Abstract

This study focuses on prisoners’ family resilience in the village of Tambakrejo, Semarang. Ideally, family resilience is achieved when the rights and obligations of the household are fulfilled. It is though difficult for prisoner’s families to reach such an ideal condition due to the absence of husbands/fathers. The absence of these important figures results in family vulnerability. By using the qualitative approach, this research explores the condition of seven prisoners’ families in Tambakrejo village, Semarang city. The results of this study indicate that the families of prisoners in Tambakrejo village seem to be resilient.  The prisoner’s families in Tambakrejo are resilient because of some factors.  First, there are strong commitment from both husbands and wives.  Second, the presence of the child encourages the marriage couples to hold firmly on their marriage commitment, and third, each party tries to always think positively about their respective partners. However, there are also inhibiting factors affecting families’ resilience, including family financial issues, communication problems, and social sanctions. Based on those indicators, the families of prisoners in Tambakrejo can be categorized as having a low level of family resilience. However, the integrity of prisoners’ families in Tambakrejo Semarang can be maintained with commitment and persistence in keeping the purpose of their marriage.

Abstract

Abstract: Female Indonesian migrant domestic workers (DMWs) often get a negative predicate both in Indonesia and in destination countries. For example, DMWs in Singapore are treated unequally by Singaporean society, in Indonesia, as well, their work is seen as a lowly job. They can be categorized as a marginal group. Marginals are marginalized people whose rights are ruled out by people that have power. Hence, they find it difficult to adapt to their environment and they are always suppressed. The circumstances lead to the feeling of alienation for DMWs. The alienation they have experienced is often ignored as a reality of the life of migrant workers. This study takes the object of poetry by Female Indonesian DMWs in Singapore. It explores how marginalization and alienation are expressed in literary work by female domestic migrant workers. This study, also analyzes how the expression of literary work can be functioned as a medium to voice alienation and to overcome its problem. This research used textual analysis, including the application of semiotics and narratology to see the marginalization and alienation faced by the migrant workers which are represented through a literary work. As complementary data, virtual interviews with the author of poetry was conducted.

Abstract

The spread of the Covid-19 virus requires human interaction to be mediated by information and communication technology, including education. Educators must adapt to this change to become role models quickly. However, not all educators can use technology in online learning. For educators in the village who had never used information and communication technology for education, this adaptation process needed guidance in the acceleration, as a necessity of educators with ICT mastery capabilities in the information age and amid the pandemic situation. It takes a mentoring program for educators to improve their ability and competence on digital technology for learning management both luring and online. This program is intended for educators in MI Al-Hikmah Source of Simo Boyolali through a participatory approach. The training began by doing a pretest and continued FGD to map the potential and problems faced by the teacher. Based on the pretest and FGD,  we decided to conduct digital literacy training to improve educator competencies in managing online learning and luring. Abstract

This study aims to examine religious literacy practices of traditional Islamic boarding school known as Pesantren in addressing the social-religious polarization issue in Indonesia. This study employs phenomenology method with a sociology of religion approach emphasizing the religious literacy outlook. Religious literacy entails a comprehensive approach to understanding the various concept of religiosity in a plural society and adds to it the ability to critically reflect on the fundamental intersections of religion and social, political, and cultural life through multiple lenses (Moore, 2007). Data is collected through library research, field observations, structured interviews involving pesantren’s leaders, teachers and students in Pesantren Al-Muayyad, Windan, Surakarta. Discussion result shows that: 1) through a dynamic power and network mobilization, Kyai plays the role of a strategic religious actor who translates religious pluralism to the public — facilitating pesantren as community development center where authentic and meaningful socio-religious interactions among students takes place; and 2) to build a resilient faith community member, Al-Muayyad Windan designed three integrative stages of religious literacy enhancement i.e., religious literacy at the personal level, religious literacy at the intrareligious level, and religious literacy at the interreligious level.

