Abstract

Indonesia's diverse society demands a tolerant attitude. However, it is a paradox in Indonesia's diverse society, the emergence of intolerant attitudes, radicalism and extremism, especially those targeting the millennial generation, is very worrying, for this reason it is necessary to build a moderate understanding. From this background, researchers are interested in examining the portrait of religious moderation based on al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan in the millennial generation in Balun Village Lamongan. Researchers used qualitative field methods with an interpretive phenomenological approach. The portrait of religious moderation based on al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan in the millennial generation in Balun Village Lamongan is divided into four aspects, namely, (1) aqidah, where they interpret it as an essential belief that should not be mixed with other beliefs and beliefs or doubts about God inter-religious community; (2) ibadah (religious), where they tolerate each other in carrying out routine worship (religious rituals) so that there is interaction between the millennial generation across religions who uphold moderate values; (3) morals, where the millennial generation mutually enforce and uphold noble moral values by being guided by the teachings of their respective religions; (4) muamalah (social community), where the millennial generation carries out activities in harmony and mutual cooperation without differentiating between their religions.

Abstract

The emergence of digital culture has profoundly impacted the attitudes, behaviors, and value systems of Generation Z, resulting in a moral disparity between conventional religion doctrines and modern youth experiences.  As Indonesian adolescents increasingly engage with screen-based environments, worries grow over the erosion of Islamic character and ethical sensibility.  This study examines the critical question of how Islamic Religious Education (PAI) might respond to this moral drift and effectively recapture the spiritual and ethical identity of Generation Z students.  The study especially investigates the influence of PAI on the development of Islamic character in students at SMP Unismuh Makassar, while also identifying the principal problems and strategic solutions for its implementation.  This qualitative study employs interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection methods.  The research participants are PAI educators and students from SMP Unismuh Makassar.  The data were evaluated using the steps of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation utilized for validation.  The results indicate that PAI plays a crucial role in the internalization of Islamic values, including discipline, honesty, respect, and religious commitment, among pupils.  Nonetheless, challenges such as antiquated teaching methods, restricted instructional time, and insufficient incorporation of digital resources impede its effectiveness.  The study introduces a hybrid paradigm that integrates classical Islamic education with digital engagement tactics, enhancing its relevance for digitally native learners. In summary, enhancing Islamic Religious Education necessitates pedagogical innovation, the use of educational technology, and improved collaboration among educators, parents, and the school community to facilitate significant character development in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the problems of moral disintegration occurring in Indonesian educational institutions. The question addressed in this study is: What is the role of the Indonesian government in addressing the problems of moral disintegration occurring in Indonesian educational institutions? The objective of this study is to analyze the role of the Indonesian government in addressing the problems of moral disintegration occurring in Indonesian educational institutions. This research uses a literature review approach. The data is analyzed through a critical review of academic literature, previous research results, institutional reports such as KPAI, and the views of moral education experts such as Lawrence Kohlberg, Thomas Lickona, and Narvaez. The results of the study show that moral disintegration is not only caused by internal factors of students but is also influenced by the weakness of the guidance system in schools, the lack of role models among educators, and the imbalance between academic orientation and character development. Additionally, violent behavior by educators indicates that the moral crisis is not only an issue among students but also concerns the personal quality and professionalism of educators. This study confirms that the formation of students' morality requires a systemic approach that involves synergy between schools, families, communities, and the state. The government has a strategic role in strengthening character education policies through the curriculum, teacher training, and supervision of school culture. Therefore, it is necessary to reformulate the educational approach so that it does not merely emphasize cognitive aspects but also fosters ethical and spiritual values in a sustainable manner. This study is expected to serve as a conceptual and reflective reference in formulating the direction of moral education policy in Indonesia in the present and future.

Abstract

This study proposes a reconstruction of Islamic social education by re-evaluating the concept of Zakat through the lens of Tafsir Al-Qur’an Al-Majid An-Nur by Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy. While Zakat is traditionally taught as a static pillar of jurisprudence (fiqh), this research identifies a critical pedagogical gap: its potential as a catalyst for social transformation remains underutilised. Employing a qualitative library research methodology, the study performs a thematic excavation of Zakat-related exegesis in Ash-Shiddieqy’s work, synthesising classical interpretations with modern social education theories. The findings reveal a “Qur’anic Sunnah” that inextricably links prayer (Salah) to Zakat, forming a dual mission of individual spiritual growth and collective societal improvement. Ash-Shiddieqy’s exegesis presents Zakat as a sophisticated instrument of thaharah (purification) across three dimensions: wealth, the soul, and the community. Furthermore, the study highlights an educational “shock therapy” in the text, in which the enforcement of Zakat, symbolised by the historical precedent of the first Caliphate, establishes an absolute social contract that transcends individual property rights. By expanding the interpretation of the eight asnaf (beneficiaries) into a framework for sustainable community development, this research offers a novel social-educational paradigm. The study concludes that reconstructing Islamic education through the Zakat concept shifts the pedagogical focus from passive ritualism to active orthopraxis, providing a humanistic framework essential for addressing contemporary moral crises and achieving structural social justice.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of al-Kitāb (scriptural knowledge) and al-Ḥikmah (wisdom-based education) in the educational philosophy of Majid Irsan al-Kilani and its implications for the pesantren curriculum in Indonesia. Responding to the fragmentation between religious and secular sciences in contemporary education, al-Kilani advocates for a holistic curriculum model that synthesizes divine revelation with rational inquiry. Employing a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzes classical Islamic texts and educational theories to examine how pesantren can effectively integrate scriptural teachings with intellectual and spiritual formation. The research reveals that pesantren possess a distinct epistemological tradition—rooted in kitab kuning, character education, experiential learning, and spiritual mentorship—capable of implementing al-Kilani's integrated framework. The curriculum model includes three progressive levels, emphasizing mastery of jurisprudence, logic, and ethics while nurturing students into morally upright individuals and future Muslim intellectuals. This study concludes that pesantren, when equipped with systematic evaluation and guided by holistic educators (rabbānīyun), are uniquely positioned to produce insān kāmil—individuals who embody faith, knowledge, and ethical leadership in addressing contemporary global challenges.
