Abstract

The main objective of this research is to analyze the implementation of a history literacy learning model based on discovery learning in Social Studies Education for grade X at Senior High School. A mixed methods intervention design was used in this study. The subjects of the research were teachers and students from Pertiwi Senior High School in Padang City, West Sumatra Province. Data collection was conducted through direct observation of classroom activities, interviews with 29 students and 1 teacher regarding their experiences in the learning process, and tests in the form of pretests and posttests to assess learning outcomes before and after the implementation of the learning model. The results of this study indicate that quantitatively, the use of the history literacy learning model based on discovery learning has a positive impact on students' learning outcomes, as evidenced by the differences in learning results before and after the model was implemented. Qualitatively, this model has encouraged students to engage directly in exploring historical information, providing them with experiences while training them to think critically and analytically about various historical narratives. This research implies the importance of applying the history literacy learning model based on discovery learning in Social Studies Education at senior high schools within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. Teachers can use this model to facilitate students in developing their understanding of history and training various skills that are needed.

Abstract

The research objective is to identify primary history students' readiness to use QR code-based e-job sheets in terms of knowledge, experience, and supporting facilities. The research material consists of digital technology devices, smartphones, internet networks, electronic worksheets, QR Code applications, and an assessment of historical learning. This research applied a quantitative approach. Research respondents included significant history students at the Faculty of Social Sciences Universitas Negeri Padang from 2018 to 2022, including 140 students. Data were collected through a Google Form application questionnaire and shared with the students via WhatsApp. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using percentages and averages. General findings showed that many students were ready to use QR code-based e-job sheets, but others still needed them. The particular findings included: 1) more than half of respondents knew what the e-job sheet was, but two-thirds of them had no experience using the e-job sheet, 2) related to QR codes, it was found that half of the respondents knew what QR code was, but a part of them had no experience using QR codes, and 3) two-thirds of the respondents stated that supporting facilities such campus internet and their smartphone were unable to support the use of QR codes-based e-job sheets. QR code-based e-job sheets have become essential in optimizing digital technology in learning activities. Further research is needed to measure the effectiveness of using QR code-based e-job sheets as an alternative strategy and instrument for assessing learning outcomes in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of students’ chronological thinking skills in history learning, which has been dominated by lectures and conventional media such as PowerPoint slides containing long texts. Such conditions make students less active and relatively passive during learning activities. This study aims to analyze the need for an innovative learning medium called Chrono E-Puzzle to improve senior high school students’ chronological thinking skills. The research applied a mixed-method approach (quantitative–qualitative). Data were collected through observation, interviews, and a test using Google Form involving 25 eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Padang and a history teacher. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The findings revealed that: (1) teachers still rely heavily on lectures with monotonous media; (2) students’ chronological thinking skills are relatively low, with only 12% able to correctly sequence the proclamation events; (3) students find it difficult to understand cause–effect relationships within historical contexts; and (4) there is a strong need for interactive and innovative learning media to enhance chronological thinking skills. These results highlight the urgency of developing Chrono E-Puzzle as an engaging, interactive, and meaningful history learning medium.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students to understand historical concepts and the lack of variety in the learning media used by teachers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the need for the development of a Mind Mapping-based learning medium in the material “Basic Concepts of History” to train students’ conceptual understanding skills. The development of learning media is considered essential to improve the quality of history learning, which is often perceived as less engaging and difficult for students to comprehend. The use of mind mapping learning media is expected to provide a solution by offering material that is more interactive, engaging, and easily accessible to students. This study employs a mixed-method approach (qualitative and quantitative) with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and pretest questions. The results of the study indicate that teachers need varied and interactive learning media, students have access to personal devices to support the use of digital media, and schools provide adequate facilities. In conclusion, the researcher offers a solution through the development of Mind Mapping-based learning media, which is expected to enhance students’ conceptual understanding skills in history learning.
