Abstract

The physical fitness level of elementary school students is a complex outcome, which depends on psychological preparation and motor skills. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hypothesis about the psychological intelligence of 11-year-old elementary school children using multiple linear regression analysis. The study sample consisted of 71 students (37% boys and 63% girls) recruited through a purposive sampling procedure. The measurements used were the psychological intelligence questionnaire, the Gross Motor Development Test-3 (TGMD-3), and the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI). Before testing the hypothesis, checking the classical assumptions showed that the residual data had a normal distribution (P = 0.200), were not multicollinear (VIF = 1.050), and were homoscedastic (Glejser test). The results of the multiple regression analysis showed that psychological intelligence and basic motor skills significantly influenced the level of physical fitness simultaneously, F = 28.042 (P = 0.000 < 0.05). Partially, the most prominent positive predictor was basic motor skills (t = 5.397, P = 0.000), indicating that high-quality movement competence significantly increases active physical engagement in children. In addition, psychological intelligence also had a significant partial positive effect on physical fitness with a t value of 2.983 (P = 0.004), proving that emotional self-regulation and stress management as important internal drivers help prevent psychological anxiety and maintain physiological resilience during strenuous testing. In conclusion, improving adolescent fitness configuration requires a paradigm shift towards a comprehensive Physical Literacy approach.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the tactical ability of male and female volleyball athletes to play based on their direct experience during training and competition. A qualitative approach with phenomenological design is used to explore the interpretation of athletes about reading the game, decision making, communication, and strategic adjustment in the match situation. There were eight participants consisting of four male athletes and four female athletes who were taken using purposive sampling technique. Selection criteria include active participation in training, minimum of three years playing experience, involvement in official competitions and willingness to be research informants. NVivo was used for data analysis, including data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing on the data gathered from semi-structured interviews, observation and documentation. The results indicated that tactical skills were affected by decision making, game reading, psychological factors, team communication, basic technique mastery, position, guarding, ball anticipation, training experience, and characteristics of playing by gender. Male athletes in terms of game character have a faster, stronger and more explosive game, while female athletes tend to play slower with longer rallies. The second group was influenced by technical and situational factors in decision making aspects. The study concluded that the tactical capabilities should be developed through an integrated training program covering technical, situational, mental, communicative and gender responsive aspects to optimize volleyball performance.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of a structured educational program on specific volleyball skills and emotion regulation among students in an experimental group. The study employed a pre-test and post-test experimental design, in which participants completed skill assessments and emotion regulation scales before and after program implementation. The intervention was designed to provide a systematic learning experience through technical explanations, guided practice, repetitive performance tasks, feedback, and skill correction. Results The average score for tactical setting skills increased from 5.250 to 7.623, straight smash from position 3 increased from 2.750 to 5.583, crosscourt smash from position 3 increased from 3.500 to 7.250, straight smash from position 4 increased from 2.333 to 5.833, crosscourt smash from position 4 increased from 4.375 to 8.125, straight smash to the middle from position 2 increased from 2.416 to 6.916, and crosscourt smash to the middle from position 2 increased from 2.750 to 7.375. Emotion regulation also increased from 52.130 in the pre-test to 71.880 in the post-test. The calculated t-values ​​ranged from 6.524 to 29.850 for skill variables and reached 9.450 for emotional regulation, with all differences statistically significant at p < 0.001. Practically, this program can be used by teachers and coaches as a structured learning model to strengthen students' technical execution, tactical readiness, emotional control, and self-confidence during volleyball learning and training activities.

Abstract

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has opened up new possibilities for transforming the nature of teaching; however, empirical data on how physical education teachers can implement and integrate GenAI into their work is still lacking. This study aims to investigate how physical education teachers adopt GenAI in their teaching practices, focusing on their perceptions, usage patterns, and experiences, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). This was conducted using open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires with 66 physical education teachers from Aceh Tengah Regency, Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh Besar Regency, and Banda Aceh City in Indonesia. The UTAUT-based questionnaire, consisting of six constructs and open-ended questions, was used to collect data. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative responses were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate positive adoption of GenAI and, in particular, behavioral intentions and performance expectations. ChatGPT, Gemini, and MetaAI were the most popular, as they are most accessible and widely known. Furthermore, this study identified a three-phase GenAI instructional integration consisting of pre-teaching activities, such as lesson planning, materials development, and assessment preparation; in-teaching activities, such as visual learning support, content organization, and the use of multimedia materials; and post-teaching activities, such as reporting, documentation, and program management. These findings suggest that GenAI is now more of a supplementary technology and has potential as an instructional and administrative tool in the teaching process.

