Abstract

Background: Stress is a condition of anxiety or mental strain brought on by challenging circumstances and motivates us to face obstacles and dangers in life. Stress often experienced by adolescents, with a reported high prevalence of depression among teenagers. Each person uses different stress coping techniques, some of which are beneficial and others of which are detrimental. Smoking is one of the negative stress coping strategies that some people turn to in the hopes of finding mental calm. However, smoking behavior is dangerous for both active and passive smokers, who may experience a range of illnesses, including cancer, lung disease, impotence, reproductive abnormalities, stroke, and possibly fatal pregnancy issues for the fetus. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between stress levels and smoking motivation among adolescents. Method: This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach by involving 80 subjects of adolescents. The research instrument used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity. Analysis of this research data used the Spearman Rho test. Results: It was discovered that 38 subject (47.5%) had low level of stress, 26 subject (32.5%) had moderate levels of stress, 9 (11,25%) had high levels of stress, 7 (8,75%) had very high levels of stress. Smoking motivation was discovered that 59 subject (73.75%) had moderate smoking motivation, 31 subject (38.75%) had high smoking motivation. Conclusion: There is a relation between stress levels and smoking motivation among adolescents with a significance value of 0.00 (p<0.05).

Abstract

The occurrence of chronic diseases is a predominant challenge in global public health. Chronic diseases have a high incidence; according to the 2021 study conducted by the Global Burden of Disease, chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are included in the top five death risks in the world and are responsible for approximately 20% of global deaths. SBAR communication technique is the prioritized indicator for effective communication quality in patient safety goal (IPSG 2). Patient safety highly depends on the medical team’s action in decreasing unwanted incidence, which can be prevented by increasing effective communication through socializing SBAR communication. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of implementing SBAR communication in interprofessional collaboration (IPC) between doctors and nurses on patient safety. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The respondents were 35 nurses and 35 doctor specialists according to the inclusion criteria with purposive sampling. The research instruments were SBAR communication questionnaires, with a validity value of CVI=0.87 and a reliability value of Cronbach’s Alpha=0.62. Data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Test. The results showed a significant difference in pre-post SBAR implementation scores between doctors and nurses (p=0.04; p<0.05). The research results showed that the Mean Rank was 18.00 for both doctor specialists and nurses, indicating that socializing SBAR communication could significantly change the mean rank value.

Abstract

Weaknesses in applying therapeutic communication are still a problem for nurses. This affects the quality of nursing services that have an impact on patient satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to identify to evaluate the effectiveness of nurse therapeutic communication in enhancing patient cooperation during treatment. This research method was an analytical survey method that used a cross-sectional approach. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 127 inpatients at Slamet Riyadi Hospital, Surakarta, in March 2024. Data were collected using three instruments: demographic questionnaire, therapeutic communication questionnaire (13 items; Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.824), and patient cooperation questionnaire (20 items; Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.80). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression. The results from this research most respondents reported consistent therapeutic communication (54.3%) and high cooperation (52.8%). A significant positive correlation was found between therapeutic communication and patient cooperation (p < 0.001; r = 0.552) showing that communication explained 41.5% of cooperation variance. Nurse therapeutic communication significantly improves patient cooperation. Enhancing nurses’ communication skills—empathy, respect, and active listening—supports patient-centered care and better health outcomes.

Abstract

Aging is a natural biological process characterized by deterioration of physical, psychological, and social functions. These changes often cause stress in the elderly, which can negatively impact diet, appetite, and nutritional status. Poor nutritional status can trigger malnutrition, decreased immunity, degenerative diseases, and poor quality of life. This research aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and nutritional status in the elderly at the Baki Sukoharjo Community Health Center. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 64 respondents was selected using purposive sampling. Research instruments include the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to assess stress levels and the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF) to evaluate nutritional status. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that most respondents experienced mild stress, as many as 56 people (87.5%), while a small number experienced severe stress. The nutritional status of most respondents was at risk of malnutrition, namely 28 people (43.8%). The Chi-Square test results showed a significant relationship between stress levels and nutritional status in the elderly (p = 0.003). The results confirmed that high stress levels increase the risk of nutritional disorders, especially malnutrition. Therefore, effective stress management and education about balanced nutrition through health programs, family support, and community activities are needed to improve the quality of life of the elderly.
