD) are essential to facilitate learning. The study’s findings are expected to promote curriculum development that links scientific concepts with local culture, enabling students to better apply their knowledge in real-life contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of traditional knowledge and scientific science in the process of making keris in Sakra Village, East Lombok. Keris, as a symbol of Sasak culture, is made using traditional techniques involving scientific concepts such as alloys, thermal expansion, and plastic deformation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results show that the traditional technique of making keris can be explained scientifically and is relevant to ethnoscience-based learning. This approach improves science literacy, preserves local wisdom, and develops students' creative thinking skills. The process of making keris can be used as a contextual learning medium to connect science with daily life.

Abstract

The ability of science literacy in students in Indonesia is still relatively lacking or low, which is characterized by the inability of students to use scientific knowledge, identify relevant questions, and draw conclusions based on scientific facts. This research method uses Research and Development (R&D). Some of the factors that trigger students' low science literacy are school infrastructure, learning facilities and facilities, resources in schools, and management implemented by schools. Based on the results of observations and interviews at Nurul Mujahiddin NW Penimbung Islamic Junior High School, the technology media facilities are inadequate, as a result of which the understanding of science literacy is low.  This can also be assessed through the lack of activity of students and when given questions they are unable to answer the questions asked.  The low science literacy ability with minimal facilities is what is the innovation in the creation of this learning media by utilizing items that are easy to find and get in the environment around the school. So the author is interested in raising the title "Development of Simple Submarine Learning Media Based on Simple Technology for Science Literacy of Students". With the aim that the author can help various schools that have limited technology media facilities by utilizing simple submarines as simple technology-based learning media so that they can improve science literacy in students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of Sound Wave Science in the culture of the Beleq Drum of the Sasak Tribe. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method with observation, interview, and documentation study techniques. Concept analysis is used to analyze the concept of science, especially sound wave material in the Beleq Drum Culture of the Sasak Tribe which will later be developed into a culturally integrated LKPD. The results obtained are the existence of the Science Concept, especially in the sound wave material in the Beleq drum culture of the Sasak tribe, especially when playing the Beleq drum musical instrument when the drum is beaten, it will produce sound waves that will later be heard by the human sense of hearing. This can be used as a science learning medium that is quickly understood by students because the Beleq drum culture is a culture that is often found by students and a culture that must be preserved.
