Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the significance of the input hypothesis in enhancing the listening comprehension abilities of EFL/ESL learners. The methodology employed in this study is a critical literature review. This entailed a comprehensive search for relevant articles and other sources, a meticulous reading of the material, the categorization of data, a thorough analysis, and the synthesis of findings. The findings of this study indicate that the input hypothesis plays an essential role in developing ESL/EFL learners' listening comprehension abilities through the acquisition of comprehensible inputs. The activation of linguistic background knowledge enables EFL/ESL learners to develop pronunciation skills, understanding of grammatical accuracy, lexical resources, and meaning. Optimizing the inputs of the listening strategy (cognitive, metacognitive, socio-affective) assists EFL/ESL learners in activating their memory about listening materials. This is achieved through making inferences, elaborations, summaries, translations, observations, assessments, and becoming involved in the community. Inputs from media, audio (visual), and practices can develop EFL/ESL learners' cognition, motivation, stimulating perception, activating prior knowledge. In conclusion, the components of the comprehensible inputs must be integrated and developed in a coordinated manner during the teaching and learning process of listening skills.

Abstract

A community service program (PKM) aims to improve children's mastery of English vocabulary related to the culinary world at the Naungan Kasih Ende Orphanage. The program was implemented through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The preparation stage includes Observation, Coordination with the orphanage, Preparation of training materials, and Preparation of learning media. The implementation stage, a hands-on learning experience, involves giving a pre-test, introducing and explaining basic culinary English vocabulary, having game sessions, doing writing and speaking practice activities, and practising cooking. The evaluation stage includes a post-test, evaluation of program effectiveness, collection of feedback, and preparation of reports. Through this PKM program, it is hoped that the orphanage children can improve their mastery of English vocabulary in the culinary field, which can help them learn, prepare to enter the world of work in the culinary industry and motivate them to continue developing their culinary-related English skills.

Abstract

The issue of the limited English curriculum that introduces local culture affects students' understanding of regional cultural wealth. This study aims to develop and analyze the quality of curriculum development products, namely the syllabus and English lesson design based on Ngada local culture. This study employs the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of an English teacher as content expert, high school and junior high school teachers as material experts, five elementary school teachers as product users, and two local cultural figures as local culture experts. Data were collected through expert testing, product user trials, and interviews with local cultural figures. The analysis results show that the English curriculum based on Ngada local culture is highly feasible to use. The content expert test obtained a score of 67.5 with an average of 4.45, which falls under the "very good" category. The product user trial conducted by five elementary school teachers showed a score of 29.2 with an average of 4.12, also in the very good category. Interviews with local cultural figures identified local cultural elements that could be incorporated into the curriculum, including megalithic stones, accessories, buildings, traditional dances, and language. Based on the trial results, it can be concluded that the syllabus and English lesson design based on Ngada local culture are feasible for implementation in elementary schools.

The data collected is analyzed using Percentage Descriptive Statistics analysis.Based on the results of data analysis and discussion to prove the research findings; (1) Teachers' perceptions of the independent curriculum as a whole, teachers have very good positive perceptions of the Independent Learning Curriculum. Analysis of questionnaire data distributed to 24 teachers shows a very high level of acceptance of the Independent Learning Curriculum, namely 96%, (2) Interview results to find out how the curriculum is implemented at Hanura Danga Private Middle School, the interview results confirm these findings, with the majority of teachers providing positive feedback on the implementation of the curriculum at Hanura Danga Private Middle School. Abstract

This community service aims to increase the knowledge and competence of high school teachers in one of the 3T areas in compiling classroom action research (CAR) reports. This service method used training with stages, namely assistance in making proposals, choosing the right model in implementing classroom action research and designing learning activities and tools. These service partners were junior and senior high school teachers in Nangapanda Ende District, NTT. The instrument for evaluating this activity used a pretest, and the posttest was analyzed descriptively. This service showed that the teachers' insight increased in preparing class action research reports, and they better understood the stages in the CAR implementation process. These namely teachers were able to understand knowledge about CAR from the four indicators that were the focus of this training, including the steps for implementing CAR, the systematics of writing/composing CAR, success indicators, data analysis, and CAR implementation instruments. Implementing this training activity provides a good understanding of teachers' understanding and professional competence regarding the importance of carrying out CAR.

Abstract

Contextual teaching and learning (CTL) become learning that can empower pupils' cognitive learning achievement. The research objective was to enhance pupils' cognitive learning achievement (CLA) using the CTL approach. The classroom action research by Kemmis and McTaggart was used in this research. The subjects of this study were pupils of grade IV SDK Doreng, Doreng District, Sikka Regency. Participant research was ten pupils' (three boys, seven girls). Ten multiple-choice tests were used for the evaluation of each cycle. Analysis of data was quantitatively and percentage—five categories for student CLA. The success indicator is based on a score of 65 and classical completeness of 85%. The results showed that the activity of pupils and teachers in the first cycle was low. This finding was followed by not achieving completeness, where only 70% of pupils completed. The second cycle findings inform that pupils' and teacher activities were excellent, followed by classical completeness, reaching 100%. This action research concludes that CTL can improve pupils' CLA. This research recommends using CTL in the future to enhance pupils' CLA.

Abstract

Using technology as a medium in the learning process is very beneficial for teachers, lecturers, and students. Quizizz is a web tool that can be used to conduct interactive quizzes for learning. Quizizz, in this study, is used as an online evaluation medium for learning English. However, every learning medium has advantages and disadvantages, including Quizizz. This research aims to determine students' perceptions of Quizizz as an online evaluation medium for English language learning. The mixed method is the method of this study, with the instruments being observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The research subjects were twenty students of economics education. The results obtained from the questionnaire showed that the use of Quizizz in online evaluation received positive responses from students. This response is shown by the ten questionnaire items getting a high percentage for each positive statement. Likewise, from the in-depth interviews, the data obtained also received positive and varied responses. From the results of this research, it was concluded that online evaluation using Quizizz media was very well received by students and could be used in the future by considering input and suggestions from students regarding this medium. In addition, other subjects can use this medium as a learning evaluation medium.
