Abstract

Muhammadiyah has a tradition of maintaining political independence as a civil society organization, while simultaneously playing an active role in Indonesian national life. In the post-reform context, the involvement of Muhammadiyah elites in PAN presents a dialectic between the principle of organizational neutrality, the dynamics of political elites, and the practice of structural accommodation within the party. This relationship is important to examine to understand the patterns of interaction between civil society organizations and political parties in Indonesia's democratic system. This study uses a qualitative descriptive design with the aim of clarifying in depth, detail, and intensively Muhammadiyah's political activities and movements within PAN. Data are analyzed through the paradigms of civil society and political party relations. This approach is strengthened by the theory of political relations as the main framework and the theory of the relationship between religion and state as a supporting foundation. The results show that Muhammadiyah's neutral stance towards political parties, as decided at the 38th Congress in Makassar in 1971, continues to be maintained. In post-reform political practice, Muhammadiyah views PAN as a strategic partner through collaborative or participatory relations. PAN implements a structural accommodation strategy by involving Muhammadiyah cadres in the central level management of around thirty percent, as well as cultural accommodation through religious, educational and social activities that are in line with the party's Articles of Association, while simultaneously carrying out the functions of communication, political education and controlling social conflict.

Abstract

Walimatul 'urs is a form of Sunnah propagation recommended by the Prophet Muhammad SAW as an expression of gratitude for the implementation of the marriage contract. The main purpose of walimatul 'urs is to announce the marriage, strengthen ties of kinship, and build togetherness in society. Therefore, Islam permits entertainment in the implementation of walimah as long as it does not conflict with the principles of sharia. The use of Gordang Sambilan in walimatul 'urs in Panyabungan, as a traditional Mandailing musical ensemble, has sacred and symbolic value that is closely related to local identity and culture. In the context of walimah, Gordang Sambilan serves to enliven the atmosphere and express gratitude; however, its use must still be reviewed from the aspects of purpose, intention, and implementation procedures to align with Islamic teachings. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through literature review, observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through a process of reduction, presentation, and inductive drawing of conclusions based on relevant theories. Research findings indicate that the use of the Gordang Sambilan during walimatul 'urs (religious gatherings) in Panyabungan involves a number of deviations, such as summoning ancestral spirits, trance, and the consumption of alcoholic beverages by some performers. These practices contradict Islamic law, particularly the principle of monotheism, which prohibits all forms of supplication and dependence on anything other than Allah SWT.

Abstract

Strengthening religious moderation is a strategic issue in Islamic boarding school education amidst the increasing challenges of exclusive and extreme religiosity. Islamic boarding schools play a crucial role in instilling balanced, just, and tolerant Islamic values through distinctive educational traditions. Therefore, fostering moderate religious values as a central focus in religious life is crucial, especially for the younger generation living in a heterogeneous society. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical approach. The research locations included An-Noor and An-Nahl Islamic Boarding Schools in Bandar Lampung. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that strengthening religious moderation effectively occurs through a holistic, integrative, and experience-based pedagogical process. The values of tawassuṭ, tawāzun, tasāmuḥ, and al-‘adl are internalized through dialogic learning, the exemplary behavior of kiai and ustaz, and the daily culture of students. Religious moderation is not positioned as an external ideology, but rather as an actualization of classical Islamic values that have theological legitimacy in the concept of ummatan wasaṭan and the principle of justice in the Qur'an. The integration of cognitive, affective, and practical approaches encourages the transformation of students' character toward a reflective, inclusive, and socially responsible religious attitude.

