Abstract

Background: Discharge planning is crucial in hospitals to ensure continuous patient care, thereby preventing re-admissions or complications. However, its implementation still requires improvement due to various obstacles and variances in nurses’ perceptions. Objective: This research aims to explore nurses’ perceptions regarding the implementation of discharge planning. Methods: This study is a descriptive qualitative research involving 14 participants selected through purposive random sampling. Data was collected from April to June 2023 through in-depth interviews, with notes taken and recordings made for transcription. Data analysis was conducted using the Colaizzi method. Results: Participants exhibited a good understanding of discharge planning, yet disparities emerged in their perceptions regarding ten key themes: knowledge, goals, and benefits; organizational aspects in implementation management; activity mechanisms; methods and media employed; implementation steps/flow; implementation content; particularly notable was the theme of implementation timing; evaluation processes in implementation; availability of specialized formats and documentation procedures/format completion; and encountered implementation categories and room-related obstacles. These themes emerged as significant areas needing attention based on the research findings. Conclusion: Nurses’ perceptions regarding the implementation of discharge planning have not been optimized due to constraints imposed by hospital management policies and room management, differences in nurses’ perceptions and attitudes towards implementation, and factors related to patients and their families.

Abstract

Violence against nurses remains a significant challenge affecting their physical safety, psychological well-being, and professional performance. This study explored the factors contributing to violent behavior against nurses, their diverse impacts, and effective prevention strategies. A qualitative design was used to collect data from thirteen participants through interviews and to analyze them thematically. The study findings revealed that internal factors such as high workload, ineffective communication, and staff attitudes, alongside external factors including patient and family expectations, emotional states, and socio-cultural influences, contributed to violent incidents. The impacts identified included physical injury, psychological trauma, decreased motivation, and compromised quality of care. Participants highlighted prevention strategies involving positive nurse attitudes, patient and family education, effective communication, precise reporting mechanisms, institutional support, psychosocial support, and use of digital technology. The study concluded that addressing violent behavior against nurses requires a comprehensive and multidimensional approach that integrates personal, organizational, and technological interventions. It is recommended that nursing practice prioritize therapeutic communication and empathy, supported by strong policies and psychosocial resources to improve nurse safety and quality of care.

Abstract

Interactive technology-based learning is an innovative strategy to enhance nursing students' understanding, particularly on multidisciplinary topics such as wetland ecosystems. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using Mentimeter as an interactive learning tool in improving nursing students' knowledge of the benefits and social determinants of wetland ecosystems. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest design without a control group. The participants were 72 seventh-semester nursing students enrolled in the Wetland Ecosystem course. The intervention was conducted through offline learning sessions that utilized Mentimeter for quizzes, polls, and discussions focused on the benefits and social determinants of wetlands. The results showed an increase in students knowledge following the intervention. The pretest results indicated that 65% of students were in the “good” knowledge category, which increased to 87% in the posttest. The “sufficient” category decreased from 25% to 10%, and the “poor” category dropped from 10% to 4%. Overall, there was a 22% improvement in knowledge, with the majority of students reaching the “good” category. Student responses to the use of Mentimeter reflected a high level of satisfaction. Most students reported that this method enhanced their active participation, increased learning motivation, and made it easier to understand the material through engaging approaches. In conclusion, interactive learning using Mentimeter has proven effective in increasing nursing students' knowledge of the benefits and social determinants related to wetland ecosystems.

Abstract

Abstract

The salted fish processing and sales business is the main source of income for the people of Sungai Batang Ilir Village. The limited knowledge of salted fish processors and sellers regarding occupational health and safety (K3), entrepreneurship and business management, and online marketing branding is a barrier to improving the welfare of the salted fish seller group. Furthermore, this village is a flood-prone area that impacts business continuity and public health. This community service activity aims to increase the capacity of the salted fish seller group through training on occupational health and safety (K3), entrepreneurship and business management training, branding and online marketing management training, as well as education on flood disaster mitigation and other health education. The implementation method includes interactive lectures, demonstrations, mentoring, and pre- and post-test evaluations. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge of 84% in K3 aspects, 80% in entrepreneurship, 80% in branding and online marketing, and 84% in flood disaster mitigation. In addition, participants were able to apply simple product branding and understand flood mitigation steps. This program is expected to become a model for community empowerment based on local potential with a multidimensional approach that integrates economic, health, and environmental aspects..
