Abstract

AbstractMathematical literacy (ML) skill is important because the activities of everyday life are related to mathematics and require prompt and in-depth understanding. Therefore, this study aims to examine the ML skill of madrasah students in Indonesia both as a whole and based on the level of madrasah (MI, MTs, and MA). The sampling technique was then adopted Random Assignment, which obtained a total of 3,285 students from 26 regions in Indonesia. Furthermore, a qualitative descriptive method with a survey technique was used. The instrument used for the was the PISA design with an Islamic context in the form of a description. The results showed the ML skill of madrasah students in Indonesia has an average of 17.23%, with Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) having 6.39%, Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) with 20.01%, and Madrasah Aliyah (MA) with 25.29%. The low ML skill is because most of the students do not understand the context in the questions. The context in the assessment of this skill is important because it helps students to remember what they have learned, relate them to the problems, and offer a solution that fits the given context. Another cause is the lack of using problems that have the characters of PISA questions in the learning process. Therefore, the students are less trained in working on contextual questions and require high-level thinking. How to Cite: Kurniawati, L. Abstract

AbstractThis study explores the role of Islamic education through a psycho-spiritual approach in alleviating extreme poverty in Indonesia. Extreme poverty, which encompasses economic, social, psychological, and spiritual dimensions, requires a holistic approach to empowerment. Islamic education is more than just a transfer of knowledge; it shapes character and positive mentality through values such as patience, sincerity, and social care. This study employs a literature review method with a qualitative approach to analyze how psycho-spiritual education can be part of a sustainable solution. The findings indicate that integrating psycho-spiritual education into poverty alleviation programs can help build individuals’ mental and spiritual resilience. With collaboration between the government, Islamic educational institutions, and community organizations, this approach has the potential to be an effective strategy for addressing the challenges of extreme poverty. This research offers a new perspective on empowering communities through holistic education. How to Cite: Dawam, A., & Syaidah, K. (2024). Abstract

AbstractMany studies reported that reading can improve academic achievements, critical thinking skills, confidence, social behavior, and all characters required by students to get a better job and better life. In the Disruption Era, however, many students are potentially disrupted by social media interactions that affected their reading habits. The present study was aimed to explore the reading habits of students in the printed textbook. The study was carried out in 2019, involving 469 students from three study programs of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, i.e. Biology Education, Chemistry Education, and Physics Education. Data were collected using questionnaires in a convenience sampling method with a sample of about 70% of the population. Results show that 81% of students read printed textbooks two hours or less per day, and 53% spend less than one hour. There are a few students, however, who read textbooks more than four hours per day. Students' visit to the library is mostly (35%) 3-4 times per year and >5 times per year (33%). Reading for leisure is not very popular among the students. Multiple regression models showed that students' science textbooks, students' interest in information technology books, the number of literature read, and the number of bought-books significantly determine the duration of students' reading time. Potential methods to improve students' reading habits are discussed.

Abstract

AbstractThis study recruited participants from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and Universitas Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta and the University of Sydney, and the University of Western Sydney in Australia and aimed at investigating whether policies are implemented as a bridge to accommodate disabled students for admission and academic pursuits. In this combined policy research and case study, individual, group, and policymaker interviews were conducted. The findings indicate that, while university policymakers admit students with special needs, a lack of academic advocates among faculty has hampered understanding of pertinent policies. As a result, some lecturers do not pay attention to inclusiveness. There are environmental impediments, a dearth of services throughout the enrollment process, a lack of faculty competencies, and a paucity of information in syllabi indicating where impaired students can access resources. In Australia, colleges are more forthright about accommodating students with special needs during the enrolling process and during class time. Both campuses have disability assessment clinics. However, some are more physically and centrally positioned to facilitate impaired students who self-refer for services. The purpose of this paper is to argue that genuinely inclusive education is not segregated schooling that separates 'normal' pupils from those with special needs. For authentic inclusion, disabled populations require considerate, if not extraordinary, care and services. How to Cite: Lessy, Z., Assegaf, A. R., Sirait, S. (2021). Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to see whether goal setting, self-efficacy, interest and peer support altogether have impact on self-regulated learning of students of STSN. Research population is 328 students of first to fourth year of STSN, while the sample is 291 students which filtered using convenience sampling method. This is a quantitative research. Research validity is examined using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Data is analysed using multiple regression analysis. The result shows that goal setting, self-efficacy, interest and peer support altogether have impact on self-regulated learning. Variables of intensity, course efficacy, and intrinsic orientation have significant impact on self-regulated learning. While variables of content, roommate efficacy, social efficacy, affected related valence, value related valence, intrinsic orientation, tangible, belonging, appraisal, and self-esteem are statistically not proven to have an impact on self-regulated learning. In particular, this research shows that peer support independently has no effect on self-regulated learning meanwhile previous research has shown the opposite. Further research needs to consider the utilization of operational language which culturally appropriate regarding questionnaire drafting. It is because the questionnaire with the basis of local culture will ignite appropriate response from the respondents. How to Cite: Sanyoto, B., Saloom, G. Abstract

