Abstract

This research is research and development based on Lee and Owens’ design that aims to develop a valid and practical food microbiology electronic module based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL). The research and development consisted of five steps: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The validity of e-module was assessed by content expert, media and teaching material expert, and biology education practitioner. The practicality of e-module was assessed by The State University of Malang students who had joined food microbiology course. The instruments of this research were validation sheets of content expert, media and teaching material expert, biology education practitioners, and student questionnaire sheet responses. The development outcome showed that the validation of the content experts, media and teaching, and biology education practitioner give a percentage of 100%. The outcome of the practicality of e-module showed that the individual trial gets a percentage of 92,44%, small group is 90,96%, and the field is 92,96%. According to the outcomes, it can be inferred that e-module have filled the validity and practicality necessity to be applied as teaching material in food microbiology courses.

Abstract

In the education system in Indonesia in the 21st century, students are required to have 4C skills, namely, (1) communication; (2) collaboration; (3) critical thinking ability; (4) creativity and innovation. The ability to collaborate is one of the main competencies that students must acquire to meet the needs and skills in the world of work. This research is in the form of a systematic literature study that aims to obtain media information, methods, results, and problems in the application of collaborative learning in an educational environment. Literature was obtained through the Scopus database with a boolean operator search technique, then 1446 literatures found were then filtered for reporting items for a systematic review and meta-analysis approach (PRISMA) so that 33 literatures on 21st century skills were obtained. The results showed that the media used could be through LMS, software, and games as well as the most dominant method used is Problem Based Learning (PBL) with additional media innovation or other methods. The use of these media and methods has a positive impact on improving learning outcomes and collaboration skills, students also feel motivated and challenged by collaboration, including the use of online media was able to increase students' lower self-confidence to collaborate. However, collaborative learning has several problems including, (1) current students tend to be non-homogeneous so they tend not to be ready for collaboration; (2) educators do not clearly know the obstacles of students when conducting online collaborative learning; (3) students lack experience with projects so they are reluctant to work in groups; (4) distance collaborative learning is not enough to capture social signals than face-to-face; (5) learning media has not been fully able to improve 21st century skills and objectives; (6) measuring tools for collaborative skills do not yet have sufficient indicator.

Abstract

The development of the Speaking e-book in this study was carried out because students and teachers of the tenth grade of Senior High Schools needed supplementary material to study recount text which focuses more on speaking activities and these activities can bridge the gaps in the textbook and workbook. The product was developed based on the model of Research and Development proposed by Borg and Gall (1996). From the process of product validation and tryout, some results showed that the Speaking e-book was effective to be used as supplementary material to teach recount text since the series of tasks provided helped develop students’ speaking ability.
