Abstract

Iodometric titration generally uses synthetic starch as an endpoint indicator. This indicator is non-biodegradable, environmentally unfriendly, and relatively expensive. An alternative that can be offered is the use of natural starch from local plants as a more sustainable indicator. This study aims to test the potential of starch from various plant sources as a natural indicator in iodometric titration. Analysis of copper levels using starch indicators from four local plants showed varying values, namely sticky rice 0.50 g, purple sweet potato 0.95 g, unus rice 0.67 g, potato 0.87 g, and, as a comparison, commercial synthetic starch indicators produced 0.58 g. Of the four starch sources, the glutinous rice starch indicator produced results closest to the synthetic indicator, with a difference of only 0.08 g. These findings indicate that glutinous rice starch has accuracy comparable to synthetic indicators, making it a potential alternative for effective iodometric titration indicators. Glutinous rice starch has the potential to be used as an effective, environmentally friendly, and more sustainable natural indicator compared to synthetic starch in iodometric titration.

Abstract

This research aims to explore information regarding perceptions of chemistry teachers' understanding of the development of ethnoscience-based chemistry learning in the independent curriculum in Merauke. This research uses a qualitative method with survey and interview methods, especially focusing on the integration of local wisdom in chemistry learning. The participants in this study were 11 chemistry teachers who have implemented ethnoscience-based learning. Data was analyzed by reducing data, displaying data, drawing conclusions/verification. The aspects explored in this research consist of aspects of teachers' understanding of ethnoscience, use of local wisdom in learning, obstacles faced in implementation, availability of resources and materials, relevance to the curriculum, level of student involvement and teacher motivation in implementing ethnoscience. The research results show that the majority of teachers have positive perceptions of ethnoscience learning, especially in relation to student understanding and motivation in teaching. However, obstacles such as teachers' lack of understanding to relate chemistry material to local wisdom, availability of resources and materials are still lacking, not all material can be applied to local cultural wisdom. This indicates that ethnoscience has great potential to be improved to support the quality of chemistry learning. although more support is needed to optimize its implementation, especially training for teachers regarding understanding the application of ethnoscience in chemistry material.

Abstract

Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that accompany it. Chemical matter is defined as everything that has mass and occupies space. Chemical materials can be single substances (elements) or mixed substances (compounds). Based on the results of an interview with a teacher at SMAN 7, Pontianak revealed that students have difficulty in learning the reaction rate especially in understanding the reaction rate concept, where students can only repeat the definition of the reaction rate without understanding the real meaning so that they tend to rely on memorization alone. The abstract nature of reaction rate content is also one of the reasons why students have difficulty in learning reaction rate content.  The purpose of this study was to develop Instagram media-based learning videos on reaction rate content and to determine the level of validity and students' responses to these learning videos to increase efficient and effective knowledge. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) approach of the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate), with only the Analyze, Design, and Develop stages applied. Data collection techniques used, namely direct communication techniques interviews and indirect communication in the form of validity test questionnaire sheets and wide stundent response test questionnaires, with research instruments in the form of feasibility assessment sheets and student response questionnaires. The results proved that the average percentage of content validity was 95.9%, and media validity was 98%, both with very valid criteria. The average percentage of student responses in the small group test reached 83.3% with very good criteria, while in the large group test it was 91.25%. In addition, the average percentage of teacher responses reached 88%, with very good criteria, thus it can be concluded that the learning video assisted by Instagram media on reaction rate material is declared very feasible to use.

Abstract

The increase in the quantity of student publications in scientific journals has not been optimally followed by an improvement in their quality. Articles published in unaccredited journals still dominate compared to those published in nationally accredited journals. This study explores students' abilities and difficulties in publishing articles in journals. The method used is survey research. The population was lecturers and students of the Biology Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Banjarmasin. The student categories targeted were those who had never published, were learning to publish, and had already published, with a total of 196 students. Ten lecturers and 49 students were selected as the sample using random sampling techniques. Data were collected through a Google Form questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. The results revealed that students face difficulties in publishing in journal articles due to a lack of understanding of journal article writing guidelines, the absence of clear and practical article writing guides, and suboptimal supervision from lecturers for students interested in writing for journal publication. The alternative solution offered from the data is to make guidelines for preparing articles for journal publication and provide assistance in writing articles intensely and periodically.
