Abstract

Self-regulated learning is a skill that is important to be taught to students because this skill is useful in their learning environment management to achieve the best learning outcomes. Thus, teaching this ability as early as possible is better, such as in elementary school. One alternative way to introduce and teach this skill is through games. This study aims to capture the relevant previous research landscape regarding the use of games in elementary school learning and for self-regulated learning from 2020 to 2023 using bibliometric analysis with the help of the VOSviewer application. The Scopus database was used to search for data with the keywords "games", "self-regulated learning", "elementary education," and "primary education," which were then refined to become 196 journal article publications. From the results of this analysis, it was found that the trend of publications about the use of games in learning had appeared in 2020, but about self-regulated learning, game-based learning, and elementary/primary education had only appeared in 2021. The research focus can be divided into four major topics, namely: (1) the use of game and game-based learning in primary education, (2) child development, and (3) the use of technology used in primary school education. Surprisingly, there hasn't been research on self-regulated learning in elementary education. Thus, further research and development on the topic can be done.

Abstract

Modifying the curriculum is often necessary for autistic children to effectively engage in their learning. Interestingly, a particular learning process was discovered that proved to be effective without any need for modification - specifically, teaching science to an autistic child. This discovery calls for further investigation. This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of the unique traits exhibited by autistic children who excel in learning science without the need for any modifications.  This study utilized the Spradley analysis method, which involves domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis. The participants in this study consisted of elementary school students in the 3rd grade who have autism. They were selected using the purposive sampling method. The data collection involved conducting interviews, examining documentation, and studying artifacts. The findings of the study indicate that children with mild autism can effectively learn science without requiring any adjustments, while still receiving necessary accommodations. Tasks can be effectively completed with the support of teachers and the assistance of paraprofessionals. Autistic children demonstrate proficiency in basic science process skills, creativity, and fine motor skills. They also exhibit a positive affect and are able to socialize effectively. Addressing focus and emotional issues involves implementing structured meal plans, providing parents with guidance on educating their children, and fostering strong collaboration with teachers.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a teaching model that combines problem-based educational methods with local culture and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to train future primary school teachers who are adaptable and creative in the 21st century. The development model employed encompasses the subsequent phases: (1) preparatory stage, (2) prototype stage, and (3) assessment stage (Nieveen et al., 2016). The quality of the problem-based PK lecture model, which incorporates local culture and TPACK, is assessed based on its validity, practicality, and effectiveness (Francisca, 2017; Santi & Santosa, 2016). The development of the model includes the collaboration of two professionals, specifically curriculum experts and learning experts, together with the participation of five students who conduct practical knowledge (PK) activities in five elementary schools. The experimental trial consisted of 20 students who conducted instructional activities in 20 primary schools. The research and development findings indicate that the implementation of the PK lecture model has a feasibility rate of 91%, placing it in the outstanding category. Additionally, this learning model enhances students' competence and effectively improves learning outcomes in educational practices. Moreover, the model fosters a learning environment that integrates local culture and TPACK, equipping prospective elementary school teachers with adaptability and innovation skills for the 21st century.

Abstract

In accordance with Ki Hajar Dewantara's educational philosophy, which emphasizes the simultaneous role of home, school, and community in education, this study addresses a significant change in the Indonesian primary school curriculum. Several years ago, the Indonesian government removed English language instruction from elementary schools. However, the recently introduced Kurikulum Merdeka has reinstated English as a local subject in primary education. This reintroduction has generated concerns among TEYL (Teaching English for Young Learners) professionals, as it challenges the notion of the golden age of language acquisition. Young learners are believed to benefit from extensive exposure to the English language due to their rapid knowledge acquisition potential. Consequently, this study seeks to investigate the perspectives, interests, and needs of parents, teachers, and schools regarding the implementation of English language instruction at elementary schools. This quantitative cross-sectional study involved 383 participants selected through a purposive sampling strategy. It employed a survey research approach complemented by triangulation and Cronbach's Alpha tests to ensure validity and reliability. The findings of this research are poised to offer invaluable insights for parents seeking the best educational opportunities for their children and TEYL experts striving to enhance their teaching practices and methodologies. Additionally, this research highlights the demand for early childhood English language education. It serves as a foundational resource for evidence-based improvements in the educational landscape, ultimately benefiting the Indonesian youth as they navigate the complexities of the modern world.
