Abstract

The study aims to know the division of labor between women and men in the Bugis Families at Kupang coastal community. Collecting the data through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 20 familial members such as wives and husbands, and gathering in-deep information by conducting interviews and observations. The result of this study shows that: (1) In Bugis families, wife and husband work representing social solidarity because there is no role play that the only wife should cook, clean, and wash, while several husbands stay at home for cooking, washing, and nursing. (2) Gender division of labor approach to highlight the role, benefits, and risks of women and men in the coastal area. Women and men supply seaweed farming as a family business, and both of them work with a division of labor. The wife used the extra money for daily expenses, whereas the husband used their extra money for bigger investments. (3) Both women and men work not only equal but also equity because fishing is dangerous for women, but men can do it, while fishery multi-products are difficult for Bugis men, but it easy for women.

This type of research uses a PAR approach through management planning, actuating, organizing, and reflecting. Data were analyzed descriptively using data reduction, display, and verification. The findings of this study show that Aisiyah organization used the local wisdom to change people’s mindsets in seeing victims of sexual violence as figures that need to be strengthened together. The Minangkabau traditional order, which is based on customs and religion, is a comprehensive guide to governing people’s lives, particularly in the Minangkabau community. Minangkabau customs’ philosophical values of adat basandi syarak-syarak basandi kitabullah place women to a noble position. Women are the limpapeh rumah nan gadang, or the pillars of rumah gadang, which symbolize honor and glory. Women, as bundo kanduang, become symbols both physically and personality because they know how to behave in good manners and how to dress appropriately.

Abstract

As a group who are considered weak, it is not surprising that the cases of violence against women tend to happen repeatedly in Indonesia. Although there are a plethora of violence such as physical violence, psychological violence, sexual violence, and economic violence, these days physical violence remains the number one case in society. Generally economic violence is completely an invisible form of violence in society. This is essentially deemed a small matter, in which one of the causes is the concept of authoritarianism embedded in society. This study aims to investigate the forms of economic violence frequently experienced by women and its impact on women’s mental health. A qualitative method was employed with a case study approach. A purposive sampling was presented in this study with the sample consisting of two people. The findings showed that there are several varieties of economic violence against women such as inhibiting the development of women’s career, taking women’s financial well-being without permission, controlling family assets strictly, and obligating women to create a financial report. In addition, this violence has a significant deteriorating effect on women's mental health including frustration, conflict, fright, stress, and threats. As the last point, it was found that there is a relevance between economic violence and other types of violence

Child marriage is a complex issue that is still rife in recent times, especially in marginalized communities. Primary data were collected through interviews with child brides, parents and local communities; make observations on the settlement, the behavior of the community and their interactions with each other, especially for child brides. Using a sociological perspective, this study finds that there are four factors that underlie the occurrence of child marriage cases, firstly the mindset and lifestyle that ignores risk; second, poverty in education, economy, and religion; third, live comfortably in a cultural shell; and fourth, a house without a private/intimate space. These four factors become the background context that traps the community as if they are unable to get out of the problem

Abstract

Abstract

Women play a critical role in agrarian social relations. Women’s interests must always be considered in land governance and utilization policies. The construction of andesite mining in Wadas Village as one of the land development policies is considered to have taken away women’s interests and harmed women’s living space. This study employed a qualitative research method.  With an ecofeminism approach and an analytical description technique, This research aimed to elaborate on the role of women in the agrarian struggle against andesite mining and the construction of the Bener Dam in Wadas Village. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that Wadon Wadas, as one of the primary actors in agrarian social relations, has played a critical role in determining the continuity and preservation of agrarian resources in Wadas Village. Wadon Wadas’ involvement in a variety of protests can be explained, such as participating in litigation efforts to overturn the Governor’s policy in court, mujahadah (spiritual struggle), weaving besek (container made of woven bamboo), and sharing food as a cultural and symbolic action, as well as their resistance during the repressive physical conflict by the police.

The data originated from primary data based on observation and interviews, and secondary data in the form of statistics. Using analysis based on sociology of gender theories, specifically the Women and Development (WaD) and Talcott Parson’s structural feminism theory, this study obtained three findings. First, the dynamics of divorce in Madura increased in the last three years  (2018-2020).   By type, divorces in Madura are mostly judicial than repudiatory,. The second finding is that there are two categories of factors underlying the rise of judicial divorce. The first is direct factors such as the economy, abandonment, and domestic violence. The second category is indirect factors, such as low education level,  while only 7% had higher education. From the perspective of Parson’s structural feminism theory, the study also found that the high number of women with low education levels involved in a judicial divorce in Madura negatively impacts their existence and experience. In numerous cases namely violence against women.
