Abstract

Ale-ale are popular clams in the coastal area of Ketapang. The local community uses the clams as food, one of which is in the form of fermented products. In the fermentation process, the nutritional content of course will be different from fresh ale-ale because it has gone through the preservation process. One of the goals of processing it into fermented products is to increase the product's durability. Essential mineral contents (Fe, Mn, Zn) in fermented products is different and tends to decrease. Essential mineral testing used the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) method. The water content and ash content of fresh ale-ale were 63.1% and 15.8%, respectively. While the water content and ash content of the fermented ale-ale were 68.69% and 17.2%, respectively. The essential mineral contents of fresh ale-ale obtained Fe 23 mg/kg, Zn 1.70 mg/kg and Mn 0.138 mg/kg. In fermented ale-ale, the content of Fe is 9.76 mg/kg, Zn is 0.740 mg/kg and Mn is 0.387 mg/kg.

Abstract

Liquid smoke has been successful pabricated from mangrove Avicennia alba shell by pyrolysis method at a temperature of 400℃ for 3 hours. Liquid smoke was purified by adsorption using activated kaolinite as adsorbent.  The test results showed that activated kaolinite could bring down the rancidness to become odorless and the color of liquid smoke from dark chocolate to gray colour. The composition of the liquid smoke compound was determined by using the Gass Chromatography-Mass  Spectrophotometer (GC-MS) consists of 2-propanone (CAS) acetone 25.79% and furan, tetrahydro- of 10.37% and carbamic acid, monoammonium salt (CAS) ammonium carbamate of 58.46% . The LC50 value of pure liquid smoke ranging from 1000 ppm is an indication that it is not toxic and safe to use for food preservation.  Activity test against the inhibition of microbial growth in fish meatballs, showed that ability. The higher the concentration of liquid smoke, the better the inhibition of microbial growth. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the liquid smoke produced from mangrove Avicennia alba shell purified by the activated kaolinite is very promising as a foodstuffs preservative

Abstract

Cayenne pepper was known to treat swelling of tissue cells and is thought to have anti-inflammatory activity. The aim study is to examine the anti-inflammatory activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of cayenne pepper and identify the components of organic compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction. The stages of this research include preparation, extraction, partitioning, phytochemical tests, anti-inflammatory activity tests using Human Red Blood Cells (HRBC), and identifying the components of organic compounds they contain. Among the three fractions obtained at the extraction stage, the ethyl acetate fraction had the best activity as an anti-inflammatory at a concentration of 1000 mg/L of 57.77%. The fractionation of the ethyl acetate fraction was carried out using Vaccum Liquid Chromatography (VLC), and four combined fractions were obtained. One of the combined fractions, code EA-4-5, with a weight of 0.188 grams, was analyzed using GC-MS and FTIR. The two main compounds obtained from the GC-MS analysis were dodecanoic acid (25.79%) and (-)-Loliolide (12.86%). The results of the FTIR interpretation of the EA-4-5 fraction showed absorption at a wave number of 3234.62 cm-1 (stretching vibration of the -OH functional group), 3088.03 cm-1 and 3028.24 cm-1 (stretching vibration of the functional group =CH), 2931.8 cm-1 and 2858.51 cm-1 (functional group strain vibration –CH), 1712.79 cm-1 (functional group strain vibration –C=O), and 1606.7 cm-1 (strain vibration functional group –C=C).

Abstract

Sargassum belongs to Phaeophyceae is widely distributed in Indonesian waters, including Kabung Island. Seaweed has bioactive compounds that potential to be developed. In the health sector, one of the global problems that still increasing is the bacterial infection. This condition leads us to explore antibiotic from natural resources to overcome this problem. Sargassum grow abundantly in the waters of Kabung Island and this genus has not been utilized by local community. For this reason, the aim of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity from ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island, West Kalimantan. Antibacterial activity test of the ethyl acetate extract against E. coli and S. aureus was conducted using the diffusion method with concentration series of 100; 50; 25; 5; 1; and 0.1 g/mL. While, the assessment of cytotoxic activity was carried out with concentration of 10; 100 and 1000 g/mL. The result showed that ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island only showed antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria. The greatest inhibition zone was 11.59 mm at a concentration of 100 g/mL, while in the cytotoxic test exhibited that the LC50 was more than 1000 ppm, so it was considered into non-toxic category.

TiO2-rGO synthesis was carried out with TiO2 precursor and rGO that was synthesized from a graphite rod using a hydrothermal method. Photocatalysts TiO2-rGO were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier- transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Diffuse Reflectance UV-VIS (DRUV). Synthesis of rGO by the electrochemical method using reducing agent Aluminum. The activity test was carried out using methylene blue with the help of visible light. Based on the calculated data, the band gap value of TiO2 is 3.30 eV, and TiO2-rGO is 3.00 eV, equivalent to a wavelength of 378 nm and 410 nm. These data indicate that the rGO material reduces the band gap but the low band gap decrease. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 under visible light irradiation increased after being composited with rGO to form a TiO2-rGO composite capable of degrading MB up to 67.05%Keywords: Photocatalyst, rGO, TiO2-rGO, electrochemistry, methylene Blue
