Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L) is a versatile plant that can be used as a food source, animal feed and industrial raw materials. The main problems of sorghum development in Adonara District, especially in Sago Village, are the low comparative and competitive advantage value of sorghum, post-harvest handling is still difficult, and sorghum farming at the farmer level has not been intensified. This study aims to determine the response of farmer group members to the development of sorghum plants. The method used in this study is a survey method with a quantitative approach. The sample used was a saturated sample of 30 people, and the data analysis used a Likert scale and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the response as motivation (X1) with an average score of 4.23, the response as perception with an average score of 4.06, the response as a behavior with an average score of 4.13 and the development of sorghum (Y) with an average score of 4.72. The F test counted 19,415 and T test count 10,715 With this, it can be concluded that the response as motivation, perception and behavior of farmers has a significant influence on the development of sorghum

Abstract

Production efficiency in lowland rice farming can be improved through enhancements in farmers’ managerial capabilities. These capabilities originate from the farmers themselves and are influenced by socio-economic factors. This study aims to determine the level of production efficiency of lowland rice farming in the Beranga Indah Farmer Group, Magepanda Village. The research method used is a survey method with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique applied was a saturated sample, involving 19 respondents. Data analysis employed the Cobb-Douglas production function and efficiency testing. The results of the study indicate that the factor that significantly (statistically) affects lowland rice production in the Beranga Indah Farmer Group is labor, with a significance level of 0.009. Meanwhile, the factors that do not have a significant effect are land area (0.278), seeds (0.183), pesticides (0.371), and fertilizer (0.286). The use of inputs such as land area, labor, seeds, pesticides, and fertilizer has not yet been technically, allocatively, or economically efficient, as the efficiency values of land area, seeds, pesticides, and fertilizer are greater than one; therefore, they are considered inefficient.

Abstract

Tomatoes are one of the horticultural commodities that have high economic value and are widely cultivated by farmers due to their considerable market demand. However, tomatoes are highly perishable and their market prices often fluctuate, which can affect farmers’ income levels. Therefore, a farm feasibility analysis is needed to determine whether tomato farming activities can provide economic benefits. This study aims to determine the feasibility of tomato farming at Moeda Tani Farm, Alok District, Sikka Regency. The research was conducted from February to March 2023. The method used in this study was a quantitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data sources consisted of primary data obtained directly from respondents, namely the manager and employees of Moeda Tani Farm, and secondary data obtained from related institutions. The data analysis used included analysis of production costs, revenue, income, and business feasibility analysis using the Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C). The results of the study show that the total production cost of tomato farming is IDR 24,780,000 per planting season, consisting of fixed costs and variable costs. The total revenue obtained is IDR 36,000,000, resulting in an income of IDR 11,220,000. The R/C ratio obtained is 1.45 or greater than one. This indicates that tomato farming at Moeda Tani Farm is feasible to operate and provides economic benefits, thus having the potential to be further developed.

Abstract

Hybrid corn (Zea mays L.) is one of the important food commodities that has a strategic role in supporting food security and increasing farmers’ income. In Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, corn is widely cultivated by farmers. However, the productivity of corn farming still faces various constraints, such as limited use of production inputs, suboptimal cultivation technology, and low efficiency in farm management. This study aims to determine the level of income and the economic feasibility of hybrid corn farming in the Jirojaro Farmer Group in Blatatatin Village, Kangae District, Sikka Regency. This research was conducted in July 2024 using a purposive method to determine the research location. The respondents consisted of 30 farmers who were all members of the Jirojaro Farmer Group, selected using a saturated sampling method. The data used consisted of primary data obtained through interviews using questionnaires and field observations, as well as secondary data obtained from various literature sources and related institutions. Data analysis included cost analysis, revenue analysis, farm income analysis, business feasibility analysis using the R/C ratio, and Break Even Point (BEP) analysis. The results showed that the average total production cost was IDR 2,228,466.3 per planting season, with an average revenue of IDR 6,504,000. The average income earned by farmers was IDR 4,275,533.7 per planting season. The R/C ratio value of 2.91 (>1) indicates that hybrid corn farming is feasible and profitable to operate.