Abstract

The 2024 Simultaneous Elections mark a significant dynamic in Indonesian politics, particularly regarding the strengthening role of religious authorities in shaping Muslim voter preferences. In several regions, including West Bogor District, the direction of support from Islamic scholars through the Ijtima Ulama forum has implications for the formation of diverse community political preferences. This study aims to analyze the influence of the Ijtima Ulama on voter preferences in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections in Indonesia. The study used a mixed methods design with a sequential exploratory approach, qualitative research followed by quantitative research. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews and analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and validity verification. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires from 114 respondents and analyzed using simple linear regression, t-test, and coefficient of determination (R²). The results showed that the Ijtima Ulama had a significant effect on voter preferences (t count = 16.614 > t table = 1.981; sig. 0.000 < 0.05) with a contribution of 70.9%. This finding aligns with the theory of social influence, which emphasizes the role of moral authority through mechanisms of compliance, identification, and internalization. From an Islamic perspective, this influence is reinforced by the scholarly authority of ulama, the principle of taqlid (following), and an orientation toward the welfare of the people, allowing the Ijtima Ulama to serve as both a moral and socio-political reference point in shaping voter preferences.

Abstract

The traditional wedding practices of the Ngaju Dayak still hold a strong position in the social life of the people of Antang Kalang District, including among the Muslim community. This condition presents normative issues related to the relationship between customary law and Islamic law, particularly in the context of the conformity of customary practices with sharia principles. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the forms of harmonization carried out by the Antang Kalang Muslim community in carrying out the traditional wedding customs of the Ngaju Dayak. This study uses a qualitative method with a sociological and legal anthropological approach. Data collection techniques include direct observation of traditional wedding practices and documentation studies of traditional documents used in their implementation. Data processing is carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data analysis is conducted thematically and normative-contextually. The results of the study indicate that the Muslim community of Antang Kalang has not abandoned the traditional wedding customs of the Ngaju Dayak, but rather has made adjustments through a process of selection, adaptation, and reinterpretation of traditional elements. The marriage contract is placed as the core and determinant of the validity of the marriage according to Islamic law, while the traditional wedding is carried out as a complement to social and cultural matters. This harmonization is also reflected in the use of customary marriage agreements which function as instruments of social regulation without taking over the normative authority of Islamic law.

Abstract

The relationship between religion and the state is a classic issue in social and political science studies that remains relevant amidst the dynamics of globalization and increasing religious pluralism. Globalization not only influences economic and political structures but also demands that states restructure the relationship between religion and the state to ensure religious freedom, protect minority rights, and maintain social stability and cohesion. Countries with strong religious traditions, such as Saudi Arabia, the Vatican, and Israel, tend to position religion as the primary source of legitimacy in state policy, either through theocratic patterns or religious-secular configurations. Meanwhile, multicultural countries such as Indonesia and India implement a symbiotic pattern by seeking a balance between the role of religion and the principle of pluralism. This study uses a library method with a qualitative descriptive-analytical and critical approach. Data were obtained from primary and secondary literature analyzed through a process of classification, reduction, and thematic analysis. The results show that countries with strong religious legitimacy tend to face serious challenges in managing pluralism and protecting the rights of religious minorities. Conversely, multicultural countries that adopt a symbiotic pattern are relatively more adaptive, although they still face the potential for social conflict. This finding confirms that the success of relations between religion and state is highly dependent on policies that are inclusive, democratic, and oriented towards respecting human rights.

Abstract

The spread of transnational ideology-based radicalism poses a serious challenge to the ideological resilience and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), including in Lampung Province. The Khilafatul Muslimin group is one of the religious groups that carries an alternative ideological narrative that has the potential to weaken national insight. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the process of internalizing national insight as a strategy to prevent the spread of radicalism within the Khilafatul Muslimin group in Lampung Province. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with key informants, observation, documentation studies, and relevant literature reviews. Data analysis was conducted thematically through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that internalization of national insight is effective when implemented through a persuasive, dialogical, and sustainable approach that involves state and social actors collaboratively. The integration between the socialization of state ideology and the Islamic community development approach has proven capable of building inclusive ideological awareness, strengthening ideological resilience, and encouraging the transformation of religious understanding in line with Pancasila and the NKRI. The novelty of this research lies in the findings of a model of internalization of national insight based on community participation, the role model of religious figures, and the strategic role of former members of radical groups as agents of change in preventing radicalism that is more humanistic and sustainable.
