Abstract

This article is intended to explore the concept of God's manifestation in three different religions. The agreement of each religion/belief on the Godhead, has become a guide for each of its adherents. On the other hand, the differences of other derivative concepts become very open to be studied in the comparative area. The Oneness of God, which is explained and agreed upon by all religions, lowers the conception and assertiveness shown by His own Essence to be understood upon His existence through His manifestation. It is in this area of manifestation that there is a distinction from each belief to "describe" God based on their respective religious texts. Based on this, this research will place three religions; Islam, Hinduism and Christianity in the area of the concept of manifestation understood by each of these religions. As a result, the three religions that are the object of this research have a narrative that is fully agreed upon in the concept of God's transcendence. This is based on the understanding that everything that becomes empirical reality is a necessity that causes everything. On the other hand, the transcendence of God also gave birth to a concept that leads to the rationality of existence to be proven. In this case, the concept of manifestation was born as one of the reflections in various religions in the world. Both Islam, Hinduism and Christianity have their own concepts in interpreting this. Islam and Hinduism are more similar in this regard, both having the concept of the manifestation of a transcendent God. Christianity, on the other hand, believes in a concept that is both transcendent and immanent at the same time.

Abstract

This article examines the tradition of prayer/Shalawat as a way to get closer to the Prophet Muhammad and Allah. Over time, this prayer practice developed alongside the use of traditional musical instruments like terbang, jidor, teplak and kricik. The article also looks at how Christians incorporate various songs into their worship services as a form of prayer and connection with God. The research aims to understand how music deepens the meaning and impact of prayer for worshippers seeking closeness with the divine. It also wants to explore the spiritual significance of praying with or without instruments and how pop culture elements factor in. The qualitative study utilizes an exploratory-descriptive approach through a comparative theology lens. Key findings are twofold. First, for Muslims, prayer with Muhammad and Allah is a means for drawing nearer to them, obtaining help and healing. For Christians, music is viewed as a gift from God, an expression of thankfulness for life's joys, and encouragement and comfort during difficulties. Second, Islamic shalawat and Christian church music intersect with pop culture by blending traditional instruments like the terbang, jidor, teplak and kricik with contemporary tone and rhythm variations like dangdut. Here, pop culture represents a positive change because it strengthens the spiritual experience for worshippers while adding entertainment value.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the spirituality movement in the modern world has penetrated into the foundations of society. Modern humans always long for a happy life, so people enter into spiritual activities, one of which is by joining GAI which aims to gain a new spiritual life. GAI's offer of spiritual life makes a person have a pluralist attitude in his life in the social realm. The purpose of this article is to find out about their spiritual activities and how they view other Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The method of this research is field research, which uses a religious phenomenology approach. The results of this research show that GAI have dimensions of spirituality such as allegiance and Qur'anic ethics which enable them to feel inner peace. Apart from that, they also view people from other Muslim communities as Muslims in general, and their attitude towards the Ahl-Kitab does not view them with respect. In GAI's view, there is nothing wrong with a Muslim man marrying a non-Muslim woman and eating food slaughtered by the people of the Bible. The conclusion of this article is that a spiritual life causes GAI's religious understanding to become pluralistic and able to open itself to other views.

Abstract

The encounter between the concept of democracy and religious teachings, especially Islam, is interesting to discuss. This raises several relevant questions: Can democracy be considered within the framework of Islamic teachings? Are democratic values in line with Islamic teachings? Can Islamic principles be juxtaposed with democracy? In addition, what are the views of Islamic scholars, such as Abdul Karim Soroush, on the issue of democracy? Through a literature review, we can find some unique thoughts from Abdul Karim Soroush that are interesting to listen to. One of them is his concept of religious democracy, which also tries to redefine the meaning of religion and the understanding of religion itself. According to Soroush, democracy is currently an established idea. He also argues that democracy is not a monolithic concept, and neither is Islam. Although originating from Western culture, democracy can adapt to local conditions when it interacts with the local cultural context. Therefore, Soroush emphasized that there is no need to be afraid of democracy.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the importance of pluralist theology for the serenity of urban society in the study of anapanasati meditation in the Karangdjati monastery. The subjects of the study were non-Buddhist meditation participants, meditators and administrators of Karangdjati Vihara. Anapanasati meditation (breathing meditation) at Karangdjati Vihara is increasingly practiced by people who adhere to different religions or have different ways of worship, especially non-Buddhist participants. The results of this study show that there are several Reactualizations of pluralist theology, namely that meditation not only serves as a spiritual practice that allows individuals to focus on themselves and understand the universal values embraced by various religions and cultures, but also as a process that facilitates understanding and appreciation of other religious and cultural differences. Therefore, meditation in the context of pluralist theology helps individuals gain a deeper awareness and understanding of the universal values upheld by different religions and cultures, while also helping to reduce conflict and encourage interfaith and intercultural dialogue.

