Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze how the self-disclosure of women victims of HIV in conducting interpersonal communication with counselors. The research was conducted at the Center for the Social Rehabilitation of People Living with HIV (BRSODHA) "BAHAGIA" Medan. This study uses a qualitative method with a constructivism approach. The research subjects in this study were 2 (two) women HIV victims at BRSODH "Bahagia" Medan and 1 (one) triangulation informant, namely a counselor at BRSODH "Bahagia" Medan. The data collection technique used in-depth interviews, while the theories used as references in this study were the theory of interpersonal communication, self-disclosure and the theory of social penetration. Research findings show that in self-disclosure interpersonal communication, HIV victims are open about the topic of personal experiences, feelings and problems they face. Both informants admitted to telling the topic in depth but still filtering what was revealed. Both informants were afraid and embarrassed to talk about the future because they were afraid to have expectations that did not meet their expectations. Both informants tend to be more comfortable doing self-disclosure to fellow PLWH compared to counselors because of their similarity in status.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the communication process between teachers and students, what obstacles are faced by teachers and students and the effort made by teachers to overcome obstacles in carrying out teaching and learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic at Primbana Elementary School Medan. This research uses constructivism paradigm with descriptive qualitative method. The main informants in the research are teachers and students, while the triangulation as the validity of the data consists of parents and the school committee board. The data analysis technique uses the Miles Huberman model, namely reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that the teacher and student communication process that is carried out in the online system was manifested into four elements, namely the teachers as communicator convey messages to the students in the form of instructions for filling attendances at the beginning of meeting, delivering material and opening discussion session as well as giving daily assignments through various online learning applications such as Google Classroom, Zoom and WhatsApp Group which result in the effect of students being active and not participating in the online learning process. The barriers experienced by teachers and students are technical barriers in in the form of signal disturbances and economic limitations of students’ families to buy data packages, pay tuition and do not have gadgets, communication barriers namely students’ misunderstanding in understanding messages, lack of students understanding of the materials and not conducive learning atmosphere and psychological barriers are disturbances caused by pressures from within students such as shyness in asking questions, not concentrating and being disciplined and taking lessons for granted. The efforts made by the teacher in overcoming these obstacles by evaluating and paying attention to the situation and learning environment  in the form of giving daily assignments as an exercise, taking a long time in collecting assignments, giving praise such as applause and additional activity points as a form of appreciation and teaching how to respect others and implementing two learning systems, namely online and offline to optimize teaching and learning activities in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the application of therapeutic communication therapists in increasing social interaction of children with autism in SLB Negeri Autis Medan. The research method used is a case study method with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 3 (three) therapists at SLB Negeri Autis Medan and 2 (two) triangulation informants, they are parents of autistic children who school in SLB Negeri Autis Medan and one as  psychologist. Data collection techniques using in-depth interviews and the theory used as a reference in this research is the theory of relationship building in therapeutic communication which is derived from interpersonal communication theories. The research findings after the data is saturated and fulfiiled show that the application of therapeutic communication therapy in increasing social interaction of children with autism is by using the ABA method and through the stages of assessment, observation, self-introduction and environment and classical class. The findings also indicate that there are supporting factors as well as inhibiting factors for the application of therapeutic communication therapy, namely acceptance and parental participation, therapeutic methods, therapeutic media, the ability of therapists, the severity of children with autism and dietary food. The researcher concluded that the application of therapeutic communication therapy in increasing the social interaction of children with autism in SLB Negeri Autis Medan using the ABA method and through four (4) stages was appropriate in increasing social interaction and communication of children with autism in the school environment.
