Abstract

Natural disasters not only cause physical and economic destruction but also disrupt civic engagement and political participation at the local level. However, limited scholarly attention has been given to how post-disaster political participation can be reconstructed through community-based and culturally grounded interventions. Drawing on political participation theory and the concept of political literacy, this study examines a Participatory Action Research (PAR) program conducted by lecturers and students of the Islamic Political Thought Study Program at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in Nagari Pasie Laweh, Tanah Datar Regency, following the 2024 galodo disaster. The program implemented Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with local stakeholders, political literacy training for women, and community-based anti–money politics campaigns ahead of the 2024 local elections. The findings reveal that participatory political education enhanced civic awareness, particularly among women and youth, revitalized local political discourse, and strengthened normative resistance to vote-buying practices. These outcomes indicate that community-based political literacy functions as a mechanism for post-disaster democratic recovery. The study proposes a contextual model of post-disaster political education that integrates participation, local cultural values, and democratic resilience, offering an adaptable framework for disaster-affected regions in strengthening local democracy.

Abstract

Training is a very important strategy for Cadres to increase their knowledge and skills so as to manage Integrated Healthcare Post (Posyandu) activities optimally. The main problem found among Posyandu cadres was the low level of proficiency and skills below standard. To strengthen cadre skills in Posyandu activities, it is necessary to perform Posyandu cadre training sessions through an increase in the capacity of Posyandu cadres. Activities were conducted through certain methods namely group discussion, brainstorming and demonstration regarding 25 basic skills of cadres in the health sector at Posyandu, as well as measuring and weighing practices. The results of the intervention showed an increase in cadres' knowledge level, with a mean pre-test score of 6.58 and a mean post-test score of 8.69. Furthermore, it was revealed that they were able to practice 25 basic cadre skills. An increase in the capacity of Posyandu cadres through discussion, brainstorming, demonstration along with the use of leaflet effectively could increase knowledge. Thus, it is expected to increase the frequency of training activities for Posyandu cadres in a sustainable manner by applying more varied methods.

Abstract

Utilization of biotron to improve soil properties in marginal lands: a model for empowering farmers in paya gaboh village. Paya Gaboh Village has marginal land characteristics with a predominance of inceptisol soil and low fertility levels, resulting in suboptimal agricultural productivity. This community service activity aims to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in utilizing agro-industrial waste to produce three-in-one biochar as an environmentally friendly soil conditioner. The implementation methods included counseling, training in the production of three-in-one biochar, and direct application to agricultural land. The raw materials for biochar came from agricultural waste such as bagasse, empty palm oil fruit bunches, and rice husks, which were processed through pyrolysis and activation, then enriched with liquid organic fertilizer and microbial consortia. The results of the activity showed an increase in community understanding and active participation in waste management and the application of soil conditioner technology. Three-in-one biochar has the potential to improve soil physical properties and support sustainable agriculture on marginal land.

Abstract

Abstract

This study was driven by the social problems faced by street children related to reproductive health, which contributes to sexual violence, human trafficking, premarital sex, unwanted pregnancies, and HIV/AIDS exposure. This study aimed to provide reproductive health education as a preventive measure against unsafe sexual practices among street children. The research employed a service learning approach, combining survey, observation, interviews, mini workshops, focus group discussions, Q&A sessions, and documentary filmmaking. The findings revealed increased awareness and willingness among street children to access reproductive health services and comprehensive knowledge of reproductive health. The role of peer educators and empathic social support emerged as key factors in program success. This study recommends integrating reproductive health education targeting marginalized groups into relevant university curricula as part of service learning.

Abstract

Literacy is a fundamental aspect that must be developed in students with special needs as a provision for learning processes and daily life. However, efforts to strengthen literacy in special schools still face challenges, particularly in adaptive and enjoyable teaching methods. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to improve inclusive literacy through the application of the Read Aloud method at SKH 01 Pandeglang. The program was carried out through several stages: student needs observation, individual assistance, implementation of Read Aloud, interactive discussion, and evaluation of student participation and response. A total of 15 students with special needs participated, assisted by lecturers and PGSD students. The results showed an increase in reading interest, listening skills, social interaction, and student communication during the learning process. In addition, the program provided practical inclusive education experience for students and broadened teachers' insights regarding adaptive learning strategies. In conclusion, the Read Aloud method is proven to be an effective strategy in supporting the strengthening of literacy for students with special needs and is recommended for adoption in similar educational settings.