Abstract

This research reveals Sigmund Freud's theories and views on religion in Daniel L.Pals‘ Nine Theories of Religion and analyses them using Emil Durkheim and William James’ functionalism theories. The type of method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research with content analysis techniques and library research. The results of this study show that Freud identified an internal conflict between the id, ego, and superego similar to Durkheim's concept of social institutions that balance individual needs with social norms, seeing religion as a mechanism to strengthen social cohesion. James emphasised adaptation and individual psychological functioning, helping to understand Freud's analysis of personality conflict and the Oedipus complex as an attempt at individual adaptation to the social environment. Although Freud saw religion as a collective neurosis and illusion, from Durkheim's perspective, religion plays an important role in strengthening social solidarity, and from James' perspective, religion provides significant meaning and moral strength for individuals, helping them to face life's challenges and adapt to their social environment. Thus, religion serves as a mechanism for maintaining psychological and social stability, providing meaning and structure for individuals in a complex society.

Abstract

Diversity is a characteristic and treasure of the Indonesian nation. Religious differences are like a double-edged knife, one side is wealth and the other can trigger conflict in people's lives. As a large and diverse nation, we must be able to manage existing diversity in order to sustain harmonious social life. This research displays the synergy between the government and society in creating a village aware of religious harmony in Lumbirejo Village and Poncokresno Village, Negeri Katon District, Pesawaran Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach. In collecting data, researchers conducted interviews and observations in the field and in book literature, scientific journal articles and other written sources. The results of this research show that in creating a village aware of religious harmony, the Lumbirejo Village and Poncokresno Village Governments are synergizing with the Pesawaran FKUB, Pesawaran Ministry of Religion, Pesawaran Regency Government, TNI and Polri. The supporting factors are; First, an understanding of society that is aware of differences, tolerant and united is the main capital for realizing a harmonious society; Second, synergy between government and society. The next obstacle factors in realizing a harmonious conscious village are: First, political interests; Second, social media content that contains SARA has a bad influence on young people; Third, the lack of government operational assistance to FKUB Pesawaran as a means of realizing a village that is aware of religious harmony has therefore not been maximized.

Abstract

The internet has transformed the way millennials gain religious knowledge. Previously, they relied on print media like magazines, journals, or teachings from religious leaders. Today, they turn to convergence media that offers instant, though often incomplete, content. Islamic websites have become a primary source for quick religious information. This shift highlights new spaces on the internet for social interaction and religious discourse, particularly aimed at millennials. However, these digital spaces serve as more than just communication tools; they also act as channels for spreading religious messages, including propaganda and radicalism. Given the significance of Islamic websites as communication channels, studying radicalism on these platforms is essential. This is due to three key factors: first, Islamic websites have emerged as new communication platforms; second, religious messages online have a broad reach, crossing national borders; and third, internet-based information has a strong influence on users. This research is critical in preventing radicalism on websites and social media by uncovering the motivations behind the spread of radical messages online.

Abstract

Discussions about religious discourse (religiosity) in a literary work are currently quite interesting to discuss. This is related to literary works which are considered to be imaginary works of their authors so they do not have authority in discussing religious issues. Literary works seem to only be reading material that has recreational (entertainment) and aesthetic value. As is often found in literary works such as novels, poetry, short stories and pantuns. In fact, apart from the recreational and aesthetic function, literary works also have a moral function, meaning that literature also provides readers with knowledge about good or bad morals, thus literary works also have religious values (religiosity). One of them is a novel which contains many religious values. Novels can inspire readers to pay more attention to the religious side of life. This shows that the religious aspects contained in the novel are Islamic teachings. The novel Bidadari Bumi: 9 Stories of Salehah Women, is a novel that tells the story of a role model woman in Tarim, Hadramaut, Yemen. This novel is very worthy of being used as an example in life. Especially for Muslim women in this century who are experiencing a crisis of religious values, examples and role models for pious women. The novel Bidadari Bumi: 9 Stories of Salehah Women, is not just a reading novel, this novel is full of examples about life, and also the writing in this novel is presented in very good language, and is easy to understand. So it becomes a special attraction for readers.
