Abstract

Invasive alien plant species are a threat to Indonesia's biodiversity. These plants can change ecosystems by dominating landscapes. Given the magnitude of the impact that can be caused by plant invasions in conservation areas, it is necessary to carry out an inventory of potentially invasive plant species in Way Kambas National Park (TNWK), so that the negative impacts of these invasions can be easily prevented. . The inventory was carried out by plotting vegetation analysis on four types of vegetation in TNWK, namely forest vegetation, mixed forest vegetation, swamp vegetation, and alang-alang vegetation. Based on the results of the vegetation analysis, 11 species of plants that have the potential to be invasive in TNWK were found, namely Actinoscirpus grossus, Clidemia hirta, Chromolaena odorata, Fimbristylis ovata, Hyptis capitata, Imperata cylindrica, Isachne globosa, Lantana camara, Melaleuca leucadendron, Melastoma malabathricum, dan Mimosa pigra.

Abstract

This study investigates the antioxidant potential and protein content of the blood clam (Tegillarca granosa L.), a marine species rich in bioactive compounds that could serve as a functional food source. Antioxidants play a crucial role in combating free radicals, which are linked to various degenerative diseases. This research aims to quantify the protein content and evaluate the antioxidant activity of blood clam extracts to assess their potential for functional food applications. The study utilized the Lowry method to measure protein content and the DPPH assay to assess antioxidant activity. Blood clam samples were collected from the coastal region of Pangkep, South Sulawesi. Protein levels were determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while antioxidant activity was quantified by IC50 values. Results indicate that blood clams contain 21.75% protein, with an IC50 antioxidant value of 17.935 0.360 g/mL, which, while lower than ascorbic acid (IC50 = 2.34 g/mL), demonstrates substantial antioxidant activity. This studys unique contribution to the functional food field lies in identifying blood clams as a promising source of both protein and antioxidants, with potential health benefits related to oxidative stress prevention. The practical implications highlight blood clam's suitability as a natural functional food ingredient aimed at supporting overall health.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of mobile phone use on students' interest in learning, distinguishing between educational and recreational uses of mobile devices. A total of 300 students participated, with data collected through surveys assessing their mobile phone usage patterns and interest in various academic subjects. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, multiple regression, and ANOVA analyses were employed to examine the relationship between mobile phone use and students' academic engagement. The results revealed a positive correlation between educational mobile phone use and increased interest in learning, particularly in subjects such as mathematics and science. In contrast, recreational use of mobile phones was negatively associated with students' interest in academic subjects, highlighting the potential distractions posed by non-educational mobile activities. Age was found to positively influence interest in learning, while gender did not significantly affect the outcomes. The study contributes to the literature by addressing gaps in understanding the differentiated impacts of mobile phone use, providing practical insights for educators and policymakers on how to effectively integrate mobile technology into educational settings while mitigating potential distractions. The findings suggest that mobile phones, when used for educational purposes, can enhance students' academic motivation, but their recreational use should be managed to prevent disengagement from learning.

Abstract

Beligo (Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn.), is empirically used by the people of South Sulawesi-Indonesia as an aphrodisiac. Beligo seeds contain alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, and unsaturated fatty acids, which have the potential to act as aphrodisiacs. The primary objective of this research is to determine the aphrodisiac activity of an ethanol extract from beligo seeds in mice.  The procedure entails extraction and aphrodisiac evaluation using introduction, climbing, and coitus test parameters. Aphrodisiac testing was carried out for seven days using 25 mice as experimental animals, divided into five groups. Each group consists of four males and one female. Group I was given Sod. CMC 1% as a negative control; II, III, and IV were given ethanol extracts of beligo seeds at doses of 350mg/kg, 700mg/kg, 1400mg/kg BW, and group V, as a positive control, was given Yohimbine. The results showed that the ethanol extract of beligo seeds at doses of 350mg/kg BW, 700mg/kg BW, and 1400mg/kg BW had aphrodisiac activity (p=0.0001) compared to Sod. CMC 1% based on data on the amount of introduction and climbing. However, based on data on the number of coitus, it showed that the ethanol extract of beligo seeds at doses of 350mg/kg BW (p=0.072) had no aphrodisiac activity, 700mg/kg BW (p=0.007), 1400mg/kg BW (p=0.0001) had aphrodisiac activity compared to Na-CMC 1% and only a dose of 1400 mg/kg BW had the same aphrodisiac activity compared with Yohimbine (p=0.967). It is concluded that the ethanol extract of beligo seeds had aphrodisiac activity.

Abstract

This article discusses the analysis of news content about conditions after the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections. Researchers will analyze six news reported by Tempo.co online media between February 15 and 18, 2024. The news is analyzed to find out how journalism works and construct reality carried out by Tempo.co. The media, which is business-under the auspices of the Tempo Media Group company, has been known to be independent and critical. This research uses Holsti Theory or (Holsti Theory) to analyze the content of Tempo.co news with descriptive analysis methods. The subject of this study is Tempo.co as a source of information researchers get data. The object of research is six post-2024 Presidential Election news on the Tempo.co page of the February 15-18, 2024 edition. Supporting sources for this research are books and other research journals that can explain the information needed by researchers. The results showed that Tempo.co reported the dynamics of the 2024 Presidential Election within the framework of critical, analytical, and independent journalism, but still prioritized the principle of balancing or covering both sides, verified, and factual (based on facts). Tempo.co presents news about the presidential election without having a tendency of interest and only presents facts with the selection of competent sources. This is evidenced by the variation of post-Presidential Election news without cornering any of the three existing Presidential Candidate-Vice President pairs.