Abstract

Research on improving shooting precision in elementary school futsal extracurricular activities is still dominated by technical training, while approaches that integrate biomotor capacity development and engineering skills through High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT) are still limited. This study aims to analyze the influence of HIFT on the shooting accuracy of students who participate in elementary school futsal extracurricular activities. The study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method through a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. Participants consisted of 22 male students who were selected using the total sampling technique. The HIFT program is carried out for eight weeks with a frequency of two exercises each week based on the principles of Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type (FITT) and progressive loads. Data were collected using a futsal precision shooting test that had been adapted and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk normality test, paired sample t-test, and effect size analysis. The results showed that the average score of shooting accuracy increased from 16.00 ± 4.65 to 21.82 ± 2.81, or an increase of 5.82 points (36.4%). The peer-samples t-test showed a significant increase (t(21) = 5.41; p < 0.001), while Cohen's value d = 1.15 showed a large effect. These findings show that HIFT is not only effective in improving  statistically precise shooting accuracy, but also provides high practical benefits through the integrated development of various biomotor components. This study provides empirical evidence that HIFT can be effectively applied to elementary school students as a training model that integrates the development of physical abilities and technical skills, so that it can be an alternative for physical education teachers and futsal coaches in designing more effective and efficient extracurricular training programs.

Abstract

Decision-making is a fundamental perceptual-cognitive skill in invasion sports, including futsal, requiring players to rapidly perceive relevant information, anticipate opponents' and teammates' movements, and select appropriate actions under spatial and temporal constraints. this study aimed to examine the effect of Small-Sided Games (SSG) on the decision-making ability of futsal extracurricular students at SMP Negeri 26 Bandung. A quantitative experimental approach employing a pretest–posttest control group design was used. Thirty students were recruited through total sampling and assigned to an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). The experimental group completed a five-week SSG program (three sessions per week), whereas the control group received conventional technique-based training. Decision-making ability was assessed using the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI) and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, independent-samples t-test, and N-Gain analyses. The results revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups following the intervention (p < 0.001), with the experimental group achieving a moderate N-Gain score (0.63). These findings indicate that SSG provides a representative learning environment that enhances player engagement and strengthens perception–action coupling through repeated exposure to dynamic game situations. Furthermore, this study extends the application of the Ecological Dynamics framework by demonstrating that representative learning design effectively enhances decision-making not only among competitive athletes but also in non-athlete junior high school students. Therefore, SSG can be recommended as an effective game-based learning approach for physical education and school-based futsal extracurricular programs.

Abstract

The effectiveness of freestyle swimming learning for beginner athletes aged 9–12 years is often hampered, especially in hand movements or strokes, body alignment, motor coordination, and breathing control. This study used a convergent parallel mixed-methods design to test the effectiveness of land training based on modified PVC pipes (paralon) in improving freestyle swimming techniques in beginner athletes. A total of 10 participants were divided into experimental and control groups. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation analyzed using NVivo 12, while quantitative data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and Cohen's d effect size. The results of the qualitative analysis identified the main obstacles to learning including body position misalignment, poor hand-foot coordination, flutter kick errors, insufficient arm thrust, inappropriate breathing patterns, and low self-confidence. Quantitatively, the experimental group experienced a significant increase in freestyle swimming performance compared to the control group (t(8) = −4.824, p = 0.001), with a very large practical effect (Cohen's d = 3.051). This finding indicates that the intervention is not only statistically significant, but also has a strong practical impact. The results of the study concluded that land training using modified PVC pipe media is an affordable, easily accessible, and highly effective teaching method for improving body position, movement coordination, breathing technique, self-confidence, and overall freestyle swimming performance in novice athletes.