AbstractThe challenges of accreditation reviews create a sense of stress across academic institutions that can be significantly reduced when strategies are implemented and maintained. Understanding the purpose, value, and benefits of the accreditation process is critical. Two techniques that lead to accreditation success include ongoing program meetings resulting in assigned tasks that address government or commission evaluation standards, and the use of a program matrix. The article includes meeting strategies and a universally adaptable matrix design. Moving from stress to success is possible when the techniques are linked to all standards and subsections, and each task successfully meets accreditation requirements. Abstract

AbstractGlobalisation trends and free trade have emerged as catalysts for the internationalisation of higher education institutions. The internationalisation of PTKI has primarily been spearheaded by State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, particularly within their Postgraduate Programs (PPs). However, the efficacy of these initiatives necessitates critical review and evaluation, hence the imperative for this research. This qualitative, multi-case study employs internationalisation as the unit of analysis, gathering data through documentary studies and in-depth interviews. Following verification, reduction, and categorisation, the data were analysed utilising discourse and thematic techniques. This study focuses on the Postgraduate Schools (SPs) of UIN Jakarta and UIN Yogyakarta. The findings reveal that indicators of internationalisation across various dimensions, including management, teaching and educational staff, students, research, collaboration, and international reputation, have been pursued by the SPs of UIN Jakarta. However, one notable absence is the provision of international study programs at both the master’s and doctoral levels, a feature already present within the PPs of UIN Yogyakarta. How to Cite: Saepudin, D., Asmawi, Sujoko, I., & Sapiudin. (2023). Abstract

AbstractThis research is based on several inquiries from mathematics educators on the origins of negative numbers and their acceptance in the community. This study used library research, or more precisely, bibliographical studies, as a method. The research examined how the Asian and European communities accept negative numbers. The study's findings indicated that the Asian and European communities accept negative numbers differently. In comparison to the Asian population, the European populace takes a long time to accept negative figures. It resulted in numerous contrasts between the Asian and European Communities, one of which is in terms of religiosity. This study established that religiosity has an effect on the Asian and European communities' acceptance of negative numbers. Abstract

AbstractAlong with the transformation of Islamic higher educations into full-fledged universities, the concept of integration of science and religion is their key characteristic. Indonesian education has witnessed the dynamic and development of paradigm, concept, and metaphor for Islamic university’s science integration. Many studies dealing with the paradigm and concept of science integration and its implementation in curriculum design and learning process have been conducted but tend to focus on the monolithic understanding of each university. By distancing itself from the general trend, this study attempted to analyze the plural conceptions of science integration and factors affecting the plural conceptions at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. To achieve the goal, we employed a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approach with questionnaires distributed to the sample of 147 lecturers, focus group discussion with 25 participants, and library studies. The study found three types of conceptions have developed and co-existed at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, namely official conception, senior academia’s conception, and general lecturers' conception. Each has its formulation and emphasis, although they share some similarities. The study also revealed the institutional factor as context and individual factors, mainly experience and expertise, resulting in the plural conceptions of science integration. Thus, the concept of science integration at an Islamic university should be considered as a dynamic and plural entity. How to Cite:  Zulkifli, Nurhayati, C., Ruswandi, B., Suralaga, F. Abstract

AbstractThis study examined and analyzed nine teachers' teaching practices with children in the sixth to seventh grades of primary school.   Effective teaching was discovered in this study to be dependent on three components of a classroom: 1) introduction – linking prior experience to the new issue; 2) sharing/discussing the primary topic; and 3) reflection/summarizing the lesson learned and new terms acquired. The findings indicated that students' learning and comprehension appeared to be contingent on the teacher's strategies for collaborating with students and constantly focusing their attention on the lesson (particularly on crucial features), which facilitated students' willingness to volunteer for discussion participation through open questions, constructive feedback, and so forth. Additionally, it provided teachers with insight on how to handle unforeseen classroom circumstances. For instance, numerous "attention-seeking" conflicts may arise, preventing the achievement of the objectives when time is spent on them. When reprimands and punishments are utilized, learners are reluctant to seek assistance or express their thoughts. Teachers must demonstrate their managerial competence by refraining to single out specific students in this situationAbstrakStudi ini meneliti dan menganalisis praktik mengajar sembilan guru dengan anak-anak di kelas enam hingga tujuh sekolah dasar. How to Cite: Jaihu, E. (2021).