Abstract

This community service study examines the implementation of community-based Service Learning  as  a  model  for  mentoring  the  writing  and  publication  of  scientific  articles  in reputable journals for members of the Pohon Baca Community at IAIN Curup, Bengkulu, Indonesia. The community faced a critical gap between high writing enthusiasm and limited technical competence in academic publication. Grounded in a three-stage Service Learning framework pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation  as articulated by Afandi et al the program integrated intensive workshop sessions, writing clinics, and supervised journal-submission processes. One hundred and thirty-five student participants received training in article structure, Mendeley-based reference management, Open Journal System (OJS) navigation, and SINTA/Scopus journal selection. A mixed-methods design combining  paired-sample  t-tests  with  thematic  analysis  was  used  to  assess  program outcomes. Results indicate a statistically significant improvement in scientific writing literacy (pre-test mean: 41.7; post-test mean: 73.8; increase: 77.0%; p < .001). In total, 85.9% of participants (n = 116) completed full article drafts, and eight manuscripts were successfully submitted to nationally accredited SINTA-indexed journals. The study demonstrates that Service Learning, when aligned with genuine community needs and supported by multidisciplinary academic mentoring, effectively bridges the university–community divide and  generates  measurable  scholarly  outputs.  The  model  is  recommended  for  replication across Islamic higher education institutions seeking to cultivate a sustainable publication culture through community engagement.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling in elementary schools play a crucial role in helping children understand themselves, adapt to their environment, develop learning skills, build healthy social relationships, and prevent more complex developmental problems. In practice, however, parents’ understanding of school guidance and counseling is often limited to the handling of problematic students. This condition may reduce the quality of collaboration between schools and families in supporting children’s development. This community service program aimed to improve parents’ literacy regarding the nature, functions, domains, services, and implementation of guidance and counseling in elementary schools. The program was conducted by a team of lecturers from department of Guidance and Counselling Universitas Muhamadiyah Metro for parents at SD Muhamadiyah Buya Hamka Metro. The implementation methods included partner needs identification, preparation of educational materials, interactive lectures, case discussions, parenting reflection, and participant understanding evaluation. The materials covered the definition of guidance and counseling, personal, social, learning, and career domains, as well as the functions of understanding, prevention, development, improvement, and system support through collaboration among classroom teachers, schools, parents, counselors, psychologists, and other relevant stakeholders. The results indicate that parents gained a more comprehensive understanding of guidance and counseling as a developmental service rather than merely a remedial service. Participants also demonstrated greater awareness of positive communication, learning assistance, character strengthening, early detection of children’s problems, and continuous collaboration with schools. This program contributed positively to building shared understanding between schools and families as a supportive ecosystem for the holistic development of elementary school children.

Abstract

Kalibening Village, East Lampung, is dominated by the agricultural sector with a monotonous rice and corn planting pattern that leads to decreased soil fertility, pest escalation, and dependence on chemical inputs. The majority of the harvest is sold to middlemen at low prices, and 234 families are categorized as poor families. Women Farmers Groups (KWT), which constitute 49% of the population, have potential but are hampered by a lack of knowledge and skills in organic cultivation, post-harvest processing, and digital marketing. The Agromelka Community Service Program (PkM) aims to empower KWT through training in organic melon and vegetable cultivation, the production of patented organic fertilizer (Pumakkal), diversification of processed products (organic pecel, ice cream, nuggets, juice), and digital-based agro-edu-tourism management. Implementation methods include socialization, training, intensive mentoring, and the application of technology (Venturi Injectors, IoT, screenhouses). As a result, there has been an increase in KWT capacity in production and marketing management, as evidenced by the ability to make processed products, packaging, branding, and manage educational gardens. This program contributes to SDGs 3 (Healthy Life) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), as well as supporting the university's KPI
