Abstract

Many scholars view writing as a highly laborious task because many subcomponents are to be moulded into a single discourse. This issue is also faced by Indonesian higher education students, particularly sophomore students of the department of Sundanese language education. Therefore, this present study aims to uncover the factual evidence of whether the use of a rubric can enhance valid judgment. This process employed a validity and reliability scoring system. Subsequently, it is also significant to examine the functions of a rubric to promote sophomores’ learning and develop instruction from lecturers in the department of Sundanese language education. This study objectively assesses students’ descriptive writing in Sundanese language by considering the analytical scoring assessment functions. It turns out that the outcomes motivated the lecturers to constantly simplify the criteria in order to fit sophomores' descriptive texts, discover significant features, and incorporate the qualities into their own text insights. Furthermore, depending on the text complexity, such as intermediate, pre-advanced, and advanced writing, as well as students' writing competence and maturation, lecturers may modify the analytical rubric that moderately recommends the necessary qualities of descriptive texts or encompasses a wider component of rubrics qualities. This finding implies that the analytical scoring rubric incorporates the influential scoring method into daily activities.

Abstract

Physical Education (PE) in elementary schools has so far been extensively geared towards achieving character goals. However, not all of these goals have been well accomplished by teachers. This research aims to examine three fundamental issues in PE practice, i.e., to define PE teachers perceptions of character education, to identify problems of PE teachers in promoting character education, and to determine whether PE teachers consider character education is plausible to be implemented through PE activities. This study used a case study and a content analysis in the qualitative research method. The data were obtained from 53 PE teachers who worked in 53 elementary schools from 26 sub-districts in Sumedang Regency through an accessible case sampling method. This study employed individual interviews (10-15 minutes) in a semi-structured interview technique. Content analysis was used to analyze the interview scripts. This study revealed that character education is defined as the process of individual alteration from family, school, and social life. Meanwhile, the teachers stated that the curriculum is considered to be not precisely accessible for the development of character education since they were still confused about curriculum implementation. However, they believed that PE is effective to promote character education.

Abstract

Low critical thinking skills are a crucial problem in science learning. Meanwhile, the purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the i-Spring Suite 10 media on students’ critical thinking skills in natural science. The research method used a quasi-experimental with a limited population, namely 6th-grade students of SDS IT Darul Muta'alimin. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique so that there were two classes that were used as samples, namely 6th A grade with 20 students and 6th B grade with 20 students. 6th A grade as an experimental class and used interactive multimedia based on i-Spring Suite 10. Meanwhile, 6th B grade was the control class and used audiovisual-based multimedia. The research instrument used a test with multiple choices and explanation. Based on the results of statistical analysis, the results of t-observed were 2.89 and t-critical with a significance level of 5% (ɑ = 0.05) of 2.025. From these results, it was found that tobserved t critical. This study concludes that there is a significant effect of the interactive multimedia based on i-Spring Suite 10 on students’ critical thinking skills in natural science subjects.
