Abstract

Abstract

This comparative quantitative study examined smartphone addiction rates among children using a modified Smartphone Addiction Questionnaire, focusing on differences between preschool and primary school students to inform prevention and health promotion strategies. For preschool participants, parents completed the questionnaire, whereas for primary school children, both parents and children provided responses. The assessment tool demonstrated robust psychometric properties, with validity established through rigorous evaluation and high internal consistency for both the children’s and parents’ scales, as indicated by Cronbach’s alpha coefficients. The study cohort comprised 832 participants, including 104 preschool-aged children, 336 parents of primary school-aged children, and 392 primary school students. The prevalence of smartphone addiction differed significantly across groups, with primary school students exhibiting higher rates than preschool-aged children (p < 0.05). This disparity was consistent across both parent- and child-reported measures. Nevertheless, 3.8% of preschool-aged children were classified as high risk for smartphone addiction, with an additional 1% at very high risk, necessitating parental vigilance. Among primary school students, the prevalence was higher, with 7.4%–9.8% at high risk and 0.8%–2.1% at very high risk

Abstract

Aspects of honesty and discipline are important parts of character that must be built. However, in schools, the value of honesty and discipline is still problematic and needs to be studied more deeply, especially in elementary schools. The purpose of the research is to look at and create a pattern of internalization of religious teachings that can be used as a consideration in instilling honesty and discipline in elementary schools. This internalization pattern includes the stages of instilling honesty and discipline in schools. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological method. Data collection techniques through interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and observations. Research shows that in the context of Religious Education, the cultivation of honesty and discipline is part of Religious Teachings, with the habit of students getting used to behaving better, such as saying greetings, worshipping on time, and imitating the commendable attitude of the Prophet. Students have implemented this aspect in their daily lives, especially in the school environment. This can be seen from the honesty of grades IV and V, which obtained good category results with a percentage of 68% and 72%. Meanwhile, discipline obtained good category results with the same percentage, as much as 68%.

Abstract

Students’ low self-directed learning is often attributed to insufficient external support, leading to poor academic habits and dependency on rewards. Such conditions may reduce knowledge retention and weaken both self-efficacy and learning motivation. Despite its importance, the interplay between internal factors like self-efficacy and learning motivation in fostering self-directed learning among elementary students remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between self-efficacy and motivation to learn through self-directed learning in upper-grade elementary students in Surakarta. Using a quantitative correlational approach, data were collected from 140 students through Proportional Random Sampling and analyzed using product moment and multiple correlation techniques. The findings show a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and self-directed learning (r = 0.556, p < 0.05), and between learning motivation and self-directed learning (r = 0.630, p < 0.05). Both variables together also significantly correlate with self-directed learning (R = 0.649, p < 0.05). This study empirically confirms the dual role of self-efficacy and motivation as predictors of self-directed learning among elementary students. The results highlight the importance of fostering internal factors to enhance learning independence, while encouraging further research into additional influences such as external support, time management, and learning strategies. Highlights: Self-efficacy and learning motivation have a significant positive correlation with students' independent learning. Correlation analysis shows that self-efficacy and learning motivation jointly contribute to increased learning independence (R = 0.649; p < 0.05). Independent learning is influenced by internal factors, particularly students’ confidence and intrinsic motivation. Keywords: Self-Efficacy, Learning Motivation, Self-Direct Learning

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model on mathematics learning to instill mathematical literacy in elementary school students. Quasi Experiment was chosen as the type of this research. The research population was the 5th-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 08 Cilacap, with the research sample consisting of two classes, namely 5A and 5B. The instruments used are test and non-test instruments. Hypothesis testing was carried out using the independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test. The average score on the pretest before the treatment was 59.7 in class 5A and 55.95 in class 5B. The average pretest score in class 5A was 66.6, and 62.15 in class 5B. The post-test average score was 77.7 in class 5A and 91.8 in class 5B. The study results show that the PBL model influences the mathematical literacy of elementary school students and increases students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

Children's education is the main responsibility of parents as the initial foundation for shaping children's character and intelligence. This study analyzes parents’ perceptions and preferences in selecting schools for elementary-age children. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method involving 112 parents of elementary school-aged children. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulation with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings indicate that parental decisions are influenced by their perceptions, which are shaped by factors such as educational background, personal experience, and income. In contrast, preferences tend toward factors like school facilities, safety, a conducive learning environment, technology integration, religious education, leadership, academic performance, and location. The characteristics of the respondents also affect their school selection behavior. These results help explain the declining interest in public schools in certain areas. This study contributes to a better understanding of how parental decision-making may inform educational stakeholders in developing policies and school programs that align with family expectations and student needs.

Abstract

This study investigates how learning through games and narrative affects Year 5 students' mathematical literacy and numeracy skills. The study's goal is to solve Indonesia's poor performance in international math literacy examinations by testing new teaching approaches. The study included three groups: one using games, one using narrative, and one combining the two modalities. Data were gathered through teacher interviews, observations, and validated numeracy literacy assessments. These results were examined utilizing quantitative quasi-experimental procedures, using pretest-posttest control groups. The findings show that games and storytelling greatly improve pupils' arithmetic literacy and numeracy when compared to traditional methods. The combined strategy yielded the best improvement, improving problem-solving and conceptual knowledge through interactive, contextualized learning, which increases motivation and critical thinking skills. The study concludes that incorporating games and storytelling effectively promotes mathematical comprehension, and teachers are encouraged to use these strategies to create more engaging and relevant math learning environments for primary school students, better preparing them for future academic challenges.
