Abstract

Universities in Indonesia are now actively and ambitiously opening up internationalization opportunities for foreign students to have the opportunity to continue their higher education in Indonesia. This is also done by Sebelas Maret University, marked by the presence of Nigerian students in the Bachelor's program. The arrival of foreign students requires adaptation. This study uses a phenomenological approach to explore the in-depth experiences of Nigerian students in navigating the challenges and barriers of intercultural communication in the campus environment. This study focuses on the theory of accommodation strategies presented by Morrisan & Corry (2009), consisting of three options, namely: convergence, divergence, and excessive accommodation which are part of their adaptation. Using qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation. The subjects of the study were Nigerian students who had gone through a critical period, namely at least in the fifth semester of the undergraduate education program or who had been students of Sebelas Maret University for two years. The results of the study showed that there was the use of convergence and divergence strategies. And all informants were at the accommodation stage in cultural adaptation.

Abstract

Film is one of the mass communication media that has three main roles and functions, namely as entertainment, education, and information that reaches the most social segments that can be enjoyed by anyone without age restrictions. Movies are also often a means of transmitting messages with implied meanings that communicators want to convey to the general public (Ardianto, 2007). However, the production of children's films in Indonesia is not as vibrant as the production of films with other segments. In 2018, the phenomenon of globalization has penetrated the level of children aged 5-10 years which has many negative impacts, one of which is the decline in moral values. Thus, Miles Films released the movie Kulari ke Pantai which aims to instill moral values in school-age children.Kulari ke Pantai depicts the reality that occurs in various layers of society, where moral values become a noble value that applies in Indonesia. One of the moral values that appear in Kulari ke Pantai is the moral value of honesty represented through non-verbal and verbal signs such as dialog, visual signs, property, cinematography, background music, body language of each character, and others. The method used in this research is Roland Barthes' semiotic qualitative analysis method through the three elements he put forward, namely denotation meaning (actual meaning), connotation (meaning back to denotation meaning that has an intrinsic message), and myth (connotation meaning of joining culture).

Abstract

In an effort to accelerate national financial inclusion, Bank Indonesia continues to promote innovation in digital payment systems, one of which is the launch of the QRIS Tap feature based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in March 2025. Despite offering convenience, speed, and efficiency, the adoption of QRIS Tap remains limited, necessitating effective communication strategies to achieve broader public acceptance. Social media has been chosen as the primary communication channel due to its ability to reach digital audiences in an interactive and participatory manner. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Bank Indonesia’s communication strategy in promoting QRIS Tap through its official social media accounts. Using a qualitative approach with a single case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and content documentation analysis of social media posts from March to June 2025. Data validity was ensured using triangulation techniques, and the analysis was conducted through an explanation-building approach. The findings indicate that the communication strategy focuses on the early stages of innovation diffusion, namely awareness, interest, and information seeking. The communication content selectively highlights innovation characteristics such as relative advantage, compatibility, and ease of use. However, aspects such as trialability and observability are still lacking due to infrastructure limitations and a scarcity of user experience-based content. Moreover, efforts to drive action and experience sharing remain minimal due to the gradual communication approach and the underutilization of testimonial-based content production. This study concludes that the implemented communication strategy aligns with the initial stages of innovation diffusion but needs to be strengthened in terms of calls to action and social validation to foster broader adoption.

Abstract

Over the past few decades, there has been a shift in the media industry, where conventional media such as newspapers and television have started to lose their popularity. This change has been accelerated by the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is now being used in journalism. The use of AI raises the question of how local journalists respond to this technology: do they see AI as a tool that supports their work, or do they feel threatened by its presence? Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory, this research seeks to explore local journalists' perceptions of AI tools in news processing. The research was conducted using a qualitative method using a case study approach, where data was obtained by conducting interviews with local journalists in Surakarta. The results found include first, AI tools improve journalists' work efficiency by speeding up typing, data search, editing, audio processing, and research, as well as monitoring online news trends. Second, although some AI tools are easy to use, mastering them still takes time and training, especially because AI sometimes makes work more difficult. Third, it is perceived that AI is not yet able to fully maintain the Journalistic Code of Ethics and press regulations need to be updated. However, it is perceived that AI will not violate ethics if humans are in full control.