Abstract

The expansion of Islamic territories during the time of Umar ibn Khattab led to increasingly complex problems, especially in the economic field. During this period, Umar ibn Khattab introduced remarkable, though sometimes controversial, policies. These policies and ideas were extensively studied by scholars during the Abbasid Caliphate and became the foundation for the development of Islamic economic thought. This article reveals several areas where the study of Islamic economics made significant progress. It is based on a literature review using primary sources such as the books of Ali Muhammad As-Shalabi and Jaribah bin Ahmad Al-Haritsi, utilizing a historical approach. The research results show a strong scholarly tradition, accompanied by the documentation of many accounts from Umar ibn Khattab, especially in the domains of kharaj, ‘usyr, jizyah, and the institution of al-hisbah. This demonstrates that Umar ibn Khattab laid the intellectual foundations in the fields of economics and Islamic jurisprudence. During that time, scholarly studies on economics continued to develop. The books discussed by scholars of that era covered various aspects of Islamic economic thought, all of which were closely related to the government

Abstract

In Indonesia’s political landscape, there is a current tension between identity politics and populist ideologies. Identity politics is a broad term used to describe political movements and actions related to religious identities and institutions, particularly in an Islamic setting. However, it raises concern about how we will investigate identity politics as part of a contextual, constituent-based approach to politics. The current study investigates Syafii Maarif’s political views. By employing a social hermeneutic approach and interpretive methodologies, this thought is elaborated in this study. The investigation reveals three primary elements of identity politics based on Maarif’s analysis: 1) ethnicity, 2) religion, and 3) political ideology. According to Maarif, any political activity that has these three characteristics is intrinsically saturated with identity politics. As a result, Muslim politics are often limited and narrowly defined. To address this constraint, the findings of this study advocate the actualization of the notion of identity politics to make space for populist politics. While religion, ethnicity, and political ideology coexist, a populist approach is still relevant in Islamic politics, persuasion methods, and specific constituency-based political connections.

Abstract

Based on the Digital Civility Index (DCI), Indonesian internet users are ranked at the lowest position within Southeast Asia in terms of their Digital Civility Index. This observable trend is closely associated with the proliferation of fake information, hate speech, cyberbullying, discriminatory behavior, and instances of fraud. Additionally, the process of modernization has significantly increased the consumptive tendencies within people's lifestyles. It is essential to note that Indonesia, with the world's largest Muslim population, is deeply rooted in religious beliefs. The country is ready to face the coming era of what is known as the era of society 5.0. Therefore, this study analyzed the public perception among urban dwellers in Semarang, focusing on the role of religious education as an aspect of curriculum development in the era of Society 5.0. In this context, the qualitative analysis was conducted using a method of phenomenology to obtain data through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that contextualization of the Islamic religious education curriculum was needed to suit the needs of society. Islamic religious education taught students the physical (shari'a) and the spiritual dimensions (essential) to improve spirituality for urban Muslim communities as a basis for values in everyday behavior. In this context, the education instilled the importance of monotheism and ethics in using technology. Even though the era of Society 5.0 placed humans at the center (anthropocentric), the concept of Islamic religious education instilled the notion of God remaining at the centre (theocentric).

Abstract

The northern coastal area of Demak, particularly Timbulsloko Hamlet, faces a severe clean water crisis due to tidal flooding, seawater intrusion, and land subsidence. Conventional rainwater harvesting (RWH) efforts initiated by local residents have been unable to sustainably meet household needs because of limited capacity and the absence of adequate filtration systems. This community service program aims to develop an IoT-based Smart Rainwater Harvesting (Smart-RWH) system as an adaptive, affordable, and community-driven solution. The implementation methods included community outreach, training on RWH management and maintenance, installation of a Smart-RWH system equipped with water quality sensors, and trial use of a simple Android-based monitoring application. The results indicate the successful installation of a 6,000-litre Smart-RWH unit with pH and volume sensors, the development of an operational manual, and improved community capacity in managing clean water using technology. The implications extend beyond increased access to safe water, as the program also strengthens socio-ecological resilience through local institutional empowerment and collective action. The Smart-RWH model offers significant potential for replication in other coastal areas facing similar challenges.
